December 19, 20178 yr The only difference between The Marlins and an expansion team is JT Realmulto and Yelich
December 19, 20178 yr 1. The core being mediocre as a team doesnt mean they cant get good deals for the individual pieces. Kinda like how the core of the white sox got them huge deals that transformed their farm system in one offseason and as a team they still sucked. 2. It's a fact that Ozuna had by far the best year of his career and most people would agree that some sort of regression is in store for him, just depends on the extent. 3. I can like the deal as a whole and also prefer that they didnt make Alcantara the centerpiece of the deal. None of that is mutually exclusive. You're right though, we were right there! Who cares that we had a payroll near $140 million and couldnt even get over .500 since 2009, all we had to do was add a #1 and #2 pitcher!!!! We were right there! The only problem is a guy named Mike Hill who has no idea what a good trade is, or could recognize talent of any kind
December 19, 20178 yr The only problem is a guy named Mike Hill who has no idea what a good trade is, or could recognize talent of any kind i dont disagree. I hope someone asks jeter tomorrow night why mike hill is like the only person in the entire organization who he kept.
December 19, 20178 yr Trouble is the FO hasn't shown anyone respect yet. Bingo...with Loria, Jr running the team it's been worse than I ever expected. No respect, especially for any fans there are that are left. I am dreading the opening day next year when less than 5,000 show up....yes less than 5,000 for opening day. Will the AAA outdraw the team next year ?
December 19, 20178 yr Offer him an extension past his first few years of free agency and if he doesnt take it then trade him for multiple top prospects. Between him, Straily, Bearclaw, Bour, and Yelich, we should have the best farm system in baseball after this offseason if all those guys go. You forgot the "haul" of players we got from the Stanton deal....you know the one you insisted we were going to get ?
December 19, 20178 yr Do you even hear yourself? I'm convinced he's paid by the team to be a mindless "rah-rah" idiot.....tell your masters it's not working.
December 19, 20178 yr trading Yelich, Realmuto, Straily, Bour at the deadline, and then Bearclaw, we will have one of the best farm systems in baseball. Not all that controversial. Yelich and Realmuto will bring back enormous prospect hauls. Oh geeesh, where have we heard this shit before ? :Angry-min:
December 19, 20178 yr you really love taking an opinion of someone else and flat out calling it wrong. And yes, they would have one of the top farm systems in baseball if not the best. That's 5 different players with trade value, 2 of whom have ridiculously high price tags in Realmuto and Yelich. And you forget who is involved in the trades....... :hill
December 19, 20178 yr So let me see if I understand your logic. First we were going to get a huge haul for Ozuna. Then when we get an underwhelming deal for him, he's not that good and due for regression. That about sum it up? :high5 nailed it.....
December 19, 20178 yr I would have tried to get Weaver or Flaherty, but you're also just going off 1 list by saying he is their 9th best prospect. Im sure if you asked different scouts around baseball you can find a ton who view him much more highly than that. Also, they have one of the best farm systems in baseball. It's pretty clear the marlins are incredibly high on him, and they also got 2 other guys who are likely to be major league starters with 6 years of team control at some point in the upcoming season. Also, you might not be as high on the return as the team is, but you absolutely trade a guy with Ozuna's profile in the first year of a rebuild when everything he's done in the past makes it fairly obvious that he is due for some sort of regression in the upcoming year. He is not the player he was last year, he's probably somewhere in the middle of where he was last year and where he was every other year of his career. You are some piece of work.....if you aren't a paid shill for the team, then you are really stupid....they should be paying for anyone to be this rah-rah for the team. If you really believe all the shit you post, you must be extremely naive.
December 19, 20178 yr That doesn't mean that we have better decision-makers than the ones that put us in this mess. As a matter of fact we have the main culprit still here. I think we can start to assume that Loria was not as meddling as once was thought. The same crap is still happening. I just don't get why Loria didn't fire Hill a couple of years ago ? He was hurting his investment, and had the team had a middle of the pack farm system, it would have added at least $200 million I think to the price of the team. There is something fishy (no pun intended) about why Hill is still here.....it really stinks. I hate to be totally sinister and believe that MLB is somehow involved here and wants a really bad team in Miami, like forever, and makes sure that ownership is completely incompetent ....the forcing Loria on us, and now Jeter/Sherman who seem as cash poor as Loria and just as incompetent .....it's starting to smell. Is that you @fish20 rotting ?
December 19, 20178 yr If Yelich and/or Realmuto were gone, how did they make a competitive team? As you know, a new tv deal is coming after 2020 season. No fan base, no franchise player and no profit... That's the real pressure. Remember Astros' tv rating hit 0.0 during rebuilding. Well this is the whole deal....I think we're on the path to a real economic collapse....and very soon. The new "tax reform" will give to the rich and raise taxes on most of the working class and poor. Making going to baseball an even less viable venture than ever. Less disposable income means less time to watch baseball on TV as people have to work 2nd and 3rd jobs, which means less TV revenue. People who think this HUGE increase in TV revenue is coming in a couple of years aren't following the political trends and the real economic plight that is coming for working class folks. Attendance in baseball will take a HUGE hit, as well as TV revenue in the next few years as millennials continue to cut the cord, and when the new "tax reform" takes full effect. Something will have to give......

