Bowden recently posted an article on The Athletic proposing this trade:

Sandy Alcantara to the Cubs for RHP Cade Horton, OF Owen Caissie, OF Kelvin Alcantara, and SS Ronny Cruz.

Im really not excited about yet ANOTHER rebuild. 3-4 years ago we were salivating at the prospect of our future rotation of Sandy, Eury, Cabrera, Eder, and Luzardo and now look where we are. Two of them got traded for nothing that is currently (or possibly ever) helping the team, Sandy imploded, Eury is a possibility of dealing with those same struggles and people are talking about trading Cabrera? Bullshit come on

Meanwhile they keep traipsing Sanchez, Wagaman, Otto Lopez, and Heriberto Hernandez out there instead of going and picking up actual baseball players that weren’t generated by Bendix Road to the Show account. What’s the point, there is never a resolution. And they fall a little flat like the 2023 team and instead of doubling down with reinforcements in that offseason they gave up and traded everyone away. Fuck em all

the timeline for this team to get to .500 is 2028 at the earliest. Unfortunately, that’s only lens we should view all moves through.

in the short term, it’s have as little payroll as possible and trade any guys that are above 7-figure salaries

Marlins top 10 hitting prospects OPS (per the mlb list)

Caba (Low A/Hurt) .631

Mack (In 42 games Since moved to AAA) .599

Salas (Low A) .611

Morlando (Low A/16 Career Games) .700

Head (Low A) .631

Johnson (Low A) .555

Alderman (AA) .767

DDLS (AAA) .716

Serna (AA) .552

Vargas (Hi A) .528

Bruce is drooling over how he wont have to pay any of these clowns.

Not to make excuses but here are 2 excuses/reasons:

1) Most of those guys are playing well above their level for their age.

2) All our affiliates but Beloit are based in Florida where average and power numbers have a significant negative impact.

That being said, it is disappointing to see their output thus far. Acosta and Vargas have been playing better lately, but dug a big hole with their starts.

As for Sherman, it is beating a dead horse at this point. No one likes him including me, it is what it is, and the model we are following is necessary given his monetary constraints.

That would be an absolute massive overpay from the Cubs we would do this trade yesterday if it was real. Horton alone would be an overpay but their 1,3,4 prospects. Not a chance.

Best hope is Cubs, jays, giants panic buy but this return is only setting up disappointment if we think we are getting anything near that

Uhhhh, more than half this team’s games get played in Florida so if anything it’s further proof that they’re fucked, not an excuse lol

Agree with TMP overpay by cubs. The key part to the Sandy return is will marlins cover any of his salary and we all likely know the answer to that.

If the marlins were a serious franchise committed to winning they’d trade Sandy and cover rest his contract this year and next to truly get a great return. Im sure daddy dix would love to do this, but this is Sherman’s team.

What’s most likely going happen is they won’t eat any of his salary, get back a few 40FV guys with low to mid ceilings, and pay zero his remaining contract and say they’re investing it in another weight room

What are these guys WRCs? That’s a better metric cause it compares them to everyone else in their league.

Sadly, it just means more time to not pay attention to them. I'm certainly not giving them any money by going to a game. They've destroyed the trust, and I won't support it anymore.

He needs to sell the team and count money on his couch so that we can get a real owner down here.

Actually funny that you mention this.....

They are actually working on expanding the Marlins' clubhouse and moving a kitchen to accommodate it (along with some other smaller rooms).

  • 3 weeks later...

Do we think Cabrera is getting dealt? Or will having him under club control through 2028 keep him on the roster?

My thinking is that the Marlins will field offers, and if they get a good enough return, they will trade him. His value is INSANE right now.

I’d prefer they keep him! Team maybe not so bad next year after all and could be a critical rotation piece

@pollythewog you laughed at this comment, I was being serious about the clubhouse expansion and kitchen moving - my company bid on the project.

I'm torn on this one. I was on the ship him out train for a while, but he seems to have turned a corner, so there's logic in keeping and trying to extend him to a team-friendly deal. On the flip side, if you can capitalize on his high trade value now for a big haul (a typical Rays move), there's also logic there.

I guess what it'll come down to is when Bendix is targeting for a competitive timeline?

If he's not targeting the team being competitive until 2028 or beyond and have no plans to extend him, it might be more advantageous to get max value now with how he's performing and teams needing pitching at the deadline.

If he's targeting a sooner window, it might be worth keeping him.

Always trade everyone

The Mets are reportedly interested in Cabrera.

with as good as he's been of late he should demand a hefty ransom if someone wants to trade for him. We've ALWAYS known the pure stuff can be incredible from him but this is the only time he's had an extended period where he's been living up to his potential. I'm hesitant to trust him and keep him going forward though because he's just been so underwhelming for his tenure here.

If we trade him - this hot stretch won't have been a mirage and he'll dominate for years to come.

If we keep him - he'll need TJ surgery or regress to what he always was or both lol.

Those will be the two outcomes. They should listen to offers though and seriously consider moving him if they can extract a blue chip prospect from someone in exchange. His career body of work says this is not him.

Yup, given it's the Marlins, sounds about right how it'll go.

I'd agree that if we can get a big haul for him, go ahead and do it.

I'm less concerned about the career body of work and more concerned about his injury history.

It seems like he has harnessed his control this year, which was always his biggest problem. He has frontline stuff if he can keep the walks down.
