  1. Norby to IL, Pauley back up. Pauley was hitting pretty well in AAA.
  2. Price generally has no bearing on the draft. Teams get X amount to spend and they all spend it. How they juggle the bonuses within the draft is another matter.
  3. 44-51 heading into the All-Star break. Two breakout stars in Stowers and Ramirez. And Janson F'in Junk. Trust the process.
  4. First three rounds on Sunday 7/13, rounds 4-20 on Monday 7/14. Very important draft for the Marlins. Last year's returns are mixed at best so far. The Marlins were unlucky in the lottery and fell to 7th in the draft despite having the third worst record. The Marlins have overall picks #7, #43 (Competitive Balance), #46, and #78 in the first three rounds on Sunday. After that they will have the third pick in rounds 4-20. If form holds, Bendix and Co. will go for a HS middle infielder. They cover Eli Willits (son of big league Reggie Willits), but rumors are he will go higher perhaps even #1. Other names being linked with the Fish are HS SS Billy Carlson, HS SS Jo Jo Parker, and CBB C/1B Ike Irish. My hunch is that they will end up taking Jo Jo Parker if Willits is off the board. There are 7 really good prospects in this year's draft so if any of them fall unexpectedly into the Marlins lap they could be tapped as well. Those 7 are Ethan Holllday, Kade Anderson, Seth Hernandez, Liam Doyle, Willits, Aiva Arguette, and Jamie Arnold. Right now MLB has our projected picks at #7 Billy Carlson, #43 Alex Lodise (SS- FSU), #46 Matthew Fisher (HS-P), and #78 Gavin Turley (OF-Ore. St.) Of course a lot depends on signability and bonus slotting as well as players dropping unexpectedly. The Fish need to hit a home run at #7 even if it takes several years of development. Three picks in the top 50 can set up a good base for the future. History has not been on the Marlins side as we have been more miss than hit, but hopefully the emphasis on analytics and scouting will pay off.
  5. Jacksonville is competing for the playoffs so they will probably keep the core together until September. That might not be the best reason though. When the Marlins are officially out of it could make for some tough calls. Definitely think Johnston deserves some at bats after/if they finish the playoffs. He is not part of the future but he deserves to be able to say he played in the big leagues based on his service time and results. Would be the right/classy thing to do.
  6. Cabrera MRI results Incoming. Brace for the news
  7. He's been pretty good at AAA. Cut down on his K's and has an OPS over .900. It was painful to watch him and likely the outcome will be the same but Wagaman isn't exactly lighting it up either. Yea or Nay?
  8. Janson Junk exceeding everyone's wildest expectations is amazing to watch. Don't know how long he can keep it up but hope he keeps proving the doubters wrong. Nice to see Trevor pitching well again after struggling big time, even if it is with another team. Sadly though he probably won't overcome the wog mush now that he has been anointed.
  9. Guess the Cabrera trade rumors are moot now. He is hurt, elbow.
  10. Well, Eddy has elbow pain. The only good news is its on the outside not the inside of the elbow. So much for that.
  11. I think we've gone from 26th to the 14th to 16th range. A lot of the rookie level pitchers won't develop but with the sheer numbers (remember 10 years ago we didn't have any viable rookie players, so we've made progress) but if a couple do they could be huge. The last top 10 overall guy we had was Eury and we have like 7 or 8 guys with his potential right now. We also completely suck at drafting. Our first round picks going back to 2000, and in particular top 10 picks, are absolutely atrocious. Bust after bust. Have to improve in that area. Our hitting development has been horrific as well. We have traded for a lot of our bat prospects and invested in a lot of the areas we need to in order to improve that aspect. Most free agents signings are a waste of resources and have a negative impact due to their age. Unless we are in on a guy like Soto or a guy in or nearing his prime, it's pointless. We want to avoid long, bad contracts like Willy Adames or Anthony Santander even though the casual fans cry when we don't sign them (or Avisail or Chen for that matter). The free agency argument is pointless while Sherman owns the team anyway since he won't spend the money. That is out of our control and beating a dead horse anyway. Here's our top ten picks going back to 2000: Kyle Skipworth Andrew Heaney Colin Moran Tyler F'in Kolek JJ Bleday Max Meyer Jacob Berry Pretty epic fail there.
  12. Robby Snelling made his AAA debut for us yesterday for Jacksonville. 5 ip, 4 hits, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts, 0 runs. Apparently, FanGraphs hates Snelling. He's ranked 20th in our system in their latest rankings.
  13. Our "ace" is getting shelled. At least he's not walking anybody.
  14. We might have the deepest pitching depth in the minors in all of baseball. They might be a few years away but the pitching and defense is exactly what they are emphasizing for the future. Thomas White, Mazur, Snelling, Dax, Josh White, Ekness, Belgrave all at AA or better. Noble, Dishmey, Liomar, Milbrandt, May, Payne, Shepardson, the list goes on and on. That's not even mentioning the guys in FCL and DSL that are absolute units. We also have four guys on the cusp of the majors in AAA that will be upgrades both offensively and defensively. Marsee, Mack, Acosta, and Pauley. That's not even mentioning DDLS. All have been hitting at high levels the past month or months. Rome wasn't built in a day. You have to build the foundation before you build the house.
  15. Ugh. No words. Just turned the game off. Sickening to watch.
  16. A fun fact would be Lake Bachar was a division 3 national champion kicker/punter in football. A boring fact would be Lake Bachar is actually Adam Driver cosplaying as a reliever.
  17. We have two and neither one is really very good. But point taken. Bigger question is why use both? Just let KTPPJIV finish it.
  18. I could count the number of great Stallings Marlin moments on Mordecai Three Finger Brown's hand and still have fingers left over.
  19. It's so cringe watching these position players pitch. Hate it when the Marlins do it, hate it right now. Teams should get fined for doing this.
  20. A little apprehensive looking ahead to Sandy's start tomorrow. Don't let the Reds on the base paths. Only looking forward to Kelly Saco say Sandy Alcantarrrrrrra. Also, she is the only person in the northern hemisphere that knows how to correctly pronounce Eury's name. Good job Kelly.
  21. They really should have a running gag where Kyle Sielaff is oblivious to anything in pop culture non-baseball related. How bout that Britney Spears? Kyle: Who Britney Spears Kyle: Does he play for Beloit? No Hit me baby one more time Kyle: Oh you mean Yiddi Cappe. Anyway, have you seen the new Star Wars? Kyle: Kyle Stowers Kylo-Ren? Kyle: Yes he wins, he's an all-star. Sigh.
  22. Catcher pitching for the Reds. They really should have a name for this when teams wave the flag like this. Maybe Ultimate Surrender. On second thought don't Google that.
  23. Perfect spot for Kyle Tyler Phllip Phillips Jr, the IV TM, computer-generated player from MLB the Show. He can try to develop a second pitch while filling in the George Soriano/Laurbert Arias low leverage spot. Need low leverage pitching? Call Kyle Tyler Phillip Phillps Jr. the IV TM. Come on down and see Kyle Tyler Phillip Phillips Jr, the IV TM today for a deal you can't pass up.
  24. He is. Was using a metaphor. Although the Orioles are up after the Reds and with the way we are hitting, Who knows? Also, former Marlin farmhand (and 2nd round pick) Will Banfield is with the Reds AAA team. Still pretty good defensively, still scuffling at the plate. (We will always have 2023 Pensacola, Banfield)
