I think it was for TV viewers, not attendees.

Yeah I doubt they’re making that change for 10,486 people going to that game. But the Heat in the NBA Finals is a big deal. Now people can watch both on TV.

Are they going to do the same for Panthers games that start at 8?

Or because it's Broward, it doesn't exist like the rest of their marketing lol.

Which days are Panthers playing at home? That may be out of the Marlins' hands cause after Wednesday the team is going on a road trip (9 games, 11 days).

Don't bring facts into this lol.

I just looked it up, and you're right, the Marlins are out of town for the entirety of the rest of the Panthers series, excluding tonight's game which is in Vegas anyway.

The Heat are in the playoffs?

Hahahaha. I know you're joking here, but that's like the reality of majority of Miami people. 😂 They don't even have any idea the Heat are in the playoffs and then once they make the finals they find out, now if they go up 2-1 in the series they might actually start paying attention maybe watch part of a game and imagine if they win the championship they will be the first people in line at the parade dressed in full Heat gear and taking selfies to post on the Gram, acting like they the biggest Heat fans of all time. But you know the following week they won't give a shit anymore. 😂

Welcome to Miami!

Well, it is what is it.. Let's get the Marlins 10 games over .500 and Eury on a 5 game winning streak and creating a big buzz around MLB and then all of a sudden the Marlins become a hot ticket again! Thus confirming what we have discussed on here for years and I and others wrote way too many posts about in the offseason. The only thing that will bring these superficial Fear of Missing Out Miami people to the games is to be trending and that only happens with the team making a buzz, either by being in the playoff chase late in the season or having the splashy young pitcher making a big buzz (Dontrelle, JJ, Jose, Sixto etc) Eury Perez has the potential to be that pitcher this year. The fans didn't come out for Cy Young season Sandy last year or Pablo as well. Not splashy and fiery enough. 😂

The young splashy pitcher will bring out the people only on games he pitches. The Marlins being in a playoff hunt in September will bring them out almost every night. Now if the Marlins can play the way they've been playing against the Angels, A's and Royals against other teams, that would be amazing and really start creating buzz. Unfortunately, the Braves and Mets and Dodgers and a lot of other teams probably won't really help with that too much. 😂

This is rather specific

Attendance for last night's game was: 7,232.

I was being generous.

Amaya could be this year's Cabrera then 🤷‍♂️ young hitter who comes up and just hits well enough to push us forward. Replacing a bat that is middling (Berti or Segura or Wendle, take your pick).

It could work!

Ah, yes, the notorious F MOMs.

Just now, Michael said:

Really? I haven’t really paid attention to him. But do you really think that Amaya is a Cabrera type player? Not a rhetorical question, I’m serious, is he that type of player that could get called up and make a Cabrera in ‘03 type splash offensively? Would be great. And actually would be great to see Segura out and someone else at 3B. I know that you and I will argue the rest of the season on this but I still think offensively it would be better to have Jazz at SS and if Jonathan Davis can keep hitting like he has, keep him in CF, better defense and useful bat in the lineup over Wendle. But agree to disagree. All I know is that I’ve found the new Vesia/Lewin type running joke of 2023.

Jazz at SS! 😂

I've thought about this a bunch lately. I consider myself a casual Heat fan, I barely watch the games lately but I generally know what the team is up to and who is who. These last couple weeks I've heard more fans talking about the games but you can tell who just now started watching and it's wild to me that those people call themselves fans. I heard someone pronounce Bam Adebayo's name wrong yesterday and it's like come on how can that guy say he's a Heat fan? Be honest and say you're just watching the finals and just cheering them on for fun but that's an insult to say you're a real fan.

When did attendance actually increase for the 03 Marlins? Like I'm wondering where's the point where the fans actually show up. In my eyes the 2023 Marlins are already good enough that people should start showing up more. But I bet most of Miami still has no clue that they're a fun watch now.

Saw a lot of positive tweets to the time change, "great job Marlins... W... classy move... great organization" yada yada... just makes me chuckle when earlier this year we had people saying they'd never go to games and boycott the team and blah blah blah. People can be so stupid.

Quick search gave me this NY Times article from Oct of 03...

Even by mid-September, when the Marlins were on the verge of winning the N.L. wild card, attendance was still among the worst in the major leagues, after the Expos and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, a team even newer than the Marlins.

For most of the season, the square and enormous Pro Player Stadium was lucky to have 17,000 paying customers for Marlins games. But as the team surged in the playoffs, fans began snapping up tickets like hot empanadas, toasting players whose names they do not know (except maybe that Pudge guy) and basking in the sunny promise of a World Series championship.

