December 17, 200322 yr Link? Who did we get? This BETTER be for Vlad money if we didn't get any major leaguers.
December 17, 200322 yr For P Mark New (sorry if spelled wrong), a PTBNL, and cash. Reported on channel 10
December 17, 200322 yr For P Mark New (sorry if spelled wrong), a PTBNL, and cash. Reported on channel 10 Neu, a reliever, and ex-Cane closer, threw the last pitch of one of our recent National Titles. And Cash. Hmm. Vlad money anyone?
December 17, 200322 yr Marlins trade Redman to Oakland Associated Press MIAMI - The Florida Marlins traded pitcher Mark Redman to Oakland for reliever Mike Neu on Tuesday night in yet another offseason move by the World Series champions. Redman was 14-9 with a 3.59 ERA last season for the Marlins, then was 0-1 with a 6.50 ERA in four postseason starts. He was one of seven arbitration-eligible players that the Marlins had to offer a contract before Saturday. The Marlins will also receive another player or cash to complete the deal, team spokesman Steve Copses said. Since winning the championship, the Marlins have traded first baseman Derrek Lee and outfielder Juan Encarnacion and parted ways with catcher Ivan Rodriguez and closer Ugueth Urbina. Neu had one save and a 3.64 ERA in 32 relief appearances last season for Oakland. He played college baseball for the University of Miami, earning three saves while helping the Hurricanes to the 1999 College World Series title. The Athletics traded starter Ted Lilly to Toronto earlier in the offseason.

December 17, 200322 yr It better be a considerable amount of money. I wish we had gotten a lefty for the bullpen.
December 17, 200322 yr Glad to see old Mike back. I kinda missed him. Except he will be wearing teal this time instead of orange and green.
December 17, 200322 yr I like Neu. I wouldn't give up Redman for him (so we'll have to see what the other variables in the deal end up being), but he's a good addition to the pen.
December 17, 200322 yr solid deal..... cant wait to find out the PTBNL and mula I don't know...the AP story said PTBNL OR cash.
December 17, 200322 yr solid deal..... cant wait to find out the PTBNL and mula I don't know...the AP story said PTBNL OR cash. hmmmm you are right it frees up some more money for that Vlad guy :thumbup
December 17, 200322 yr Hmm, to all the Vlad retractors..... Redman, if his salary stayed the same, would have been 2.15 mil. Neu makes I believe 300 Gs. that saves us 1.85 Mil, plus whatever cash they got. It just keeps getting closer and closer.....
December 17, 200322 yr I would think the demand for Redman was pretty high so hopefully we get a considerable amount of money or a really good prospect.
December 17, 200322 yr neu is a starter who couldn't crack the A's starting rotation so they used him out of the pen last season.

This was obviously a money saving deal and I think that indicates that the FO is going to try to make a splash with one of the big free agents. (hopefully Vlad)
December 17, 200322 yr redman would have made a minimum of $3 million in arbitration next season. I think we've just found our fifth starter until AJ is ready.
December 17, 200322 yr neu is a starter who couldn't crack the A's starting rotation so they used him out of the pen last season. Neu pitched 181 games in the minors and never started one. He'll be 26 in March, in case anyone was wondering his age.
December 17, 200322 yr Seems to have good stuff...2001 in 64 IP had 102 K's 305 Ks in 218 career minor league innings too. That's 12.6 per 9. It didn't seem to translate to the majors very well (strikeout-wise), at least not yet.
December 17, 200322 yr Was picked in the Rule 5 draft by A's from Reds in 2002...we had a chance to pick him if we didnt have our roster maxed out
