MLB Draft Day/s- 7/13-713

Featured Replies

First three rounds on Sunday 7/13, rounds 4-20 on Monday 7/14.

Very important draft for the Marlins. Last year's returns are mixed at best so far. The Marlins were unlucky in the lottery and fell to 7th in the draft despite having the third worst record.

The Marlins have overall picks #7, #43 (Competitive Balance), #46, and #78 in the first three rounds on Sunday. After that they will have the third pick in rounds 4-20.

If form holds, Bendix and Co. will go for a HS middle infielder. They cover Eli Willits (son of big league Reggie Willits), but rumors are he will go higher perhaps even #1.

Other names being linked with the Fish are HS SS Billy Carlson, HS SS Jo Jo Parker, and CBB C/1B Ike Irish.

My hunch is that they will end up taking Jo Jo Parker if Willits is off the board.

There are 7 really good prospects in this year's draft so if any of them fall unexpectedly into the Marlins lap they could be tapped as well.

Those 7 are Ethan Holllday, Kade Anderson, Seth Hernandez, Liam Doyle, Willits, Aiva Arguette, and Jamie Arnold.

Right now MLB has our projected picks at #7 Billy Carlson, #43 Alex Lodise (SS- FSU), #46 Matthew Fisher (HS-P), and #78 Gavin Turley (OF-Ore. St.)

Of course a lot depends on signability and bonus slotting as well as players dropping unexpectedly.

The Fish need to hit a home run at #7 even if it takes several years of development. Three picks in the top 50 can set up a good base for the future. History has not been on the Marlins side as we have been more miss than hit, but hopefully the emphasis on analytics and scouting will pay off.

So glad for the rain delay. I would have missed the first bit of this game. Stowers with 3 homers!

best available or cheapest available?

Price generally has no bearing on the draft. Teams get X amount to spend and they all spend it. How they juggle the bonuses within the draft is another matter.

Kade Anderson to the Mariners. Let's hope we aren't going under slot at 7.

that's what I meant when I said best available or cheapest available
