Best fastball on Marlins?

Featured Replies

What do the following pitchers average and what do they top out at on the radar gun?

1.)A.J. Burnett

2.)Josh Beckett

3.)Brad Penny

I keep hearing that Burnett (when healthy) has more raw velocity than Beckett.

successful rehab after tommy john surgery can typically add a little velocity to your arm... after AJ gets back, he'll be faster than ever.

it's not all about velocity on the fastball...movement is needed too...i'll go with Beckett as the best, but i've never seen Burnett pitch.

Are you a huge bandwagoner or just not a marlins fan? Aj's awsome to watch, hes topped off at 102 a few times, and they say you throw harder after TJ surgury, hes got a nasty power knuckle curve, but sometimes gets too into the changeup, but the skys the limit for him now that hes finally playing behind a great team.

Any radar reading over 100 mph i have trouble believing. Sorry just my opinion. AJ was outright nasty. His problem was control. Remember he threw a no-no giving up 9 walks! Some Scouts think that AJ had better raw stuff. As far as the added mph after Tommy John surgey I have heard and seen that as well, but it is after two years(from the surgery). The thing that is being forgotten is that it is two years until you are 100% back. Eventhough AJ will probably be pitching by the allStar game don't expect to see his old form till 2005.

On potential, a 1-2 combination of Beckett and Burnett in 2005 will be the best in baseball.

AJ Burnett of course.

He just has some nasty and easy gas. With Movement also....

Then Comes Beckett, Penny, Pavano, Willis.

Beckett's come into his own, and he has a filthy curve, but Burnett can flat out gas it. He has a real issue with the first inning though; once he settles in, it's all over if we have a lead :D

i'm a Reds and Cubs fan.

How is this Possible :o the way i got into baseball...my first memory actually...i was not quite 3 years old, and i watched a Cubs and Reds game. Sandberg hit 2 homers, and Conception stole 2 bases. since then i've been a fan of both teams, preferring the Reds slightly over the Cubs.

After complete rehibilitation of his arm:

Burnett: Consistantly- 97 MPH, Top- 102 MPH

Beckett: Consistantly- 95 MPH, Top- 100 MPH

Penny: Consistantly- 95 MPH, Top- 99 MPH

Willis: Consistantly- 92 MPH, Top- 96 MPH

Pavano: Consistantly- 92 MPH, Top- 95 MPH

If Burnett has the same arm he did before the surgery, the answer to the questions of who has the best fastball and best movement on the staff is WITHOUT QUESTION Burnett.

Thank you captain obvious. :p

Thank you captain obvious. :p Me and you are two of about two dozen people (maybe that many) on a site with 1,100 members that realize how obvoius this is, so I figured it needed to be stated.

I don't know if people come back and throw with better velocity than before the surgery. Take Kerry Wood for example. In his rookie year, he was consistently 97-98 mph. Now, he's more consistently at 95-96 mph and topping off at 98 mph. But he's no longer bringing that fastball 98 mph all the time like before the surgery.

I like to Watch AJ pitch, its just entertaining how he has the hitters swinging late on his fastball. It has a little jump when it reaches homeplate. He has a nice and easy delivery and then just explodes out of no where lol.

I remeber when AJ topped 101 MPH against Shawn Green!
