Urena hits Acuna Jr with first pitch

Featured Replies

There can't be proof but sometimes all you need is common sense. He'll be suspended by MLB most likely without "proof" just like all the other pitchers in the past who did stupid shit.

It isn’t about common sense though.  Suspending guys on speculation is a very slippery slope the MLB shouldn’t go down but I’m sure they will. I’m just surprised most of you are treating Urena like he just murdered your dog. We all know he doesn’t have Greg Maddox control so I honestly believe there is a chance he wanted to bust him in and missed unintentional with his running fastball.

You act like no other pitcher has missed that bad before when it wasn’t intentional.  Aroldis Chapman threw one earlier this year then was a good 5 feet in the left handed batters box so I guess he shouldn’t be a major league pitcher anymore? It’s really silly to bury a player when none of us have any proof on anything.

Ok you care way more about defending him then I care about anything else.  You win. ?

David Samson thinks it was ok what Urena did...

Even then, if you look at his words, Samson said you gotta make Acuna Jr uncomfortable and make him dance... so again I say, why didn't Urena just sail a pitch 5 feet behind Acuna instead of risking serious injury on his elbow?

Ureña had so much to gain from a focused and productive 2018 season, but still goes out of his way to incite conflict. He cannot be trusted to set an example for the Marlins’ rookie-laden roster or contribute to an eventual contender.

Let Ureña be somebody else’s problem.

There’s no debate over Ureña’s intent. The umpires realized that, as they eventually decided to eject him, and both the pitch itself and the location—97.5 mph, one of the hardest he’s thrown all season and his fastest ever to open a game, aimed up around Acuña’s back despite catcher J.T. Realmuto setting up low and inside—left no doubt. Nor did Ureña’s demeanor, as he made no attempt to apologize to Acuña after the plunking and seemed ready to rumble once benches cleared. It was as intentional a beaning as you can get.

I know, but I'm just saying, imagine the difference if he had just done that instead of what he did.

If the first pitch of the game goes 5 feet behind him or above him.... you KNOW it was intentional.

He threw a pitch while he was amped up and it got away from him. We saw that on Opening day, and we've seen it a few times from him.

Those who swear it was intentional haven't been paying attention- and that includes Buster Onley and the other national reporters on twitter who are acting like they know the Marlins inside and out- while they haven't even seen em play on TV.

This team is dismissed nationally unless it can be sensationalized and turned into a story.

I've watched nearly every game of Urena's big-league career, it was intentional last night.

Lets have a debate about it....

Why do you believe it was intentional. Is it simply the circumstances?

I'm more likely to trust a Marlins fans opinion than anyone else on the internet with this--- too many people have hot takes.

As much as I hate it and agree that it was intentional, I do also think it's very hard to prove it wasn't accidental. He's hit players accidentally before. He didn't admit it was intentional. He didn't do make any physical mannerisms showing intent or a desire to be combative. He didn't pitch it to his head...

The slippery slope thing is real... suspend him for this and you almost open the door to be able to suspend anyone who ever hits a batter.

I'd be shocked if MLB doesn't suspend him. Not a lifetime ban, but a 5 or 6 game one.

Come to think of it, they suspended Straily for a much less blatant HBP so the precedent is there... maybe the slippery slope thing doesn't apply here.

The obvious outcome. Disappointed in marlins for doing nothing at least so far. Not even empty words from the CEO. Jeter had a chance to make a statement to the baseball world with some action and thus far he struck out big time on this one.
