  4. and no one seems to know why M.I.A. Denied U.S. Entrance British by way of Sri Lanka, MC M.I.A. has reportedly been denied access into the United States by immigration officials. In response, the singer posted the following on a MySpace blog entitled "They Try Shut My Door": "Roger roger do you here me over!!!! The U.S immigration won't let me in!!!! . . . I'm locked out . . . Now I'm strictly making my album outside the borders!!!!" M.I.A. was heading back into the studio to record the follow-up to her acclaimed 2005 debut, Arular, with producer TIMBALAND. No word on whether the post may show up on a new track. http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/103...ic_news_rssfeed MIA Denied Entry To the US By: Spacelab Research Staff British / Sri-Lankan artist MIA (real name Maya Arulpragasam) has denied a visa to the US immigration officials. The details are extremely fuzzy as to why she has not been granted access to enter the country, but she had intended to work on her upcoming album with producer Timbaland. In a post on her MySpace site, she said "i was mennu work with timber startin this week, but now im doin a Akon "im locked out they wont let me in" im locked out! they wont let me in! Now Im strictly making my album outside the borders!!!! so il see you all one day, for now ill keep reportin from the sidelines." 2005 saw MIA literally explode in the US, after a good performance at the South By Southwest Music Festival and a lot of support from the music press and blogosphere over her songs Galang and Sunshowers. She raps over the top of dancehall and hip-hop style beats to give a very minimal but impacting style. http://www.thespacelab.tv/spaceLAB/2006/05...cNews32-MIA.htm
  5. Seven Indonesian Bird Flu Cases Linked to Patients (Update1) May 23 (Bloomberg) -- All seven people infected with bird flu in a cluster of Indonesian cases can be linked to other patients, according to disease trackers investigating possible human-to-human transmission of the H5N1 virus. A team of international experts has been unable to find animals that might have infected the people, the World Health Organization said in a statement today. In one case, a 10-year- old boy who caught the virus from his aunt may have passed it to his father, the first time officials have seen evidence of a three-person chain of infection, an agency spokeswoman said. Six of the seven people have died. Almost all of the 218 cases of H5N1 infections confirmed by the WHO since late 2003 can be traced to direct contact with sick or dead birds. Strong evidence of human-to-human transmission may prompt the global health agency to convene a panel of experts and consider raising the pandemic alert level, said Maria Cheng, an agency spokeswoman. ``Considering the evidence and the size of the cluster, it's a possibility,'' Cheng said in a telephone interview. ``It depends on what we're dealing with in Indonesia. It's an evolving situation.'' The 32-year-old father in the cluster of cases on the island of Sumatra was ``closely involved in caring for his son, and this contact is considered a possible source of infection,'' The WHO said in its statement. Three others, including the sole survivor in the group, spent a night in a ``small'' room with the boy's aunt, who later died and was buried before health officials could conduct tests for the H5N1 virus. `Directly Linked' ``All confirmed cases in the cluster can be directly linked to close and prolonged exposure to a patient during a phase of severe illness,'' the WHO said. While investigators have been unable to rule out human-to- human transmission in the Sumatran cluster, they continue to search for other explanations for how the infections arose, the WHO statement said. Health experts are concerned that if H5N1 gains the ability to spread easily among people, it may set off a lethal global outbreak of flu. While some flu pandemics are relatively mild, the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic killed an estimated 50 million people worldwide. So far, studies of the Sumatran outbreak and genetic analyses of the virus don't indicate the virus has undergone major changes, Cheng said. Scientists at WHO-affiliated labs in the U.S. and Hong Kong found no evidence that the Indonesian strain of H5N1 has gained genes from pigs or humans that might change its power or spreading ability, WHO said. Mutations ``These viruses mutate all the time and it's difficult to know what the mutations mean,'' Cheng said. Health officials earlier found strong evidence of direct human-to-human spread of H5N1 in Thailand in 2004. Scientists reported in the Jan. 27, 2005, issue of the New England Journal of Medicine that the H5N1 virus probably spread from an 11-year- old girl in Thailand to her aunt and mother, killing the mother and daughter. People who had more casual contact with the girl didn't become infected. In the Sumatran cluster, close, direct contact with a severely ill person was also needed for spread, Cheng said. Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that the woman who died, considered to be the initial case, was coughing frequently while the three others spent the night in the same room. One of the three, a second brother, is the sole survivor. The other two, her sons, died. ``It looks like the same behavior pattern'' of close contact and caretaking during illness with the bird flu virus, Cheng said. To raise the level of pandemic alert ``it would have to be transmissible from more casual contact.'' General Community The Indonesian Ministry of Health and international scientists are continuing their investigation to trace the origins of the infections, the WHO said in its statement. ``Priority is now being given to the search for additional cases of influenza-like illness in other family members, close contacts, and the general community,'' the WHO said. ``To date, the investigation has found no evidence of spread within the general community and no evidence that efficient human-to-human transmission has occurred.'' Enlarge By Paul Hawthorne, Getty Images Former Lost star Michelle Rodriguez must submit to another 60-day jail term in California as a result of violating her parole in Hawaii. LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Actress Michelle Rodriguez, who served five days in jail in Hawaii last month for drunk driving, must serve 60 days for violating her probation with that arrest, a spokesman for the city attorney said Monday. Judge Rex Hesseman also sentenced the former star of television's Lost to 30 days of community service with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, stints with the Mothers Against Drunk Driving victim impact panel and the city's hospital and morgue program, said spokesman Frank Mateljan. She must also attend an alcohol education program. The 27-year-old actress is scheduled to begin her jail term on May 31, Mateljan said. A message left with her attorney, Henry Holmes, was not immediately returned. Rodriguez was arrested in Hawaii last December on the drunken driving charge. She pleaded guilty last month. The Honolulu arrest violated the three-year probation term the actress was given in 2004 after pleading no contest to charges of hit-and-run, driving on a suspended license and driving under the influence of alcohol, Mateljan said. Her probation on those charges has now been extended until June 2009. Rodriguez's Lost character, Ana Lucia, was killed off in an episode broadcast earlier this month. The show's producers have said that plot twist had nothing to do with her arrests. Copyright 2006 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. 8. :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy ClayNation: Pat Robertson's magical protein shake Clay Travis May 22, 2006 By Clay Travis Every now and then, a ClayNation reader e-mail causes me to question my entire worldview. Such was recently the case. We received many responses regarding my quest to leg press 400 pounds and "show up former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright." None was more shocking than this one from Ken Pederson of Seattle: "400 pounds is nothing! Rev. Pat Robertson, 76, can leg press 2,000 pounds. I saw him on TV the other day and the capillaries in his eyes looked just fine!" If you do not click on the link Ken provided to Robertson's Web site right now, you are truly lazy and missing the most remarkable feat of physical strength since Video SPiN featured Lasha Pataraya pulling two trucks with his ear. Here's the text from his Web site: "Did you know that Pat Robertson can leg press 2,000 pounds? How does he do it? Where does Pat find the time and energy to host a daily, national TV show, head a world-wide ministry, develop visionary scholars, while traveling the globe as a statesman? One of Pat's secrets to keeping his energy high and his vitality soaring is his age-defying protein shake. Pat developed a delicious, refreshing shake, filled with energy-producing nutrients. Discover what kinds of natural ingredients make up Pat's protein shake by registering for your FREE booklet today!" Three things: 1. I am going to drink this protein shake of his and try to leg press a Mazda Miata with three clowns sitting inside. 2. There is no way on earth Robertson leg presses 2,000 pounds. That would mean a 76-year-old man broke the all-time Florida State University leg press record by 665 pounds over Dan Kendra. 665 pounds. Further, when he set the record, they had to modify the leg press machine to fit 1,335 pounds of weight. Plus, Kendra's capillaries in his eyes burst. Burst. Where in the world did Robertson even find a machine that could hold 2,000 pounds at one time? And how does he still have vision? 3. It's rare the ClayNation Guarantee makes an appearance, but here, it is justified. There is no way Robertson leg presses 2,000 pounds. Period. If he can, I will box a round against Andrew Golota without wearing a jockstrap. After about 20 minutes on Robertson's Web site, I managed to find a way to send an e-mail without having to give my credit card information. Here was the text: "I would like to interview Pat Robertson about his leg-press workout and protein shake. If possible, I would like to accompany Pat on his workout where I could help him stack on the 44 different 45-pound plates he would need to attach to leg press 2,000 pounds. By my calculations, his leg press of 2,000 pounds requires 22 forty-fives and one ten-pounder on each side. http://www.sportsline.com/spin/story/9454343
