Pitcher Todd Jones a revelation for Marlins
Chad Cordero, but even he has been lucky ALOT this season. excellent point!! 904270 Not at all. He's pitched more times with a 1-run lead than Jones and I bet anyone. As a result his shaky outings, which Jones has had too, seem more dangerous. 904287 and one final quick comparison between Cordero and Jones for the season Jones 1-4, 23 saves (25 chances) (2 tough, 2 blown) Cordero 2-3, 36 saves (40 chances) (0 tough, 4 BLOWN)

Alex Gonzalez
I'll take this year's Alex, even though I miss his OFFENSIVE outburst/Career year last season. His BA/OBP is going up and his defense has been better I think this year than last. In the eight spot he is doing just enough, cause you have to remember out of our five-man rotation...3 or 4 out of the 5 can hit average to above average (Vargas, Willis, AJ and Josh)

Pitcher Todd Jones a revelation for Marlins
So much hype for a guy whose job it is not allow between 4 to 12 total bases in 1 inning. Good pitcher. He does the job he's asked to do. Just saying, he is not a key member of the bullpen and certainly not it's MVP. His playing time is too infrequent and rarely at crucial points of the game. 904142 WOW....I never thought I would see so much ignorance from a so-called Marlins Fan.... Saying that Jones isn't a key member of the bullpen is like saying that Miguel Cabrera and Carlos Delgado aren't key members of the offensive unit of this squad. If it were not for Jones this team would be 12-15 games below .500 compared to the 6 games above .500 that they are. Jones has done a job that he wasn't expected or counted on to do when spring camp broke this year. You can't ask for anymore from Jonesy...case in point last week Jack had him pitch 2 INNINGS...not many "Closers" can do that. But when the game is on the line I would take Jones out of the pen over anyone else in the NL East, with one exception being Chad Cordero, but even he has been lucky ALOT this season.

how about this 4 a lineup
This is the worst time to "shake things up." We're winning games, there's no sense in messing up the batting order. 903845 agreed :whistle

Mets sign Takatsu to minor-league deal
The Mets have signed pitcher Shingo Takatsu to a minor-league deal on Friday. Takatsu will report to Triple-A Norfolk today. Takatsu struggled this season, going 1-2 with a 5.97 ERA and eight saves in 31 games, but he had a 2.31 ERA and 19 saves in 2004. Takatsu's agent, Joe Urbon told the New York Post, "It's going to be a 21/2-week tryout," referring to the fact that playoff rosters have to be set by the end of August so now the mets can have two former closers - Graves, Takatsu - that others teams didn't want and you can make it three if you add Looper.

Rhodes agrees with WWE
Dusty Rhodes was on the phone right at the start of Byte This tonight. Todd Grisham said that Rhodes had come to a verbal agreement with WWE and Dusty said the agreement they came to was to "agree to talk again." He did talk about a legend's contract and said a stumbling block is him wanting to wrestle Ric Flair one more time, not on TV but at a house show. He also said he was impressed with the young creative minds at WWE and cannot wait to be involved creatively on the Great American Bash next year. Source: www.pwinsider.com

Need a quick rundown of Smackdown
Who won with Christian VS Batista? And yes, I'm assuming it was not a title match. 899719 WWE World champion Batista and Christian went for a little while, mainly Batista owning Christian, then Batista hits a spinebuster. He is going for the Batista Bomb when JBL comes out and interferes. Match is over, but it sets up the dark match main event which is a JBL vs. Batista Street fight, lasting about 5 minutes with Batista winning. Source: www.pwinsider.com

