August 20, 20215 yr If you legitimately think that going from 4th to either 3rd or 5th in the lineup or having Rowson go from calling the shots to standing next to the guy calling the shots is enough to CAUSE Brinson to go into a slump, do you really think that the guy has the mental fortitude to adjust to pitchers at the big league level. He is slumping. He was never going to have a 1.000 OPS for an entire season. The one good thing is that in the past few games, his K and BB rate have not completely regressed and the approach has not collapsed. Everything that happened around it is a complete coincidence. If it is not, then Brinson was never going to have long term success anyway.

If it is not, then Brinson was never going to have long term success anyway. Just because Brinson has developed into a better hitter doesn’t necessarily mean that the Don effect isn’t real. The problem goes way past a simple tweaking in the lineup. I put the blame on how they handled Brinson last year by not instilling confidence when he was rarely used even as a bench player. That’s a lot of pressure and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that his bat improved when Don was out. I’m also not going to count Rowson’s record as a fluke either when Don goes 1-5 or 1-6 now when he returned. The players may like Don but they gave up a long time ago, he’s repetitious with players who don’t belong and that wears thin on players who want to win

Though some players do better with consistency - knowing where you are in the lineup, if you're in the lineup, where you're playing, etc. - rather than a "spin the wheel and see what happens today" approach. And Brinson may be one of them.
