AJ
Latest rumour is AJ+Leiter to the Yankees in return for Pavano. Problem being Pavs has 31million on his contract, the Marlins would only pay what they offered 3/21million. Other rumour is to Sox for Arroyo. Source is the Miami Herald I believe. 856399 I read the Herald sports from cover to cover and even the ads and I haven't see either one of those rumors....

Burnett, Leiter news
Blue Jays: Team making play for Marlins pitcher Burnett There are plenty of suitors for Marlins pitcher A.J. Burnett as the trade deadline nears, but the Blue Jays are one of the teams with the most realistic shot at acquiring him, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. Jays pitching coach Brad Arnsberg is one of Burnett's closest friends, dating to their partnership with the Marlins in 2002-03. Add to that the fact the Marlins covet what the Blue Jays consider a tradable commodity in pitcher Gustavo Chacin, and the Blue Jays have the ability to raise payroll as much as $30 million a year over the next two years and you have a scenario that makes sense. Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi recently called Marlins GM Admin Beinfest and told him to check back with him before dealing Burnett, so we'll see if something gets done. Views The Jays are even more desperate for quality starting pitching given the Roy "Doc" Halladay injury and Burnett would be a very solid patch to that problem, and eventual number two when Doc is able to return. If Burnett makes the move, he'll be going from an extreme pitcher's park to an extreme hitter's park which would make predicting his success much more difficult. Burnett is likely to be somewhere besides Florida when the trade deadline hits and for now, only time will tell. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marlins: Leiter may be designated for assignment Marlins pitcher Al Leiter hasn't had it quite as easy in his second go around with the club. After 11 wins and a World Series title in 1997, Leiter spent seven years with the Mets before returning to South Florida this season and posting an ugly 3-7 record, 6.64 ERA, and 1.85 WHIP. According to two baseball sources, the Marlins are giving strong consideration to cutting ties with the veteran left-hander. In the most likely scenario, he would be designated for assignment, which would give the team 10 days to trade or release the 158-game winner, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. He is scheduled to start on Monday, but manager Jack McKeon is non-committal on who his starter will be for that game. Views Leiter has drawn zero trade interest from other clubs, so it would seem likely that he is reaching the end of an 18-year road in the major leagues. We highly doubt there is any scenario that would see him on fantasy rosters at this point, but if you're holding on to him with the hopes of resurgence, you are living a pipe dream.

Byte This with Lita
Notice how he said "Maybe I'll take a vacation down in Florida Sunday." Now, I'm pretty sure that the WWE would never allow this to happen, but if they let Matt appear on TNA's No Surrender, I would be impressed. For the first time in years, I'd have that feeling of unpredicibility in the WWE. 854798 Once again, I don't think Matt will appear on the TNA PPV this Sunday cause he will be at Raw on Monday after doing his two indy gigs on Friday and Saturday this weekend that had already been booked. If this was trually a shoot there is no way the WWE would have given matt so much air time not only on Byte This last night but on RAW on monday and they wouldn't have taken him backstage with the "arrest" they would have taken him underneath and out the door...think about it. Also if he wasn't under some sort of contract....how did the guy get backstage???

World Baseball Classic
I think it's positively RETARDED that Venezuela and the Dominican Republic are playing eachother in the first round. Why waste one of the best teams in the first round? What an awful bracket. 854121 Well not wasting anything....top two teams in each bracket advance to the quarterfinals and then....after 1st round it is then single elimination

Cuba doubtful for WBC
Cuba's top sports official said Wednesday he doubts the nation will participate in next year's World Baseball Classic, calling the event commercialization of the sport. Baseball's first World Cup-style tournament, an 18-day, 16-nation event organized by Major League Baseball and its players' association, is scheduled to start March 3, will be played in the United States, Asia and Latin America. ??Cuba doubts it will participate, primarily because the reasons and the interests behind the event have yet to be stated clearly,'' Humberto Rodriguez, president of Cuba's National Institute of Sports, told The Associated Press Wednesday. The decision will be made by December, Rodriguez said. ??However, I can already tell you ... that if it's about capitalizing baseball to show off economic power, we are not in agreement,'' he said. While Japanese management has approved, the Japanese players' association has not made a decision. Source: AP

Boston-Oakland trade
The Boston Red Sox tried to bolster their struggling bullpen Wednesday, acquiring right-hander Chad Bradford from the Oakland Athletics in a trade for outfielder Jay Payton and cash considerations. Bradford, on the disabled list since undergoing lower back surgery last March 7, is expected to be activated before the AL East leaders play the New York Yankees on Thursday night at Fenway Park. Four of Boston's relievers have ERAs of more than 6.00 and two of those ? closer Keith Foulke and Matt Mantei ? are on the disabled list. Bradford has a 21-15 lifetime record with seven saves and a 3.47 ERA for the A's. The sidearmer spent part or all of the last four seasons with Oakland after playing the previous three years with the Chicago White Sox. Payton, who was upset with his backup role after an offseason trade brought him from San Diego, was designated for assignment last Thursday. He hit .263 with five homers and 21 RBIs in 55 games for Boston. Source: AP With Oakland aquiring Payton does that mean Kotsay could soon be the next one dealt???

