  1. 18 year olds out of high school almost never "dominate" the GCL. The more important thing than their basic numbers are whether they are holding their own against older competition and all of them did. Banfield was supposedly fantastic defensively and decent enough with the bat to earn a promotion. Johnson is 17 fucking years old and more than held his own at the plate, and Connor Scott's overall numbers were brought down by a bad start but absolutely raked the last few weeks, and he was drawing walks the entire time even during his struggles which indicates that he was falling into bad luck with a small sample size. He started 4-43 but had 8 walks in that time and went on to hit 19/60 the remainder of his time in the GCL. They arent being rushed because they are just giving those 3 guys a taste of what to expect when they start the year in greensboro next year, which is normal.
  2. I said two guys worst case scenarios are dominant relievers. As 2 high profile minor league starters with perhaps the 2 fastest fastballs in the minors, thats not going out on a limb. Im not sure what role you think jeter has. He isnt making decisions on when to promote minor leaguers. You can be rushed at 23 (which is what he was in spring). It was clear he had a ton of potential but also that his AAA numbers in colorado last year were inflated and his impressive spring stats came with terrible peripherals that made it pretty obvious he was going to struggle. I said that all spring.
  3. Ive looked at the numbers. They were doing fine in their previous level despite being super young and are continuing their success at young age at an even higher level in greensboro. It is obviously super early, but the initial returns have been incredibly encouraging. Alcantara is a dominant closer at worst because he has been consistent as a starter throughout the minors and his fastball and secondary stuff will play up even more out of the big league bullpen. And no, everyone doesnt agree that were still in the bottom third of baseball in regards to farm systems. Also, the big league team isnt running dry on talent. We are actually set up quite well for the future for year 1 of a long term rebuild.
  4. Ericks negativity is constant. They have done a great job since they took over in acquiring talent both in trades and the draft and are doing their best and actually attempting to get involved in the IFA market even though they got to the negotiating table with this years batch of players late. Alcantara is a mid rotation guy and a dominant closer at worst. Brinson struggled but he should never have been in the big leagues and that ws obvious from the start. At the very least when he puts it together he will be an .800 OPS guy with low OBP but high slugging and 25-30 hr's. He has potential to be a perennial all star. harrison has struggled this year but will still finish with 20 hr's, 30 steals, great defense, a cannon arm, and an inevitable improvement in his K numbers with more experience. He barely played in high A ball before we rushed him to AA and he hasnt been great with all the K's but he has shown the potential to be a 20/20 guy in RF for years to come. Neidert has been terrific and is another mid rotation guy under team control long term. By all accounts we absolutely crushed the early rounds of the draft this year and actually spent money to acquire more talent for once. Isan Diaz is a 2b of the future who is a perfect fit for modern day baseball with left handed power, as well as high K's but also an incredible amount of walks. Devers has held his own despite being ridiculously young for his league. Yamamoto was great, he just has had a few injuries but he too is at worst a good middle reliever. Christopher Torres in the dee gordon deal on top of Neidert was an absolute steal. Mags sierra has struggled this year but he can spend all of next year in AAA and still be just 23 and if you actually dive into his numbers for his career he has struggled to hit at the beginning of each level he has been at before inevitably turning it around and becoming a quality hitter. Why they are rushing him is beyond me, but him struggling given his lack of experience and style of hitting shouldnt be surprising. Guzman has been dissappointing as a starter this year with his control but his starts generally are not him being constantly hit around, they are him running out of gas in later innings of his start and his numbers not accurately reflecting how dominant his stuff is relative to his competition. He is likely a reliever but he will be a dominant reliever at the very worst. All in all, you are being beyond overly negative and didnt know what to expect moving forward in a rebuild if you thought the only way it would be successful is if every prospect tore up the minors at every level absent of context that minor league results need to be viewed with.
  5. Dietrich and Barraclough to me make a lot of sense to deal together to a mid market team who is a contender but doesnt want to make an enormous move. Teams like the Brewers or Indians to me make so much sense.
  6. I see what you're saying, but there is a difference between the casual fan seeing one in the store and liking it as a cheap gimmick and going out and spending a sunday buying tickets and food and going out to the ballpark just to get the bobblehead.
