June 9, 201610 yr That's why I just watch a few innings a game and then make generalizations based on my selective memory and biased view of the world. That's what you should do. Watching the game with a stack of spreadsheets and a calculator doesn't sound fun to me.
June 9, 201610 yr Stats are made up daily, there are so many that there's a stat to prove someone is awful and a stat to prove someone is great. Is there a separate Stat for Solano?
June 9, 201610 yr Is there a separate Stat for Solano? Just look up his YWiO, I think it shows he's an All-Star
June 9, 201610 yr Just look up his YWiO, I think it shows he's an All-Star Oh, the old You Would imagine Otherwise stat. How can I forget?
June 9, 201610 yr That's what you should do. Watching the game with a stack of spreadsheets and a calculator doesn't sound fun to me. A stack of spreadsheets, a calculator, throw in a rake and some lube and then we're talking.
June 9, 201610 yr Stats are made up daily, there are so many that there's a stat to prove someone is awful and a stat to prove someone is great. No joke I was just on baseball reference and saw a stat called "wWE: Winning Team's Win Expectancy. The probability of the eventual winning team winning the game at the end of this play given two average teams playing each other." @Vince0926this one's for you bro @squallsuck it.
June 9, 201610 yr Other stuff of note I just saw perusing baseball reference... did you all know that in our first game against the Dodgers in 93, Tim Wallach hit a homer off Charlie Hough and Lenny Harris was announced as a pinch hitter?
June 9, 201610 yr Other stuff of note I just saw perusing baseball reference... did you all know that in our first game against the Dodgers in 93, Tim Wallach hit a homer off Charlie Hough and Lenny Harris was announced as a pinch hitter? I mentioned this way back on Thursday, March 31st and nobody paid attention.
June 9, 201610 yr Stats are made up daily, there are so many that there's a stat to prove someone is awful and a stat to prove someone is great. Yeah, but my calculations on LIAD% are right on with confirmation.
June 9, 201610 yr Yeah, but my calculations on LIAD% are right on with confirmation. you enjoy doing your calculations while watching the game. I may be a dick but I don't see the need for it to be a math class when i tune into baseball.
June 9, 201610 yr you enjoy doing your calculations while watching the game. I may be a dick but I don't see the need for it to be a math class when i tune into baseball. Oh, I wasn't referring to the game. LIAD% is Admin is a Dingleberry percentage. I've got it right around 79%.
June 9, 201610 yr COL should be getting on baseball reference any day now. Definitely an advanced metric if I ever saw one.
June 9, 201610 yr MBRI - Marlins Baseball Retard Index Unfortunately it doesn't adjust for outliers like Vince. Gotta keep working on that stat. I'll do my best during tonight game with my graph paper and abacus. Don't forget the protractor, I want to know what Ozuna's PWI is when he hits the ball at a 35 degree angle
June 9, 201610 yr The unusual thing about this team is that statistically we have great hitting. But we can't score enough runs and always leave a lot of runners on base. What's odd is that at what point is that not just bad luck? The statheads don't believe that some players are just better than others in higher pressure situations although now I saw there's a "clutch" stat. However the point of offense in baseball is to score runs. So far we haven't been good at it.
June 9, 201610 yr now I saw there's a "clutch" stat. Like I said, there's a stat for everything and the statheads (I like that word too) often think they are smarter/better than those who don't use the new-age stuff. They'll laugh and mock you for referencing traditional stats.
June 9, 201610 yr COL should be getting on baseball reference any day now. Definitely an advanced metric if I ever saw one. for COL you only need two things. Observation and memory.
June 9, 201610 yr for COL you only need two things. Observation and memory. That's what makes it an advanced stat and not just a counting stat.
June 9, 201610 yr That's what makes it an advanced stat and not just a counting stat. Needs COL+ and COL- though, not advanced enough yet
June 9, 201610 yr Almost as if almost everything worth caring about in baseball is quantifiable. Suck it
June 9, 201610 yr Like I said, there's a stat for everything and the statheads (I like that word too) often think they are smarter/better than those who don't use the new-age stuff. They'll laugh and mock you for referencing traditional stats. I don't laugh and mock for anything except pitcher wins (thoroughly out of the pitcher's control. Can give up one run on one hit with 27 Ks and lose, or can give up 10 runs on 20 hits and 17 walks and win) and RBI (dependent on other guys being on base) Everything else has a use. Average isn't a GREAT stat, but it means something. ERA doesn't paint the whole picture, but it gives an idea of how a guy has done, etc.
June 9, 201610 yr Needs COL+ and COL- though, not advanced enough yet Fuckin' plebe. It's a rate stat, how can it have a plus or minus? It's COL% or COL/9.
June 9, 201610 yr Needs COL+ and COL- though, not advanced enough yet Also putting the first letter lowercase is even more advanced. cOL+ and cOL-
June 9, 201610 yr Also putting the first letter lowercase is even more advanced. cOL+ and cOL- Is this accurate @SongInTheAir?
