Beckett Poised to rejoin Rotation
Update: Assuming Beckett (oblique strain) makes it through a bullpen session on Wednesday with no problems, he's expected to rejoin the rotation sometime this weekend, the Marlins website reports. Recommendation: Exactly when Beckett will get a start depends mostly on what happens with A.J. Burnett, and who the Marlins get for him if they trade him. Source: Rotowire.com

Red Sox Moves

Youkilis hit .286 with a homer and nine RBIs in 31 games for Boston. Source: AP

R.I.P. James Doohan
James Doohan, the burly chief engineer of the Starship Enterprise in the original ??Star Trek'' TV series and movies who responded to the command ??Beam me up, Scotty,'' died Wednesday. He was 85. Doohan died at 5:30 a.m. at his Redmond, Wash., home with his wife of 28 years, Wende, at his side, Los Angeles agent and longtime friend Steve Stevens said. The cause of death was pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease, he said. He had said farewell to public life in August 2004, a few months after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The Canadian-born Doohan was enjoying a busy career as a character actor when he auditioned for a role as an engineer in a new space adventure on NBC in 1966. A master of dialects from his early years in radio, he tried seven different accents. ??The producers asked me which one I preferred,'' Doohan recalled 30 years later. ??I believed the Scot voice was the most commanding. So I told them, 'If this character is going to be an engineer, you'd better make him a Scotsman.''' The series, which starred William Shatner as Capt. James T. Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as the enigmatic Mr. Spock, attracted an enthusiastic following of science fiction fans, especially among teenagers and children, but not enough ratings power. NBC canceled it after three seasons. When the series ended in 1969, Doohan found himself typecast as Montgomery Scott, the canny engineer with a burr in his voice. In 1973, he complained to his dentist, who advised him: ??Jimmy, you're going to be Scotty long after you're dead. If I were you, I'd go with the flow.'' ??I took his advice,'' said Doohan, ??and since then everything's been just lovely.'' ??Star Trek'' continued in syndication both in the United States and abroad, and its following grew larger and more dedicated. In his later years, Doohan attended 40 ??Trekkie'' gatherings around the country and lectured at colleges. The huge success of George Lucas' ??Star Wars'' in 1977 prompted Paramount Pictures, which had produced ??Star Trek'' for television, to plan a movie based on the series. The studio brought back the TV cast and hired director Robert Wise. ??Star Trek: The Motion Picture'' was successful enough to spawn five sequels. The powerfully built Doohan, a veteran of D-Day in Normandy, spoke frankly in 1998 about his employer and his TV commander. ??I started out in the series at basic minimum? plus 10 percent for my agent. That was added a little bit in the second year. When we finally got to our third year, Paramount told us we'd get second-year pay! That's how much they loved us.'' He accused Shatner of hogging the camera, adding: ??I like Captain Kirk, but I sure don't like Bill. He's so insecure that all he can think about is himself.'' James Montgomery Doohan was born March 3, 1920, in Vancouver, British Columbia, youngest of four children of William Doohan, a pharmacist, veterinarian and dentist, and his wife Sarah. As he wrote in his autobiography, ??Beam Me Up, Scotty,'' his father was a drunk who made life miserable for his wife and children. At 19, James escaped the turmoil at home by joining the Canadian army, becoming a lieutenant in artillery. He was among the Canadian forces that landed on Juno Beach on D-Day. ??The sea was rough,'' he recalled. ??We were more afraid of drowning than the Germans.'' The Canadians crossed a minefield laid for tanks; the soldiers weren't heavy enough to detonate the bombs. At 11:30 that night, he was machine-gunned, taking six hits: one that took off his middle right finger (he managed to hide the missing finger on screen), four in his leg and one in the chest. Fortunately the chest bullet was stopped by his silver cigarette case. After the war Doohan on a whim enrolled in a drama class in Toronto. He showed promise and won a two-year scholarship to New York's famed Neighborhood Playhouse, where fellow students included Leslie Nielsen, Tony Randall and Richard Boone. His commanding presence and booming voice brought him work as a character actor in films and television, both in Canada and the United States. Oddly, his only other TV series besides ??Star Trek'' was another space adventure, ??Space Command,'' in 1953. Doohan's first marriage to Judy Doohan produced four children. He had two children by his second marriage to Anita Yagel. Both marriages ended in divorce. In 1974 he married Wende Braunberger, and their children were Eric, Thomas and Sarah, who was born in 2000, when Doohan was 80. In a 1998 interview, Doohan was asked if he ever got tired of hearing the line ??Beam me up, Scotty.'' ??I'm not tired of it at all,'' he replied. ??Good gracious, it's been said to me for just about 31 years. It's been said to me at 70 miles an hour across four lanes on the freeway. I hear it from just about everybody. It's been fun.''

Interesting Assessment about O's Value
This is from today's rumblings: Instead of adding a starting pitcher, the Orioles could look to bolster their already potent offense. One club official said they asked the Cincinnati Reds about slugger Adam Dunn, but the Reds told them their asking price started with Bedard. Link Interesting that Adam Dunn, who is a very good but flawed player, has a higher asking price than AJ Burnett, who is a very good but flawed player. To me, they're mirror images of each other, just one pitches and the other hits. They both have a ton of talent, and they have the ability to be the best there is at their respective position, yet neither has really put it together. However, the Reds clearly feel that Julio, Penn and Bigbie just isn't good enough, even if it's for a player who they probably can't afford next season, and who hasn't "put it all together" yet... 866799 That is a pretty high asking price for a hitter who strikes out more often tha anyone in the league or close to that clip....

