January 8, 20206 yr Because he becomes a switch hitting better Marwin if he can handle CF. He'd be tremendous in that role, especially since CF has lower depth with Monte the only viable longterm option right now and he is very volatile So you have no idea if he can actually handle the position above replacement level. It's one thing to hope and pray that he can fill a position, but anything beyond that is eh. CF is one of your most important defensive positions, to throw someone out there that has never really played the position is putting your pitchers in a real bad spot. With as much youth as the Marlins staff has, its one of the last things you really need to be doing!
January 8, 20206 yr You need to delay his service time to past Super 2 status. That's mid June. He was also hurt for part of last year. Take some reps in AAA and strike out less. I hate that mindset so fucking much. He wont be a free agent til he is age 30 as it is. Does that extra year really matter if he is going to be 31 then as opposed to 30?

But you take the gamble as if he's even OK there, you've created a massive trade asset or you keep him. Of course he has to hit though

You gotta play the game. An extra year of service time becomes a major asset if the player works out. They can never buy out Monte and take him year to year through his prime. That's amazing. Look at George Springer's value to the Astros.

January 8, 20206 yr But you take the gamble as if he's even OK there, you've created a massive trade asset or you keep him. Of course he has to hit though And if he is a disaster defensively you've fucked your entire pitching staff. So there is that as well.

January 8, 20206 yr https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/01/diamondbacks-sign-hector-rondon.html "Rondon, an Octagon client, will receive a $3MM guarantee that comes in the form of a $2.5MM salary and $500K buyout on the club option." Our FA RP target signed in our price range …
January 9, 20206 yr Rondon was the youngest among the three FA RP targets Mish mentioned, and I don't think Kintzler and Strop would asking for less.
January 10, 20206 yr Author This team may and may not continue to spend money in this off-season. Yep, those are the only 2 possible outcomes.
January 11, 20206 yr This super diehard Marlins and Puig fan tweets he wants Puig every single day in this off-season and finally Joe responds to him.
January 23, 20206 yr https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/01/checking-in-on-last-seasons-worst-bullpens.html I think Marlins would be one of them when I see the thread title but I'm wrong.

February 5, 20206 yr Author Maybe to make sure the writer be the member here or not, you know what I mean. If we have a writer for a Mets blog here, I'd be surprised. Either way, this one is not an ok mistake to make. It just shows no research. Writer could have spent 5 seconds confirming it.