  7. Oh dont get me wrong i have no problem with gimmicks like this as the new regime is trying to experiment with different things, i just dont think its going to move the needle much. but id love to be wrong about it.
  8. I also dont think it would be risking much in terms of prospects. There are quite a few teams with money left over and there arent very many big IFA guys any more so teams like the Cubs and Dodgers and yankees/sox might be wiling to part with some money rather than giving up borderline prospects for guys like Maybin, Ziegler, maybe even a holaday. We wont be getting much for most of those guys anyways. I wasnt referring to taking lesser packages for some of our bigger trade assets.
  9. Supposedly the orioles might have signed a few IFA guys that they havent announced yet to bring it a little closer as well as the no state income tax thing. I think the orioles for sure will end up with the most but we can do some things to make it relatively close and then try to sell the Cuban/latin population down here. How many times can we possibly strike out on cuban guys? We've been in on how many different ones and failed to meet the price? Granted its a different regime but we've got to be able to sell the little havana thing to at least one of these guys eventually, right? I wouldnt blame the front office in this scenario however as they are clearly putting more of an emphasis on IFA which is long overdue.
  10. The attendance today was only like 500 more than yesterday so its possible but id view it as unlikely. I think it was mostly due to the team we were playing. Just my opinion, but its pretty obvious that any team in this market will be supported when they succeed and wont be supported (attendance wise) when they dont. Its the same with every team in this market so we might just live in a very fair weather market. They can and will try little things to eek out every last fan at the gates going forward, but I think its very unlikely that we do anything off the field that will significantly impact that, aside from maybe a showing from the front office that the team will be built and maintained differently moving forward.
  11. I really have a hard time thinking a statistically significant amount of people were swayed by a pitbull bobblehead. Also, have we completely given up on making bobbleheads of players until we know who will be here long term? Cause first it was the sandlot bobblehead day and now pitbull and maybe its just my sensibilities but i think those giveaways are god awful.
  12. There needs to be 3 goals for the marlins at the deadline. 1- Sell high on Ziegler, Barraclough, and likely Conley. Front office needs to show they "get it" compared to the last regime and understand the relative value of relievers with how easy they are to find and the value you can get for Ziegler who is pitching well and Barraclough and Conley who either are at the height of their value (Barraclough) or could ave higher value in a year but could also completely fall apart and get nothing for them in the future (Conley.) . Steckenrider you keep because he has been less effective as of late and you can do the same thing with him at the deadline next year that we did with Barraclough this year and hipe that he pitches well and a team will foolishly value him higher just because he has a few saves prior to the deadline. 2- If you sell on JT before extension talks in the offseason you need to get Robles AND Kieboom. Anything less than that and you just hold on to him, let him finish his career year as the best catcher in baseball and 2 years of remaining team control and then attempt to re-sign him in the offseason and if it doesnt work then you deal him because you'll have more teams in the bidding. 3- Get as much IFA cash as humanly possible. Even if it means getting a lesser prospect for some of our lesser assets. The marlins have a legitimate chance as signing Victor Victor Mesa out of cuba and he is a legit 5 tool player who going by his twitter likes really wants to play here and might just be praying that the marlins can make the cash at all close to the team with the highest amount of IFA cash, that being the Orioles. Im telling you, I think we're getting him if we can acquire just a little more cash. Go look at his twitter likes. Its a stupid way to read into something, but there is a ton of marlins likes and very few likes of stuff relating to any other team. Other than that, only deal Straily, Urena, Bour, etc if you get really good value, and then deal Dietrich for the best possible return. If not, keep them as they are solid 2-3 WAR guys with years of team control left. Then spend the rest of the year evaluating guys like Lopez, Alcantara, Brinson, Austin Dean, Richards, and Jarlin.
  13. Agreed. The only reason they should see themselves as buyers is that they have underachieved like crazy and maybe want to make one last run with Harper. Other than that, its clear they arent good enough and that they are too far back at this point. They have significantly underachieved though all over the board between Turner, Harper, Murphy returning from injury, Zimmerman coming off a good year, Eaton getting hurt and missing some time again, and Robles getting hurt and not being able to contribute as of yet.

    Barraclough

Doesnt help that our bullpen depth right now is nonexistent. Guys like Graves, Meyer, and Hernandez taking up roster spots. Wittgren being in AAA makes no sense to me.
