Inspite of losing DLee, Pudge, and Redman, could the Marlins go all the way again this season? In my opinion i would say i dont know because they lost good players but they still have the talent to do it, but it would be a little more challanging then last year. What do you think.

The potential is definately there without a doubt. I think we have just as good, if not better, a shot though for 04. Sure Pudge is gone and the baseball world seems to think he carried the team all season when it was in fact mainly the NLCS. Someone else on this talented team is sure to step up and replace the intensity that Pudge brought to the lineup. I'm definately excited thats for sure.

They need to be focused this year. They might be feeling a little relaxed because they're the World Champs. Although they have been some changes with players, I think they will do a good job this year.

Losing Redman was nullified by the addition of Oliver, who is just as good and far less money. Marlins are better at closer with Benitez and Fox is better setup than Vlady Nunez was to start the season. Repeating in any sport is difficult. If we get Cordero, the team will be solid in all phases. Pudge's loss won't be that great since he wasn't going to play 144 games this year anyway. Pudge will become a DH in the AL. So losing Pudge isn't that big a deal. Conine is better in left than Hollandsworth was to start last year. Cabrera is better than Encarnacion. Team is solid is all areas. Repeat is possible. Can't say automatic because you can't foresee injuries. I do foresee Burnett providing a lift late in the season the way Beckett did. I think Burnett is the key to the season. If he is strong down the stretch, watch out.

By the way, getting rid of Redman allowed Marlins to keep Burnett too. So think of it, Marlins get Burnett/Oliver for 3.250 mil. Redman signs for 3.9. Brilliant moves by Beinfest. Maybe Billy Beane should think more like the Marlins GM. Then he may actually figure out how to win in the playoffs.

I think the marlins are great every year but last year I felt this feeling that I haven't felt since O let's say 97....and also this year I am getting a little tingle and it feels good. I really hope we can do it again even though it will be harder.

Pudge is a big loss but I think Castro will do just great.

Dlee huge lost and that damn chink better step up.

Also redman loss hurts but that's ok cuz now we got oliver and burnett will be healthy.

Also beckett is starting to grow into his true awesome potential.

DTRAIN will get rolling again and even though we lost urbina I think benitez finally will start performing like he can and cabs also has grown up.

The operative phrase is "just as good" , and nothing could be farther from the truth. Comparing Redman's relative value to Oliver's based on price would be like saying five day old fish are "just as good" as fresh fish because one cost $6.00 per lb and other 25 cents per pound.

 

Beinfest didn't sign Oliver because he was "just as good" as Redman but cheaper. He got him because he was still available and cheap and could eat up innings. And without a sizable investment at risk, he could dump him and move on if the guy didn't produce.

 

You can try and throw an AJ into the mix to disguise your misstatement, you can amplify on your comments until they are virtually unrecognizable, but the fact is you're wrong about comparing Redman to Oliver, just as you wrong to suggest Admin Beinfest out-smarted Billy Beane by picking up this guy.
