Gammons on Boog show at 3:00
Is the Marlins' thought process now, hang on and see what happens before making a move? Gammons: If a team could offer a package of a pitcher who's 75-80% of AJ, a reliever, and someone who could help them in the future, they would probably make the deal. But barring that, they are still in the race. They are not in f******e mode. -Bad blood between the ownership of the Marlins and Red Sox hindering talks on any Burnett deal there. -White Sox still in the conversation, but it's unknown if they'd be willing to give up a package of Marte, McCarthy, Anderson when AJ probably would still go to free agency. 875075 Then why cant the Marlins trade with the Orioles. Julio is the reliever, Penn helps in the future and Ponson is about 300% of Burnett. 875141 Ponson is 300% of the size, headache and horrible pitcher compared to AJ Is the Marlins' thought process now, hang on and see what happens before making a move? SmackDown! Getting Axed!?
As was previously reported a while back on that source: Smackdown! is moving its timeslot to Friday's at 8 p.m., which the WWE is very upset about...they are now looking for a new smackdown carrier but have not found one yet. UPN has one year left on its deal with the WWE As for CM Punk, he wrestled last night in a Heat/Dark match and has two more appearences with ROH on 8/12 and 8/13 before he can commit full-time to his developmental deal...and with his skills and personality he won't be is OVW for long. On Hassan, it sucks for him that he was just starting to get over and now he has no-where and I mean no-where to go...he will be sent back to OVW to be re-packaged but who knows what if anything WWE creative can come up with for him

Tampa Bay Moves
Right-hander Hideo Nomo was released Monday by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Nomo, who will turn 37 next month, has said he won't pitch in Japan if he isn't signed by another major league team. He went 5-8 with a 7.24 ERA in 19 starts. The first Japanese-born player to appear in the majors after playing at the top level in Japan, Nomo has a record of 123-109 in a career that began when he was the 1995 NL Rookie of the Year for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Nomo had been designated for assignment July 16, one day after lasting just 2 2-3 innings in an 11-6 loss to Toronto. He allowed seven runs and nine hits with three walks in what turned out to be his final Tampa Bay appearance. ??We enjoyed having Hideo here,'' Devil Rays manager Lou Piniella said. ??He is really a true professional ... a good influence with his work ethic on the young pitchers that we have here. It got to the point really where the whole focus here has been young. We're trying to develop young pitchers.'' The Devil Rays also reinstated pitcher Doug Waechter from the 15-day disabled to start Monday night's game against Boston. He has been out with tendinitis in his right index finger. To make room for Waechter, infielder Fernando Cortez was optioned to Triple-A Durham. Source: AP

J. Lopez activated
Javy Lopez returned from a two-month stay on the disabled list Monday, eager to provide additional punch to the Baltimore Orioles' struggling offense. Lopez broke his right hand on May 24 during a 3-2 victory over Seattle. The catcher went on the disabled list the following day, and Baltimore went 22-31 without him. The Orioles (50-47) entered Monday night's game against Texas mired in a five-game losing streak that included four games in which they scored just two runs. ??I'm just hoping that I can bring that missing piece to the team, and can motivate and help them defensively and offensively. That's my main goal here,'' Lopez said. ??Hopefully, I can bring a change.'' Sal Fasano, who's hitting .250 with nine homers, played well in place of Lopez. But the Orioles' lineup is more of a threat with Lopez, who was batting .278 with seven homers and 22 RBIs at the time of the injury. ??Fasano did a great job for us, but Javy will fit right into the middle of the lineup,'' outfielder Admin Bigbie said. Baltimore manager Lee Mazzilli said, ??Putting Javy in there kind of balanced out the lineup. It's been a while since I've had my regular guys.'' Lopez, who batted sixth Monday against the Rangers, hoped to have the same positive effect that Sammy Sosa did when he returned earlier this season from a 16-game stay on the disabled list. ??When Sosa went on the DL, the team kind of needed him. When he got back in the lineup, the team had a totally different spirit and totally different energy,'' he said. ??That's what I'm hoping to bring to the team from now on, so we can do a quick turnaround.'' To make room for Lopez on the 25-man roster, the Orioles optioned catcher Eli Whiteside to Triple-A Ottawa. Whiteside hit .375 over eight games during his first trip to the majors. ??It was a great experience, even though I didn't play much,'' he said, recalling his first trip to Yankee Stadium and initial big-league start, at home against Boston. ??Hopefully, it will be beneficial when I come back.'' Additional Marlins Rumors
Would love to drop lowell and AJ to them for Santana and a combination of relief help and perhaps someone like Morales (cuban defector), Brandon Wood (SS prospect with power) Something along those lines. 873876 As much as Im against trading Mikey....if the angels would be stupid enough to put some package like that together i would jump at it...even though I don't think Morales, who they paid a bunch of money for, would be on the market

Vargas vs Duke would be more interesting.... Oh well. Keep the bats hot this series & we'll be fine. 873803 So is Vargas officially in the bullpen i suppose with the move of Valdez back into the rotation and the demotion of Olsen back Carolina??? why would they waste this kid in the pen, unless they are going to send him down on Tuesday when they activate AA???

Cubs' Wood to miss at least one-start
Kerry Wood will miss at least one start after getting a cortisone shot Thursday in his aching right shoulder, which has forced him onto the disabled list once already this season. Wood lasted only three innings in the Chicago Cubs' 9-3 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night, giving up three solo homers. His shoulder was stiff and his fastball subpar. Wood was examined Thursday by Dr. Tim Kremchek, who consulted with a Cubs' doctor before giving the injection. Wood will rest the shoulder for a couple of days before seeing whether the cortisone gets rid of the inflammation and pain and allows him to keep pitching. ??It's frustrating, especially with the amount of time I've missed,'' said Wood, who was on the disabled list from May 3 to June 29 with a sore shoulder. ??So we got the shot, went with a little more aggressive treatment this time. We'll see if that will take care of it.'' Source: AP

If Burnett stays a Marlin?
if he stays a marlin then we can still make a solid run. We still will need bullpen help though. 867418 I don't think bullpen help is that much necessary with AA returning healthy and Valdez as either spot starter/long reliever....that is two arms that you didn't have for a long long time...