  15. Shame this guys year never really got going. He could have been useful as a RF/LF/1b getting playing time instead of Maybin
  16. JT is the best catcher in the league as of right now. He holds this franchise hostage until he decides one way or another to re-sign or not. And im cool with the marlins waiting until next spring to find out if he will because if he does decide to re-sign, that is a legit superstar talent at a premium position that decides to be one of the building blocks long term.
  17. Diaz is a future lefty dan uggla type long term 2b for us. High k's, high bb's, good power for the 2b position and not known for his glove. Jason Kipnis is an interesting comp for him.
  18. Fuck Jorge Mas. Guy was going to do almost the same thing as Jeter and didnt have the money he claimed to have according to just about every person with knowledge of his financial situation and he's been trying to talk shit about the marlins and mlb since he got denied. Im admittedly not a soccer fan, but holy shit i cannot wait until this mls miami thing is out of the news. Either make it happen or dont. Enough of the going back and forth.
  19. Ya the Coors field renovation is a good example of what we can potentially do. There is no need for all those upper deck RF seats. Im not saying get rid of all of them, but renovate it to add a cool little bar/restaurant standing room only kind of place. Im telling you as someone who has a bunch of friends who hate baseball but wouldnt mind going to something like the braves or rockies bar thing in the outfield. Maybe im in the minority, but to me the clevelander just stinks. It needed to be in a place where you can see the whole game easily from the entire area. Unless you have seats there its hard to see the game well and other than the club style music theres just nothing special or fun about the clevelander to me.
  20. Maybe im just being pessimistic, but the area the ballpark is in really just sucks. Ive visited a bunch of the best ballparks in baseball, the most recent being the new braves stadium last year, and they are all in either good areas or built a cool area around the ballpark to hangout. I guess the clevelander is ok, but its nothing special other than an expensive bar with loud music and a pretty shitty view of the game but thats it around the ballpark aside from the budweiser bar thing which I personally like more than the clevelander. Once you leave the ballpark and go to the garages there is nothing around the stadium and its in a bad area. Unless we start winning and start getting fans out consistently, i think we are gonna have a hard time getting the experience that fans have at other ballparks in order to consistently attract those fans that dont care about baseball but are just trying to have a good time. One thing id be interested in seeing is either in the upper deck in the foul territory on either side or in the RF upper deck seats creating a bunch of standing room only bars similar to what the Braves have in their new park if you look up their outlay of their ballpark. Might not be the biggest change and it may reduce our overall capacity (though who cares about that), but from a 24 year olds perspective and knowing the perspective of people my age, there is a notable difference between having drinks behind the plate and sitting down in normal seats and actually having to watch a full 9 inning baseball game and just getting to roam in a bar style atmosphere in the outfield, as stupid as that distinction may be because us millennials are stupid. Long rambling post made shorter: there is nothing around the ballpark and the clevelander as the main attraction sucks.
  21. Expectations are everything so its hard to compare to recent years, but ya i enjoy this team. Infinitely less without Brinson as I like to see him out there and improving rather than Maybin being terrible, but I enjoy following the minors day to day much more when the front office isnt subject to the daily whims of IMO a top 5 worst owner in sports but rather a front office led by proven leaders who are running the organization in a way that a small market team should be run Im fine if people disagree, but im 100% fine with this team being bad in the future so long as they try to build the team the right way. Process is always much more important than the result, and we are finally building a team with the right process. That doesnt mean winning is guaranteed, but ill take doing it the right way over getting lucky building a team in a stupid way and sneaking into the playoffs and getting eliminated in the wild card round.
  22. Damn, at least this non contender out of every team we've had since 2003 actually has a smart building plan (or any plan at all for that matter) that makes sense for this market and isnt subject to the daily whims of a moron owner. Also, this isnt the NBA where getting the #1/2 pick is a must. If youre still picking in the top 5 youll get a great prospect.
  23. I havent been to a game yet this year, what is everyones opinion on the ballpark experience and how does it compare to the past? Ill be going to games when i get back to miami in a few weeks.
  24. Fuck i forgot, my bad. I deserve it. If i throw in a fuck jeter am i good?
