He can't really do worse than Matt Joyce has done lately.

Since August 22nd, Joyce is slashing .232 / .333 / .348, facing almost exclusively right handed pitching. wRC+ of 92. Bad.

Since September 1st, even worse! Slashing .186 / .294 / .279 with a wRC+ of 64. Two extra base hits. Again, almost exclusively right handed pitching.

Let's also throw in the fact of Brinson's defense being MUCH better than Joyce's, and, again ... why are we not putting Lew out there every day?

I love me some Lewis Brinson, but he's got a 57 wRC+ against righties in 2020. I think he's back on the path to greatness, but probably need another offseason before he's ready to make righties tremble like he's doing to lefites.

That's still very similar to Joyce's 64 wRC+ overall since September 1st.

I'd much rather have the exact same offense and much better defense.

Lol, batting average? Yeah, I'm sure Donnie's using the hell out of some 1800s statistics.

He's got a career 112 wRC+ against lefties, and even if the best days are behind him, I'm confident he can muster something like a 90 wRC+, which is probably better than putting Jazz in against an extreme breaking ball lefty.

I know for a fact that's not true. Donnie has talked multiple times since at least 2019 about using analytics when setting the lineup.

And honestly we're probably being a little extra mean to Donnie at times but really it is baffling how he's so dead set on some of these platoons and his situational bullpen management.

As apposed to what? Using inferior matchups? It's about putting guys in a position for maximizing success -- something they've been doing in the NFL now for years.

In the last 30 days he has a 106 wRC+ vs righties. Considering his superior defense he should get more starts vs them.

Yes I'm sure it's been mainly against lefties. But you're telling me it's fine to keep trotting out Joyce's 64 wRC+ in that same timeframe when he's allegedly facing a situational advantage? 🤷‍♂️

Not starting Joyce consistently when he's not hitting anyone, there's step 1.

Again, we will concede that there are some times when whoever he has in the game is simply because he has to put SOMEONE out there and rest some other guys due to this long stretch of games without a break.

But some of these decisions need to be made a little less. Sticking with certain guys in certain situations isn't going to cut it.