Wayne hath cracked
3 Things I Love About This Proposal: 1) Roof for the Marlins ( :notworthy ) 2) Rent-Free Lease (Frees Up about $10 million a year for payroll) 3) All Concession, Club Seat, and Sky Box Money for Fish (Opens Floodgate$) This would be the best solution if the OB doesn't work out. 790420 I agree completely....Loria would save a bundle and would open the floodgates to hopefully be able to re-sign AJ if they don't trade him (if the deal gets done soon enough) and open the market to others.... Question though how quick can they do the turn-a-round if they agree to it....due to the Dolphins and Marlins playing pretty much non-stop in the stadium....i mean if the Phins don't make the playoffs you have from Jan-Apr. with nothing going on at the stadium can it be turned around that quick??

Selig speaks Marlins Stadiums
The Florida Marlins remain confident they will be able to assemble financing for a new ballpark, according to baseball commissioner Bud Selig. The team's latest ballpark plan, 38,000-seat stadium with a retractable-roof that would be built adjacent to Miami's Orange Bowl, came apart this spring. The ballpark has an estimated cost of $420 million to $435 million, and the financing plan included $60 million in state funding. While money was approved in April by the Florida House, the Florida Senate refused to go along. South Florida government officials and the team did not meet a June 9 deadline established by Bob DuPuy, baseball's chief operating officer, for a detailed update on the funding plans. ??They keep saying they still think they're going to get something done, they need to get something done,'' Selig said Tuesday during a pre-All-Star game meeting with the Baseball Writers' Association of America. ??If they're optimistic and hopeful, I am, too.'' Florida's home attendance average of 22,385 is last in the National League and 27th among the 30 major league teams, ahead of only Tampa Bay (12,257), Kansas City (18,849) and Cleveland (22,037). ??I'm always concerned about teams that need new stadiums, and it's obvious they do. That's not a secret,'' Selig said. ??Somehow there has to be the political will and the private-sector will to get a stadium built. I mean, they are struggling mightily.'' Marlins officials met in December with Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, but Selig said a move isn't currently under discussion. ??There isn't anybody at the front of the line for moving. There isn't anybody moving anywhere right now,'' he said. Selig also expressed worry about Florida's other major league team, the Devil Rays, who are a major league-worst 28-61 and have never finished above .500 since starting play in 1998. Manager Lou Piniella last month criticized the team's ownership, saying: ??They're not interested in the present, they're interested in the future. And that's their right.'' New York investor Stuart Sternberg last year bought 48 percent of the team, which is run by managing general partner Vince Naimoli. There has been speculation that Sternberg will take over at some point. ??That's a thing that he and Vince Naimoli are going to have to work out,'' Selig said. ??Obviously, they're struggling on the field and off the field in a lot of different ways. It's another area that if you look at the basic demographics, it should be a good major league market, and the fact that they've struggled as much as they have is obviously ? it's always a concern.'' Dominican team
that sucks about AROD, he should play for the US anyway, i like this format, this will be great, there are 4 teams or so that will excel but given time others will be able to field competitve teams aswell i see venezuela, DR, US and japan being the leaders right now 852348 I think it could be ven. DR, us and japan also but don't forget Cuba...even though some people have blasted them cause they are going to bring the national team, which some say plays at an A ball level....if they do compete they will be a team to look at for the final four

Jim Leyland
Leyland would be a good fit, he tends to manage veteran guys well, gets the most from his players, and is a smart manager. I would love to see him return to the Marlins, but personally I am on the Tony Pena bandwagon, he is the kind of manager who can make the clubhouse fun again and bring enormous energy to the clubhouse. 852459 The thing with Pena is that he is will probably sit out the rest of this year and next year due to the fact that he wants to coach a team in the World Baseball Classic and he can't be under an active manager's contract and coach in the WBC...it would have to be a big contract to woo him away from the other gig he wants... I think IF the Marlins make a change Leyland would be a logical choice IF he really wants to come back to managing

Jason Vargas
Although both could probably pitch in the show right now...it will be better for them to stay down there and get on the hill every 5th day at AA. Both of these kids are in the running for spots in the rotation next year.... Rotation could look like Willis Beckett Olsen Vargas Johnson very easily with the pending loss of AJ to free agency, not re-signing Valdez for next year and maybe moving Moehler (although he has been impressive this year) to long relief roll.. What do yall think? 851010 a rotation of 3 rookies and 2 youngster? only if you want to finish below 500 851051 Olsen might not be a rookie anymore :mischief 851071 good point Maverick :thumbup