Something will have to give...... while I think the "tax reform" is a scam to line the pockets of the elite I don't see it having as big of an impact on baseball as you do lol. That said, this team is still headed for a complete collapse barring some monumental, powerball winning-esque stroke of luck (i.e. 4-5 shitty prospects suddenly turning into absolute studs and giving the Fish some seriously strong teams for a few seasons which will actually bring people in while the players are still cost-controlled. so yeah, pretty much they're effed and even with the new park, i'm wondering if relo talks will be on the table in a few more years again. i'm still blown away by how MLB approved the sale to this POS underfunded outfit - oh yeah, it let their glory boy get some more press and allowed Stanton to get into the spotlight.

Oh I think economics have already had an effect on attendance and will have a devastating effect in about 4 or 5 years when the full effect of the new "tax reform" takes hold. These big contracts that are owed to Stanton, and eventually Harper are going to cripple even teams like the Yankees and the Dodgers. People are not realizing what is coming.....a $1.4 trillion giveaway to the elite is money they are going to offset with cuts to SSI and Medicare. Instead of a 80/20 split in medicare, you will see it upped to a 30 or 35% seniors will have to pay out of pocket. That is going to be devastating to them since they are the biggest recipients of medical attention. Many of them already live on the edge and in poverty, and now the Rethuglicans in Congress are about to take more of the money they worked for away from them only to give it to the already obscenely wealthy. It's disgusting and one more reason that Rethuglicans are the real enemies of our country. But they are fomenting the coming revolution. The awakening has already happened with Sanders in the last election cycle. The momentum is still growing and this bill will farther that cause. But back to baseball, when the economy takes a slide, and it's due for one, it will be harder than ever for the recovery to happen with this significant shift in income. Baseball will be hit hard, as younger people don't care for it and the older people who will watch and support it, will find themselves with a lot less disposable income. Many of them will be forced, due to economic circumstances to cut their cords to cable and the internet. Smaller audience means smaller TV revenues.
December 19, 20178 yr Those players don’t have leverage. When you’re in year 0-6 of service time, you don’t get to decide where you play. The team does. And that holds even if your agents make trade requests and leak them to a sympathetic media. Maybe that’s an unpleasant truth, but it’s the truth. a quote from NBC sports

December 19, 20178 yr The question for me is how would Realmuto be if he stayed here. Wanting to be traded doesn't automatically mean he'd be a problem if he stayed. It'd be awesome to keep JT and build around him but if he's gonna become trouble then by all means get a haul for him now. Which building around? They just salary dump traded stanton for non top 100 prospects and will need to run a low payroll for another half decade at least to consolidate the debts. The farm is improved but still bottom half in mlb. So how are they competing in the next 3 years without a great farm or a decent payroll? Either they spend (not happening) or they build a farm like the padres or braves now have. They decided to rebuild and the only way to do it now is going rock bottom like the Astros a day lose 100 games back to back. That sucks but now it is the best they can do. Of course don't trade him right now but wait for a good offer but eventually he needs to be traded for the right return. The good players need to come from somewhere and with a bad farm and low payroll the only way to go is taking.
