Urena hits Acuna Jr with first pitch

Featured Replies

As much as I hate it and agree that it was intentional, I do also think it's very hard to prove it wasn't accidental. He's hit players accidentally before. He didn't admit it was intentional. He didn't do make any physical mannerisms showing intent or a desire to be combative. He didn't pitch it to his head...

The slippery slope thing is real... suspend him for this and you almost open the door to be able to suspend anyone who ever hits a batter.

Nah, this situation would only apply when a bad pitcher plunks a good hitter.

I haven't been following, but have people actually been calling for a lifetime ban?

Some of social medias. Actually I've been shocked why some people was saying like that. A HBP was a typical and wide-open move in this baseball business, historically.

I'm 99.9% sure nobody was serious with the lifetime ban stuff.

Yeah then he doesn't have to get up to the plate against Atlanta, smart for him.

There’s always next year.  If I were him I’d rather get it over with now.

Yes, exactly.

I wonder if the Marlins players would defend him if the Braves all piled upon him.

They'd probably take the high road and defend him. It'd be the right thing to do as an organization. I know Urena fucked up but leaving him out to dry would be wrong too.

Ok you care way more about defending him then I care about anything else.  You win. ?

Hey, someone has to when everyone is painting him as the worst thing ever.  I could really care less about Urena specifically but the precedent this sets is dangerous for baseball in general. That is the main thing people should be upset about.

My thoughts exactly. He literally wouldn’t of been suspended if he played in a larger market or was a good pitcher. The MLB could care less about baseball down here and have no issue making an example out of him because they won’t receive any backlash.

Yeah he would've been. Large market pitchers and good pitchers have been suspended for intentionally throwing at hitters before.

I'm sure there's lots of others, but here's one example since you'll think I'm wrong. Chris Sale was suspended for 5 games a couple of years ago for intentionally throwing at a hitter. And just like this one, there was no "proof" he did it. Just common sense that he did.

Yes Jack, you’re inside his head and you know for sure he did it.  Smh....

Name me another scenario like Urenas that’s even comparable.  The only scenarios where these suspensions typically happen is where the players have a history against each other and it’s an eye for an eye or if both sides are already warned and beanings happen after the warning. Urena has no history of hitting Atlanta players.

Why was Urena suspended for 6 instead of 5?
