He had ridiculous movement on his 2-seamer that would freeze hitters. Nicolino wishes. There are no more Maddux type pitchers who could just dominate that way anymore, but, if anyone on the staff is close, I guess it would be Phelps. He has that similar movement on his fastball sometimes. The reason why Nicolino seems so efficient with his pitch count is because hitters can't wait to swing against him since he's throwing BP.

June 16, 201610 yr No, he is saying if you don't have any command of your pitches and that is what you rely on then it doesn't work in the MLB. He's absolutely right Nicolino can walk 2-3 guys in a row and then give up a parade of hits. He doesn't have swing miss stuff and has to constantly be on to succeed. Greg Maddux had incredible control. Him and Glavine were known for hitting the corners consistently and even widening them at times. Even for a guy that didn't throw so hard his strike out numbers were always pretty good. Well no shit, it doesn't matter who you are, if you don't have command of your pitches you're going to be unsuccessful. No one has consistent swing and miss stuff when it's left over the plate except Chapman. Look at all the guys in our rotation: Jose went from having a perfect game to giving up 4 by making a few bad pitches. TK, we have all seen the difference there. Chen and Conley as well. In conclusion, no one can survive over the heart of the plate. Not nicolino, not Jose. And so I don't have to add another quote, the MILB strike zone has nothing to do with why his numbers vary. That's an absolute joke.

June 16, 201610 yr as we start heading towards july.....its time to start doing better at home. 14-16 is NOT playoff worthy. and not to say this is a good time to start (because of course it is) doing good based on upcoming competition, you need to play well against whoever we play, whether that would be Colorado, cubs, reds, or nationals, etc. WC is obtainable playing 16 over at home, and .500 on the road.
