At the time, we thought that fire sale was rock bottom and we'd be making our way to contention, but if you draw a line between then and now and in reality we've just been getting further and further away.

I honestly rank it as my third favorite season as a full-time fan, being topped by 2003 and 2009 (I wasn't old enough to enjoy or really remember 1997 except for Bonilla's homer).

2nd favorite for me after 1997, 2003 is down on the list because I admittedly didn't follow closely the full season, got back on the bandwagon in the playoffs that year. 

I don't know... If someone were to have told me that the rebuild that started in 2006 would still be going on in 2022, I'd have cried.

We did get better/were into '08 and '09, and had the stadium on the horizon finally, when things were supposed to change, but obviously that never happened 😞
