Interesting idea and the new section in its place is also interesting but it's also, well, interesting that Grooms is pretty adamant about not moving it.

 

Generally speaking though, I'm very intrigued by all the changes they wanna start trotting out next season. The changes to the ballpark should be more intriguing than the team in 2019. 

 

 

Agree.  Definitely interested in seeing what changes they make to the park.  Though I think the place is going to look boring with just another flat thing of tiers of seats out there.  Maybe I’ll try to photoshop something here in the next few days...

That tier area itself may look boring but when you figure it obviously won't be the only change then probably all the changes as a whole will be an improvement in the appearance of the ballpark interior.

Tropicana field has some tiered bar area in left center field.  It used to be branded by the restaurant owned by Longoria but now that he’s gone I think they changed it.

"She" is fair game like when a captain refers to his boat as she or a race car driver to his car but "he" makes it sound like it's been possessed by someone or something. 

 

 

So from the article, they describe the three tiers:

Did you make new WS banners on the windows too?  That ballpark as a whole looks sweet, just wondering if I spotted that detail or if I’m imagining it.

 

As for the intent of the rendering, I like what you did there.I think it would work as Mr. Bowers decribed.

OK, here goes. From the beginning, I feel like we, down in here in unsophisticated S Florida (compared to the NY mentality) continue to be insulted.  From "more fans will come if we play more latin music" to the comunidad 305 which will create more fans by forming separate segregated sections by nationality with loud music, banging drums etc. to this.

 

I can understand they would rather move the sculpture, which I was never offended by, and that is fine.  Create some more seats, standing room, all fine.  But the need to justify it with such idiotic statements, that it will draw higher attendance from millennials (or the S Florida equivalent of a millennial-not as sophisticated as other places) because we can charge less and they will come out to watch shitty baseball BECAUSE, they get cheap baseball and while they are standing there they will also get to spend half their time looking back at the skyline and just be enthralled with the view.  REALLY, seriously, how long can a person, and one who can see the same view just driving on the highway, look at the view of downtown and why is that a draw to come to the baseball stadium. The only time we will see an uptick in attendance is when we start winning and have players that attract us.  Even then, we know this is a long process that will require proof that this will be sustained.  All this BS about loud sections of pot banging sections with flags waving, and views of downtown tells me that if they are paying this guy, Chip Bowers, more than $1, then he is overpaid.

 

Try whatever you like, but these are not world changing marketing ideas.  They are couched in stupidity that may be influenced by being an outsider with strange predispositions to stereotype our community.

I did add new WS banners - I find it pathetic that the only two instances of success in the organization's history are relegated to some tiny little metal "flags" (it was even more pathetic when they did the limp, windless flags.

 

Nobody noticed the Publix Park either.... hehe

My idea was that it would wrap around in front of the existing staircase, so that the staircase (which never gets used currently) would be behind these new platforms and be the access route to the three levels, and also allow for access to what is currently the Clevelander during the game.  I'm also supportive of turning the Clevelander into a family zone, allowing kids to use the pool during the game, that would necessitate moving the Clevelander somewhere else, though.

 

From Bowers' description, it sounded like the top tier was an extension of the promenade, as he mentioned views of both the field and the skyline.

 

I suppose it's possible they go the cheap route and just put 3 tiers within the existing "bowl" the sculpture is in - but I don't know if it sits high enough to match the description of views both ways.

I am not against the latin music either, or the standing room section being discussed. My issue is how it was even brought forth initially as a basis for attracting more people.  That, to me, has been the problem behind many of these "cultural" decisions.  That in S Florida, people will pay to come to the park because they get a certain kind of music or food.  People will not keep coming back because they can hear music or buy a certain food item, that is all part of providing decent choices and value, because they can eat, drink and listen to music anywhere but the product on the field is what matters most and until that happens, the few people you entice based on a weird view of our demographics will not matter much at all.

 

It just seems like they couch their remarks that our community needs these cultural carrot sticks as opposed to other cities who do not need them, because we need to appeal to more basic needs for our people.  They can try anything they want and I would not have any issues, but stop trying to sell it with really dumb reasons.  And yes, it is really dumb to think people will come partly because they can spend their time looking out the back windows.  

 

 

even winning wouldn't cure this franchise at this point.  It would take years of being legit front runners and having some truly big and charismatic stars to draw people in.  There would be an uptick in attendance with a quality product on the field for sure but it'll still be really sparse and a bottom 5 attendance team for several years.  If they made the playoffs those games would likely sell out or be close to it (outside of W.S. games I'm not even convinced they'd sell out NLDS or NLCS tickets yet) but by and large it would take at LEAST 3-4 years of really strong teams to start getting the attendance levels back to respectable levels.  I don't see this happening though as getting to that point is going to require some serious financial losses and this group doesn't seem too keen on doing that.  I know some of you are still gung-ho over the "vision" this group has but their farm system is still atrocious, the MLB team is seriously shitty and has zero drawing power with no help on the horizon so yeah - not sure what they can do unless they seriously luck out via the draft AND actually start investing in some FA's (international FA's would be a good start).

I'd take it a step further and saying it would take not just "winning" but a truly dominating team to get people to truly fill the stands down there.  Unfortunately, they traded away nearly all their big pieces for junk so it's not like they have some hotshot prospects ready to step in and start bridging that gap. I hope to hell they spend that international money and get some legit players to make this team respectable at least next season and maybe even snag a mid-tier FA.  This year was just flat out atrocious not only in the result on the field but just the production of their "haul" they received from gutting the team.