Now that the Marlins are a hot ticket -- more than 65,000 people attended each of the three home playoff games against the Cubs -- the few fans who have been rooting for them all along roll their eyes but say they welcome the company.

The beautiful thing about the internet is that for questions like yours, the answer can be found very quickly.

So I was just reviewing the Marlins 2003 attendance numbers. And while during that season, after McKeon came and they started winning more games and were over .500 they did have several home games with a  20k - 30k+ attendance, but the majority of the games were still in the ~10-15k range.

It wasn't until September 12th home series vs the Braves that the big attendance numbers started taking off which coincidentally happened to be when the Marlins were in the thick of the Wild Card chase.

The highlighted games in orange are home games starting from September 12 to the end of the season.

So the statement I made earlier in the thread "The Marlins being in a playoff hunt in September will bring them out almost every night." I just made that based off of memory of the 2003 season. But it's funny looking back at the numbers and seeing how true that really is.

Good post @SirFishFan but man I would love if people actually started showing up now. Show an appreciation for a better team that is already in the race and at least fun to watch now. Show up now and be (or become) a fan as opposed to the losers who show up on game 1 of the playoffs and can't tell you the names of the players. Imagine how great it would be for the players to see more fans showing up early in the summer.

Hahahaha. Some things never change. 🤣

I can remember when a couple people asked me if I was a Marlins fan just because they won the world series that year. I can honestly tell them that nope I was already a Marlins fan. I remember going to a Marlins game in May of '03 a couple of weeks before they hired Jack McKeon. 2003 was actually the first year I became a Marlins fan but starting on opening day of that year. I had just saw a couple of games on TV in 2001 and 2002 but didn't really pay attention too much. I was just a young teenager back then. But I remember right at the beginning of the 2003 season deciding to become a Marlins fan. Back on those days when they would show some Marlins games on PAX TV. My family didn't have cable TV that year, and they only showed several games a week on PAX so I remember I listened to a lot of games on WQAM and then eventually followed along on MLB Gameday play by play. 🤣

Long post ahead, as usual:

Yeah, that's something else I and others have posted about in the past.

In my opinion based on being a Marlins fan, longtime Miami resident, observer of human behavior of typical Miami sports fan, the only way I see that scenario you described happening is the Marlins would have to win the WS, and then the following season continue to improve the team and bring in 1-2 superstars and get to the point where they can consistently win and be top of or 2nd place minimum in NL East every month and make the playoffs 2-3 years in a row, then probably after 3 years of making playoffs and with a extremely solid lineup and pitching staff that might be enough to get the attendance to maybe a 25k average per night. Sound like a lot and it is. But I just don't see people showing up just because.

In the offseason I wrote a long post about how nothing succeeds like success and the importance of winning NOW, and stopping that mindset of "well, just 3-5 years away" because they've always been in that endless cycle of hoping for a better future and thinking some prospect or two down the line will get called up and single-handedly bring the Marlins to the promise land. Because once that 3-5 years arrives the roster is completely different and that budding prospect is either traded away or if he is called up doesn't make much of an impact if the rest of the team is pretty bad, and the "just 3-5 years away" begin again, and so on and so on.

I say forget that and the best thing they can do to ensure a successful 2025/2026 season is to start winning this year. And then maybe they make the playoffs and at least the NLDS this year, and in the offseason improve 1 or 2 more pieces and next year make the NLCS, and keep improving little by little every year and once people see the Marlins actually are a consistent winning team they will start being willing to show up and spend money. But has to start NOW.

And the biggest key to all of this is consistently winning.

So I'm very encouraged to see the Marlins playing pretty well so far. Hopefully can keep it up.

I'm a casual Heat fan - maybe even more of a "bandwagon" fan.....I didn't watch a single game until the playoffs this year, and didn't even watch any of the playoff run last year.

I just don't have much of an interest in basketball though, so I'm not really drawn to watch it in general, but a playoff run is fun to watch.

I've gotten more into hockey the last few years, but didn't watch games consistently this year - I'd see some here and there.

The Marlins are the only team I follow closely.

I think it'll mirror the '03 season in that we won't see any big uptick in attendance until we're right toward the end of the season and are in a wild card spot or close to it.  It'd be great to see folks come out sooner, but I don't see it happening.  I mean, I guess I can't say much either since I haven't been to a game since 2019....

Compared to the current overall production of Berti and Wendle and Segura, yes!

An actual Cabrera-esque bat? No. lol.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Nasim Nunez up here soon enough. Platinum Glove tier defense by all accounts and can ruuuuuuuuuun.

I don't think there's anything wrong with this either, we can't all watch every game in every sport but it's just lame to see the posers who swear they're super fans.
