too many guys are striking out when just putting the ball in play is needed

That was a pretty big moment in the game. Nothing.

Let us all join the Debbie Downer side, guys. It might be more fun this way. Maybe @canada-marlin24 is on to something, that crazy gal.

So who takes his place? Our pitching depth is pure garbage. And god forbid if conley, jose, chen or TK go down....

rotation depth !? if we sign Tim Lincecum of Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim.

Is Nicolino's fastball velocity already decreasing? 86 get-me-over to HARPER? Who, thankfully, decided he'd be merciful and take a strike?

For those joking about Edwin Jackson, he's actually better than Nicolino. So, yes, Edwin Jackson. Send Nicolino down, put Jackson in the rotation, and promote someone for the bullpen.

Urena is another option. His stuff is way better than Nicolino's.

Nicolino doesn't belong in the big leagues.

I concur Jackson > Nico

fucking Hech

fucking Nico.

Nice play, Nico.

nicolino turning it around, that's my boy. nice snag!

Nicolino is the perfect example of what Conley was talking about when he said the marlins FO/milb coaches only cared about results.

Nicolino is not a mlb pitcher right now. He needs one swing and miss pitch.  Just one. He should be in milb working on that specifically instead of nibbling at corners to keep his pristine AAA ERA

I don't see Nicolino having much left to learn in the minors. The pitcher he is, is the pitcher he is. He's able to go deep into games because he's efficient in terms of not wasting pitches (and sometimes that does backfire with so so stuff). He's now had two good starts, one so so start, and two bad starts (both being against a good Washington team). His FIP has always been high, even in the minors, because he lets bats hit the balls and is a fly ball pitcher with it.

Look, if you've already come into the mindset that you hate Nicolino than nothing he can do will ever change that. He could throw five straight 7 inning 2 or less ER starts and people hear would still hate him because historically his style of pitching has led to bad pitchers.

I just know what I saw in the minors. He'll have these kinds of starts. But he gets results most of the time. As he gains more starts he'll save our bullpen so many times because he can work 7 IP a lot. I'm not calling Nicolino the future #3 that people were hoping his ceiling can reach, but I still have a ton of faith in him as a #4 or 5. He pissed off everybody with how he got results all the way up through the minors. I'm still willing to wait and see if he can do it here. He's still just 24 years old.

Then a soft grounder, nice.

well he's got bryce's # at least

Well yay.

"Well, he got Bryce Harper out so he deserves to be up here.." - FO

and I am gonna shove the Nats mics up their asses if they keep replaying all those HRs

Take even a game like today. Terrible terrible inning. But I believe he'll settle down and at the very least still give us 6 IP. And he's capable of doing that because he doesn't work deep into counts and gets people to put the ball in play quickly, limiting his pitch count. It's effective many times and it leads to 4 run innings other times.

put look bit too late we losing by 4

the offense better get out of the funk quickly.

You're confusing me with Erick. I don't hate Nicolino. Read my other posts in this gameday thread. I've watched him pitch too. He nibbles and gets called strikes and chases in milb. The strike zone is notoriously smaller in milb which is why he's having such issues since his only swing and miss pitch (changeup) he never uses (do you know why he never uses it?).

The guy has a A LOT to learn in milb. Did you read what Conley said about our coaching down there? It's horrifying. They care about results only. A coach should be working with Nicolino on another pitch or refining his shitty ass curve ball, but they haven't because he's able to nibble down there and has a good ERA. I think he can be an okay #4, maybe, but he has a lot of work to do to get there. He'll never ever be successful with his bb/so rate

The good news is apparently Benedict is trying to fix the disaster that is our pitching development

Pra-D'oh!

Well then.

Prado was just kidding me !!
