Rotation

Beckett

Penny

Willis

Pavano

Oliver

I think you can make the case to put Oliver as the #3 to keep Willis' load light and let him continue to adjust. Or even Pavano as #3 because he is arguably the 2nd best pitcher we have and Penny just has better potential. So:

Beckett

Pavano

Penny

Oliver

Willis?

What do you all think?

Beckett

Pavano

Penny

Willis

Oliver

Would sound good....Pavano has shown more consistancy than Penny on the mound and throws more strikes.

I think it should be:

Beckett

Penny

Pavano

Willis

Oliver

If Oliver and Willis were not both lefties I would agree but my sense is Jack isn't going with lefties back to back. If Oliver in fact is fifth in the roration then it's reasonable to assume Pavano will probably be inserted between Willis and Oliver making the roration look something like:

Beckett

Penny

Willis

Pavano

Oliver

but then again who knows what Jack and Rosie have up their sleeves. :mischief2

I believe that the rotation for the temp 5th starter will be open and the Marlins should give Mike Nannine a shot. He was a starter at Triple A last year and had a 3.6 something ERA and had a good stikeout per innings pitch ratio.

Beckett

Penny

Willis

Pavano

Oliver

i like the idea of having soft tosser Oliver going the day before Josh. makes his 95 look like 105 :thumbup

but who sais Oliver is a lock for the rotation? we have some arms ready to compete in ST

Beckett

Penny

Willis

Maels Rodriguez

Pavano

if maels ever had a chance in the first place, it's all gone now

I do think Oliver going between Pavano and Beckett would be a very good thing for all pitchers because of the reason you sighted. I think Redman may have had more K's when he was pitching after/before Penny or Beckett. Hmm...that would be an interesting stat to look up...

in my mind it really doesnt matter what oder they're in. but i guess for traditional purposes let beckett pitch open day. but other than that in my mind it really doesnt matter.

No, Jrod, it does matter. I got to disagree. The reason why is in baseball everything is about timing. You throw off hitters timing, you increase your effectiveness. Like a good changeup following a live fastball, you can set up your pitchers in a rotation. Like Willis' delivery following Penny's smooth delivery would give hitters a fuss. And Oliver following Pavano would help slightly increase the appearance of his fastball and also make Beckett look like he is throwing fireballs. Oliver's fastball about 88-90 while Beckett can be 95-99. That is a big difference and will keep opposing hitters off balance.

The question in my mind is will Pavano's solid fastball 90-92 be able to set up Oliver's repetoire? I think so. Pavano is an excellent pitcher who is learning how to pitch and coming into his own now. Oliver is a vet who, despite a high career ERA, wins ball games. I think pitching in JRS for half his season will only help his numbers.

Maybe you see, maybe you dont. But I think that this is certainly the Marlins thinking as well - keep hitters off balance and guessing. In fact, I would be very curious to see what Redman's K totals when following a flamethrowing starter. He had a career high 151 (previous high, 117).

why do you think we were able to get to the cubbies late in that series?

one reason.

all their starters throw hard and are righties.

the hitters were able to get the timing down.

thats why junkballing lefties are able to be so valuable. look at jaime moyer.

hell look at maddux in the glory days.

maddux, glavine, smoltz.

all three are very different pitchers.

thats why you HAVE to put willis in the 3 hole and if oliver is your 5th starter thats perfect.

its all about a mix and being able to throw off hitters.

age old idea.

Beckett

Pavano

Willis

Penny

Oliver and then Burnett

Wouldn't wanna see 3 righties and then 2 lefties.

Rotation should be in better hands with Redmond catching. Redmond is better handler of pitchers than Pudge. Knock on Pudge is he isn't much for handling pitchers. Staff is in better hands now that Pudge is bye bye bye. :hat The champ

Pudge seemed to handle the pitchers pretty well last year. And you think Redmond will start over Castro (assuming his legal troubles are behind him)?

Pudge seemed to handle the pitchers pretty well last year. And you think Redmond will start over Castro (assuming his legal troubles are behind him)? Redmond has the inside edge. Both will get about 80 starts. Maybe an 85-75 breakdown. Pudge wasn't much of a factor handling the pitchers. They were in good hands with Rosenthal/McKeon. :hat The champ

McKeon and Rosenthal, who you credit more than Pudge, are still there.

You don't understand how much Pudge was into being a STAR. Redmond actually talks pitching with the pitchers. Pudge talks about being Pudge. :hat The champ
