August 16, 20187 yr There can't be proof but sometimes all you need is common sense. He'll be suspended by MLB most likely without "proof" just like all the other pitchers in the past who did stupid shit. It isn’t about common sense though. Suspending guys on speculation is a very slippery slope the MLB shouldn’t go down but I’m sure they will. I’m just surprised most of you are treating Urena like he just murdered your dog. We all know he doesn’t have Greg Maddox control so I honestly believe there is a chance he wanted to bust him in and missed unintentional with his running fastball.
August 16, 20187 yr You act like no other pitcher has missed that bad before when it wasn’t intentional. Aroldis Chapman threw one earlier this year then was a good 5 feet in the left handed batters box so I guess he shouldn’t be a major league pitcher anymore? It’s really silly to bury a player when none of us have any proof on anything. Ok you care way more about defending him then I care about anything else. You win. ?
August 16, 20187 yr Jose Urena is a member here I guess. Cool. Can't imagine anyone defends him this much and isn't actually him.
August 16, 20187 yr Author David Samson thinks it was ok what Urena did... https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/former-marlins-president-defends-jose-urena-for-hbp-on-braves-ronald-acuna/ Even then, if you look at his words, Samson said you gotta make Acuna Jr uncomfortable and make him dance... so again I say, why didn't Urena just sail a pitch 5 feet behind Acuna instead of risking serious injury on his elbow?
August 16, 20187 yr why didn't Urena just sail a pitch 5 feet behind Acuna instead of risking serious injury on his elbow? Because he's an idiotic asshole.
August 16, 20187 yr Author Fish Stripes with their take on it...https://www.fishstripes.com/2018/8/16/17657150/jose-urena-ronald-acuna-hbp-ejection-intentional-suspension-marlins-trade-candidate Ureña had so much to gain from a focused and productive 2018 season, but still goes out of his way to incite conflict. He cannot be trusted to set an example for the Marlins’ rookie-laden roster or contribute to an eventual contender. Let Ureña be somebody else’s problem.
August 16, 20187 yr Author Because he's an idiotic asshole. I know, but I'm just saying, imagine the difference if he had just done that instead of what he did.
August 16, 20187 yr There’s no debate over Ureña’s intent. The umpires realized that, as they eventually decided to eject him, and both the pitch itself and the location—97.5 mph, one of the hardest he’s thrown all season and his fastest ever to open a game, aimed up around Acuña’s back despite catcher J.T. Realmuto setting up low and inside—left no doubt. Nor did Ureña’s demeanor, as he made no attempt to apologize to Acuña after the plunking and seemed ready to rumble once benches cleared. It was as intentional a beaning as you can get. https://www.si.com/mlb/2018/08/16/jose-urena-ronald-acuna-pitch-marlins-braves-brawl-injury-elbow?xid=socialflow_twitter_si&utm_campaign=si-mlb&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com
August 16, 20187 yr why didn't Urena just sail a pitch 5 feet behind Acuna instead of risking serious injury on his elbow? Or, absolute best option, throw a quality pitch.
August 16, 20187 yr I know, but I'm just saying, imagine the difference if he had just done that instead of what he did. If the first pitch of the game goes 5 feet behind him or above him.... you KNOW it was intentional. He threw a pitch while he was amped up and it got away from him. We saw that on Opening day, and we've seen it a few times from him. Those who swear it was intentional haven't been paying attention- and that includes Buster Onley and the other national reporters on twitter who are acting like they know the Marlins inside and out- while they haven't even seen em play on TV. This team is dismissed nationally unless it can be sensationalized and turned into a story.
August 16, 20187 yr Those who swear it was intentional haven't been paying attention- and that includes Buster Onley and the other national reporters on twitter who are acting like they know the Marlins inside and out- while they haven't even seen em play on TV. I've watched nearly every game of Urena's big-league career, it was intentional last night.
August 16, 20187 yr I've watched nearly every game of Urena's big-league career, it was intentional last night. Lets have a debate about it.... Why do you believe it was intentional. Is it simply the circumstances? I'm more likely to trust a Marlins fans opinion than anyone else on the internet with this--- too many people have hot takes.
August 16, 20187 yr Lets have a debate about it.... We can't dude, SI said "There’s no debate over Ureña’s intent."
August 16, 20187 yr Author As much as I hate it and agree that it was intentional, I do also think it's very hard to prove it wasn't accidental. He's hit players accidentally before. He didn't admit it was intentional. He didn't do make any physical mannerisms showing intent or a desire to be combative. He didn't pitch it to his head... The slippery slope thing is real... suspend him for this and you almost open the door to be able to suspend anyone who ever hits a batter.
August 16, 20187 yr The slippery slope thing is real... suspend him for this and you almost open the door to be able to suspend anyone who ever hits a batter. I'd be shocked if MLB doesn't suspend him. Not a lifetime ban, but a 5 or 6 game one.
August 16, 20187 yr Author I'd be shocked if MLB doesn't suspend him. Not a lifetime ban, but a 5 or 6 game one. Come to think of it, they suspended Straily for a much less blatant HBP so the precedent is there... maybe the slippery slope thing doesn't apply here.
August 16, 20187 yr Author This quote reminds me of Jose Fernandez... someone should ask Urena if Fernandez would have deserved to be drilled after a great pitching performance because it's basically the same thing and I know Urena loved Fernandez.
August 16, 20187 yr The obvious outcome. Disappointed in marlins for doing nothing at least so far. Not even empty words from the CEO. Jeter had a chance to make a statement to the baseball world with some action and thus far he struck out big time on this one.
