Not to steal from our Schitts Creek meme, but that's a good show. I can't find anyone else that watches it. Have you seen it?

I would like to, it interests me, but I don't have Starz or whatever it's on.

We tried to get into it because some heads from work enjoyed it but it didn't do anything for us so we stopped after probably 4 eps.

If you like wrestling, season 2 has felt more like a wrestling show. Season 1 was kinda too much soap opera.

What's the role of wrestling in the show? Like is it a show about wrestling or is it about a guy who just happens to be a wrestler? That's my curiosity. Do you have to like wrestling to like the show?

It’s a show about a small local wrestling promotion with the lead being the guy who runs it, writes the scripts for it and also wrestles in it. You kinda have to like wrestling especially for season 2 yes.

I watched it until [this is an actual spoiler below so don't check if you haven't seen it] ...

Spoiler

Ace broke the guy's leg during the match and they put the close-up of the skin breaking. NO THANKS!

There's been nothing at all graphic this season. I agree that was rough but it's basically like watching WWE this year with the ring work and promos.

So has that been the only time anything of that nature took place?

Honestly the ring work on Heels has been so good this season, I have to assume they have pro wrestlers helping them out behind the scenes. I know there's at least one pro wrestler in the cast this year anyway.

CM Punk made an appearance in the episodes I did see.

Although he wasn't exactly a wrestler at the time .........

.... debatable if he is now.

Yeah CM Punk is the one I'm referring to, he has more screen time in Season 2.

i'd rather watch college football than wrestling - "professional wrestling" is the bane of all existence

Seems like a stretch but I get it, it's not for everyone. I'd rather watch wrestling than football though.

I grew up in Tampa in the 80s and early 90's which was a virtual mecca of "pro wrestling" since Hulk Hogan and several others lived there and you'd literally see them out and about - but I NEVER understood the appeal of it.  I remember when Ultimate Warrior finally "ended" Hogan's "winning" streak (i'm assuming that's what it was) and kids were going apeshit at school the next day. I still didn't get the point of watching some clearly fake drama and ridiculous looking stunts.

Now that I'm all grown up I still don't get why people watch it?  What's the entertainment factor there?  There's no competition at all as it's all faked and scripted.  I've heard some compare it to a really bad soap opera but I honestly don't even see that comparison as there isn't a scintilla of realism.  I truly don't understand why this continues to be a thriving industry?  Please explain the appeal?  I'm not trying to be rude. I just don't get why people care about something that is a totally fake sport as there's no actual competition going on.

I don't watch it much anymore, but I used to. And I still enjoy the concept which is why I like Heels.

For me, it was never a sport so the fact it was scripted didn't matter, it was entertainment. It was like watching a TV show for me.

This is why I say I can't fault anyone cuz it's like hard to explain. It's one of those things where if you like it you like and if you don't you don't. But as you said, it's a thriving business even today so there must be some appeal to it. I don't think it gets the credit it deserves for being successful. It hooks people and has a tremendously following.

Anyways, like Jack said, it's more TV show than entertainment. Fans don't care that its fake. Harry Potter, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, etc are all fake so same shit as that for us. A lot of entertainment is fictional. Looking at it like a legitimate sport I think hurts it.

But I enjoy following the stories and seeing what's gonna happen next as it's essentially a continuous story for me since I first saw it in 1992. It's got a snowball effect for me over the years, like what I watch on wrestling today branched out from what I first saw when I was a kid .

Also for me and I think for many die hard fans now a big thing is knowing the real life stories behind most of it. A good and simple example now is a wrestler who I saw have his first matches back in the late 90s, I watched his entire career, he's now having his final run of matches before retiring. To follow that career and enjoy his work has zero to do with whether or not the matches are real, as in that sense it's like the whole celebrating of Miguel Cabrera's career that's going on in baseball this year. It's more like that than believing if it's real.