Florida's MLB Teams
I'm unsure of which one I'd pick because the D-Rays have a manager that wants to be fired, but the community loves him; the Marlins have a manager that doesn't seem to want to be fired, but a great number of the community wants him out. D-Rays have no hope with the current ownership while, I'd say that this ownership is probably the best in the Marlins' history (whew, did I say that?). D-Rays have a clubhouse where the manager is unhappy, but the playershaven't showed much emotion; the Marlins have a clubhouse where the players are unhappy, but the manager hasn't showed much emotion. The manager on both teams seem to be at the center of alot of both teams' problems. There are other things. I think that it's a tie. 866700 sorry man there is nothing close about this at all....The Marlins are two-time world champions, the D-Rays have never had a winning season.....The Fish will snap out of their funk; the D-Rays will luckily snap and fire their manager

Good win last night
It was nice to see the bullpen not give up any runs in 3 innings and our 3 + 4 guys go yard. It doesn't change my opinion of the team beacuse its only one game against the Diamondbacks. But its still nice to see a win w/ a 6 run performance from our offense when it wasn't trying to come from behind. Lets see if we can redo it again tonight. 866648 hopefully we can have an exact replay even in the starting pitching department....cause Moehler needs some run support for crying out loud

Intresting Stat
The Marlins have achieved a double-digit hit total in five of six games since the All-Star break. They entered Tuesday's game with a .314 second-half average, third among National League teams behind the Cubs (.362) and Phillies (.359). Source: Sun-Sentinel Pretty impressive that the teams that we had lost 6 of 7 games too are the ones hitting better than us...even though I know the Cubs was before the break but how bout them Phillies showing some offense. Fish need to keep it up like last night GO FISH!!!

"Marlins, O's still puzzling over trade scenario"
In a scaled-back version of the deal, the Marlins could send Burnett and Triple-A left-hander Matt Perisho to the Orioles for right-hander Jorge Julio, pitching prospect Hayden Penn and left-hander Steve Kline. I would love this deal....any way of keeping Mikey Im all for it....
-
My source says theres a deal
I have a friend who works in the Oriole warehouse and he is telling me that adeal has been agreed on. Burnett and the Orioles have agreed on an extension and the deal will be finalized in the morning. He says it works out like this... Orioles get AJ Burnett Mike Lowell Eric Reed Matt Perisho Marlins get Hayden Penn Admin Bigbie Jorge Julio Steve Reed Steve Kline He said he isnt sure but he think the Marlins will pay $7 million on Lowell's contract. 866491 I WOULD NEED ALOT OF :beer IF THIS IS THE TRADE....CAUSE YOU ARE BASICALLLY THROWING IN THE TOWEL

Travis Smith is back
According to some sources Peter Gammons has Beinfest's job may be on the line. Considering what's happened this year and last I wouldn't blame Loria for doing it. Although he did put together what we thought would be a first place team. How could anyone forsee this blowing up how it has? I will give him blame for not making moves earlier coaching staff and player-wise. 865188 And the revolving door keeps on turning... 865453 This will be the last move as Alfonseca, Valdez, Kline, and Julio should soon join us. Putting DeLosSantos, Reidling, Messenger, and Smith back in the minors. 865461 Reiding is out of options if the Marlins attpempt to send him back down he will become a free agent...so bye bye John if this trade goes through
-
Does AJ start tonight?
If he isnt trade by game time, does he start the game tonight? 864922 That is a big question, if he is not traded but scheduled to be traded tomm. or what not would the team hold him out tonight... if so, who would start for the fish???? unless they push everyone up a day and plug Valdes into that hole later in the week/???

No 3-way AND Marlins still may have to eat salary!
If we're going to have to pay for a lot of Mikeys salary we might as well keep him. 864838 wow man i agree with this thing...we are paying enough backloaded contract and paying for people that don't wear Marlins uniforms....if we have to pick up any of the contracts....i would say no go....but whatever...Admin hasn't let us down yet...that is just my opinion Still paying for: Pudge Hampton and now you want us to pay for Lowell....that is alot of money on the payroll for people not playing in teel :thumbdown

Marlins forum is in disarray
Great Idea with the Rumor Central Forum.....makes reading a lot easier

Should Lowell be traded?
Trading AJ is a given, but I do not believe Lowell should be traded. No matter how bad things get, he shouldn't be traded. Lowell is more than just a player on this team, Conine is retiring after this season and Lowell is going to be the new Mr. Marlin when that happens. You can call it blind loyalty, but I don't want Lowell traded under any circumstance. Lowell stuck with this team through the bad times and we owe it to him to stick with Mike through the bad times, it will pay off in the end. Unless we get Miggy-T from the O's, I can guarantee everyone on here will regret trading Lowell at some point in the near future. Vote^^ 864046 I am in total agreement with Accord on this one....being a Lowell follower since his days at FIU, I can honestly say that he would be the next Mr. Marlin if Conine hangs them up and everyone in the big leagues tends to have a bad year sometime in their careers....unfortunetly for the Fish, Mikey's down year happens to be this one if they are going to send him off in the next few days, it would suck being a Mikey fan but the club needs to do what they need to do and in Mikey's words "This is a business" So if he does get dealt...I would like to be the first to say THANK YOU MIKEY FOR ALL THE FUN AND EXCITEMENT YOU BROUGHT OUR TEAM AND OUR COMMUNITY!!!!

Valdez Update...
Ismael Valdez (right leg fracture) threw six scoreless innings Monday for Class AAA Albuquerque at Iowa. He allowed three hits, four walks and struck out four. He threw 99 pitches. . . . :thumbup 864628 good chance he will be back in the rotation next time around or at least with the ballclub this weekend in long relief :thumbup

BERARDINO: Is Leyland on way back?
wow...thank you jack for all your services that you have provided to the fish and the team can use you in a consultant's role, but we need a fresh face someone to put the fear of death into this team and that man is none other than: JIM LEYLAND!!!
