Marlins Trivia Pursuit #4

ALL MARLINS TRIVIA PURSUIT

6 questions this time, the last being the hardest. Good luck & no cheating.

1. The nickname Sea bass or maybe C-bass was given to what Marlin player and do you know the reason why?

2. What Marlin was an avid deer hunter during the off seasons?

3. What Marlin had six fingers?

4.  What Marlin pitcher was charged by what player and what Marlin closed lined him?

5. What Marlin was selected by the expansion TB Rays as their first compensation pick?

6) What Marlin pitcher compared his demeanor on the mound as a “Bulldog”?

1. The nickname Sea bass or maybe C-bass was given to what Marlin player and do you know the reason why? Alex Gonzalez, because he looked like a big mouth bass?

2. What Marlin was an avid deer hunter during the off seasons? Mike Dunn

3. What Marlin had six fingers? Antonio Alfonseca

4.  What Marlin pitcher was charged by what player and what Marlin closed lined him? Chris Volstad was charged by Nyger Morgan and closelined by Gaby "Mysterio" Sanchez

5. What Marlin was selected by the expansion TB Rays as their first compensation pick?  Tony Saunders

6) What Marlin pitcher compared his demeanor on the mound as a “Bulldog”? Probably Kevin Gregg

It was so weird shaking El Pulpo's hand, his god given disfigurement must be a real gift to his wife.

That one I know! And I have the full story. I remember hearing it on a broadcast all the way back in 2003.

The answer is Alex Gonzalez and the story they gave on that broadcast was that the nickname was given to him by Kevin Millar who said that Alex Gonzalez face and facial expression looked like a dead Sea Bass. 😂

The plate discipline of one, too.

Actually a dead sea bass would have swung at less.

On a side note, another facial expression that brings back memories was Braden Looper’s smile on the mound.  I would always point at the tv and tell my brother, look it’s the Joker, watch him smile.

Jordan Peele reminds me of Scott Olsen.

Are all 6 fully functioning??

Nah, it was more like a pinky toe on the side of his hand, I have a picture of it somewhere when he was signing an autograph.

I agree with most answers submitted but on question # 2 as I recall Josh Beckett bagged some sort of record buck while deer hunting.

I wish my ex-wife would have read this earlier.

Maybe your giving her too much credit.  Some dogs will never change.

Yes, thats the freaky part. Got his autograph in 1998/1999 by the bullpen in Pro Player, a few days later I was in NY at Shea and saw him again. He recognized me, gave some playful banter about my Mets hat and Marlins Jersey- then went to shake my hand. THAT was the moment I realized he had 6 fingers. He wiggled that thing and it freaked me the hell out, we both laughed. He showed me the extra digit and I realized what they meant when they said he gets great spin on the ball because of his hand. You can just tell he was happy to be a player and connect with fans. I believe I have pictures from both time I met him that week. I gotta find them.

RESULTS ARE IN

BOX SCORE: 5-6

ANSWERS: (With some of your explanations)

1. Alex Gonzalez “The nickname was given to him by Kevin Millar who said that Alex Gonzalez face and facial expression looked like a dead Sea Bass.”

2. Josh Beckett

3. Antonio Alfonseca

4. “Chris Volstad was charged by Nyger Morgan and closelined by Gaby "Mysterio" Sanchez”

5. Tony Saunders

6. AJ Burnett.  He made the bulldog claim  I believe in his rookie year. He must have meant it because he wore a big dog chain at that time as well.

Well done guys!!!