NBA Offseason Thread
The Los Angeles Lakers waived forward Brian Grant on Wednesday, taking advantage of a one-time provision to the NBA's new collective bargaining agreement that allows teams to save nearly $30 million in luxury tax penalties. Grant was part of the trade that sent Shaquille O'Neal to the Miami Heat last July. The Lakers acquired Grant, Lamar Odom, Caron Butler and a future first-round draft pick. Grant was the Lakers' second-highest paid player after Kobe Bryant and still is owed $29.8 million on his contract. He averaged a career-low 3.8 points and 3.7 rebounds last season while bothered by chronic tendinitis in his knees. He also had a neck injury in training camp and spent a month on the injured list because of the tendinitis. The Lakers will have to pay nearly all of Grant's remaining contract, even if the 33-year-old player signs with another team as a free agent. The Lakers will gain no additional salary cap flexibility until after the 2006-07 season, when Grant's contract expires. By removing Grant's salary from the NBA's luxury tax calculations, the Lakers benefit because the league assesses a dollar-for-dollar penalty for the amount teams spend over the luxury tax threshold, which will be $61.7 million for next season. ??This is a one-time opportunity to take advantage of this situation, and exercising this will give us greater roster flexibility and the ability to improve our team,'' Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said. I have nuttin to hold back, I though AJ pitched a gem and the young kids (Aguila and Treanor) and the savy veteran (Conine) have provided this team with a big lift with all the walking wounded this team has. Defending champion Kurt Busch leaving Roush Racing
UPDATE-UPDATE-UPDATE-UPDATE Reigning Nextel Cup champion Kurt Busch has signed a contract to drive for Penske Racing South in 2007 and asked to be released from his current contract with Roush Racing, apparently in hopes of replacing retiring Rusty Wallace next season. ??Yeah, we have signed him up for 2007,'' Penske team president Don Miller told The Associated Press on Tuesday. ??As for anything else, the lawyers tell us we can't really comment. We'll just have to see how things shake out. ??Kurt Busch is a great driver and Ryan (Newman) said he is looking forward to having him as a teammate and working with him.'' Newman is the current teammate of Wallace, the 1989 series champion, who is retiring at the end of the 2005 season, leaving a vacant seat in the No. 2 Dodge. Penske put out a statement saying Busch had signed a long-term contract. In its own statement, Roush said the team will wait for ??an indefinite period'' before making a decision on Busch's request to leave after this season. The team said it would have no additional comment on the split. Roush is in much the same situation as the Penske team, with Jamie McMurray, currently driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, signed for 2007 to replace Mark Martin, who is planning to retire at the end of this season. Ganassi has an option on McMurray in 2006 and has insisted he will not be let out of his contract. That leaves the No. 6 Ford without a driver for 2006, although Martin has said he would consider staying for another year if Jack Roush, his longtime boss, needs him. But Wallace, a part owner of the Penske team along with Roger Penske and Miller, has said repeatedly this will be his final year in the driver's seat. Busch stands fifth in this year's points race, 277 points behind leader Tony Stewart. After a slow start to his Cup defense, he has finished in the top 10 in five of his past six races, including Sunday's 10th-place finish in the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard in Indianapolis. With victories this season at Pocono and Phoenix, Busch seems a solid bet to be among the top 10 drivers in the points standings when NASCAR resets the field for its 10-race Chase for the Championship following the Sept. 10 race in Richmond, Va. Busch has been with Roush since 2000, when Jack Roush hired him to drive in the Craftsman Truck Series. He won four races that year and finished second in the points standings, leading Roush to move him straight to NASCAR's top series without the traditional intermediate stop on the second-tier Busch Series. He won his first Cup race in 2002 and had four wins that season. For his Cup career, Bush has 13 wins in 171 starts. Busch is one of five drivers racing in the Nextel Cup series for Roush. The others are Mark Martin, Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards. Busch, who turned 27 last week, was the third-youngest champion in NASCAR history when he won the title last season. He recently said he felt his team was poised to make a run for back-to-back titles, something no one has done since Jeff Gordon in 1997 and 1998. ??We're up to the challenge again,'' Busch said. ??At this point in the season, everybody feels a little bit of pressure to lay the hammer down a little bit harder.'' Busch has a history of feuds with rival drivers ? Jimmy Spencer punched him in the nose in 2003 ? and run-ins with NASCAR officials. Earlier this year, after a tantrum at Darlington that included expletives directed at NASCAR officials over his in-car radio, Busch was placed on unofficial probation by NASCAR and given notice that the sanctioning body would tolerate no more bad behavior. Ricky Williams: "I never really was away''
Ricky Williams wonders what all the fuss is about. Williams, who returned to the NFL on Monday night with a mediocre performance ? 8 yards on five carries ? in Miami's 27-24 loss to Chicago in the Hall of Fame game, made it sound as if he never left the sport. Was that one-year retirement in which he, well, dropped out, a mirage? ??It doesn't seem like I was gone, not even a week,'' the former NFL rushing king said. ??Everywhere I go, I hear 'Welcome back.' But everywhere I have been, I have always been with myself. I'm with myself now more than ever. ??It's funny people say 'Welcome back' when I haven't gone anywhere.'' He didn't go much of anywhere against the Bears, but it was the first of five preseason games and the Dolphins got their starters and second-stringers off the field pretty quickly. By the second half, Williams was relaxing on the sideline. But Williams will need a lot more work this summer because he must sit out the first four regular-season games under an NFL suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. So to be a factor this season, he'll need a lot more out of the preseason than he got against the Bears. Won't he? ??He looked fast, quick,'' coach Nick Saban said. ??I was impressed.'' He probably was in the minority. Williams never came close to breaking into the secondary. He was brought down easily when hit and slipped on one play where he had a little bit of running room. Yet Williams thought it went well, right from the first hit. ??You always think it is going to be worse than it is,'' he said. ??And usually when it happens, it is just a guy grabbing you. That's what it was. ??I honestly didn't feel like I had anything to get over with. To me, it was just another day.'' With first-round draft pick Ronnie Brown, chosen second overall, still holding out, Williams figures to get a lot more work in the coming practices and the next exhibition game, at Jacksonville on Saturday. The Dolphins also are trying to figure out their quarterbacking situation and solidify their offensive line, so the tailback spot hardly is the only one in question. Williams says he still has a hunger for the game. ??My passion for football will never go away,'' he said. ??My coming back is more about a passion for life. But to be controlled by your passions, you are not going to be a very happy person. You are going to be running around chasing it. I'll try to keep my passion in balance.'' Williams entered against Chicago on Miami's second series and had a 2-yard run. He had another 2-yard run and gained 2 yards on a swing pass on which he stumbled during the next possession. In the second period, Williams had runs of 3, 2 and minus-1 yards. The blocking in front of him was shoddy. The old Ricky might have made more out those carries, but it's early and the game didn't count in any standings. He felt the camaraderie was more important for now. ??The big thing was being on the sidelines with my teammates,'' he said. ??It felt like I had never been away. ??My life might look complicated to others, but it's not complicated to me. Maybe it looks that way from the outside, but it isn't.'' WOW this guy has to be messed up in the head.....damn