  9. Former New Jersey Governor Details His Homosexuality in Memoir Monday, May 22, 2006 NEWARK, N.J. ? Former Gov. James E. McGreevey once resorted to anonymous homosexual trysts at highway rest stops, according to recently released excerpts from his memoir being released later this year. McGreevey ? who proclaimed himself "a gay American" in 2004 while announcing his impending resignation as governor ? describes his long struggle with his homosexuality in the book "The Confession." According to the excerpts published Sunday in The Star-Ledger of Newark, McGreevey engaged in the secret encounters because he feared having a relationship with a man would ruin his chances of success as a politician. "So, instead, I settled for the detached anonymity of bookstores and rest stops ? a compromise, but one that was wholly unfulfilling and morally unsatisfactory," McGreevey wrote. The excerpts do not mention whether the activities extended into his time as governor. ReganBooks, a division of HarperCollins, is paying the 48-year-old McGreevey up to $500,000 for the 384-page memoir. He made an appearance Saturday at BookExpo America in Washington, D.C., where he told the newspaper his book is "painfully honest." "A lot will resonate with readers," he said. (Story continues below) ADVERTISEMENTS Advertise Here The excerpts do not detail his two marriages, or even the scandal, which became public knowledge during an August 2004 televised news conference in which McGreevey acknowledged a gay affair and said he would resign in coming months. The excerpts also do not mention the former aide whom sources close to McGreevey have identified as the man he had an extramarital affair with. According to the excerpts, McGreevey said he also became "as avid a womanizer as anybody else on the New Jersey political scene." "I knew I would have to lie for the rest of my life ? and I knew I was capable of it," McGreevey wrote. "The knowledge gave me a feeling of terrible power." He said he became an avid student of human behavior during his rise from the state Parole Board to Woodbridge mayor to governor, and that allowed him to keep up the charade. "I studied the moves, figured out what worked and what didn't, practiced and perfected my perfect inauthenticity," he wrote. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,196451,00.html

  11. republican society of corruption my @$$ FBI searches congressman's office Rep. William Jefferson is focus of federal bribery probe Saturday, May 20, 2006; Posted: 8:52 p.m. EDT (00:52 GMT) WASHINGTON (CNN) -- FBI agents were on Capitol Hill on Saturday searching the office of Rep. William Jefferson as part of a bribery investigation into the Louisiana Democrat, government officials said. Agents searched Jefferson's New Orleans, Louisiana, home in August, but Saturday marked the first time the FBI has ever searched a congressman's Capitol Hill office, one official said. The search in the Rayburn Office Building began at 7:15 p.m. and was expected to last several hours, FBI spokeswoman Deborah Weierman said. The affidavit and search warrant are sealed, but a portion would be made public once the search is complete, she said. Weierman said the search was "in conjunction with an ongoing public corruption investigation." The Justice Department has been investigating Jefferson's involvement in telecommunications deals in Africa and elsewhere. The House Ethics Committee launched an investigation of him last week. Vernon Jackson of Louisville, Kentucky, pleaded guilty in federal court this month to bribing the congressman with more than $400,000 in payments, company stock and a share of the profits to promote a Kentucky company's high-tech business ventures in Africa. (Full story) The cloud over Jefferson comes as Democratic leaders have been attacking what they call a "culture of corruption" surrounding the Republican leadership in Congress. With midterm elections looming, Democrats are trying to highlight GOP ties to the influence-peddling investigation targeting lobbyist Jack Abramoff and last year's guilty plea of California Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, now serving an eight-year stretch for taking bribes from defense contractors. In a news conference last week, Jefferson said he was innocent and that he would remain in office while he fights any charges. (Full story) "I wish to say emphatically that in all of my actions that are here under scrutiny, that I have never intended to dishonor my office, or you, the public, and I certainly did not sell my office," Jefferson told reporters. A government official close to the investigation said the search was conducted when few people are on Capitol Hill because they believed that time would be "appropriate." A spokeswoman for Jefferson had no comment on the search. http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/05/20/jefferson.search/

  14. this is what we have all been waiting for :mischief UFO 'crashes' into KZN sea 20/05/2006 22:12 - (SA) Click Here! # British skies 'UFO free' # Nasa under pressure over 'UFO' # Wanted: SA UFO spotters # UFO 'explodes' in China # Air force on alert about UFO # UFOs spotted over Iran Port Shepstone - The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is monitoring a mysterious situation on the KZN south coast. "Numerous" eye-witnesses reported an unidentified flying object crashing into the sea on Saturday. NSRI Shelley Beach station commander, Eddie Noyons, said eye-witnesses had reported an unidentified object - possibly an aircraft - crashing into the sea behind the breaker line off-shore of the Port Shepstone High School. Police, rescue craft and a fixed wing aircraft were alerted to the scene to investigate. Noyons said: "Following a full-scale search of the area covering 12 square nautical miles nothing has been found. "There are no reports of activity in the area that may be related to this incident and there are no aircraft reported overdue or missing." He said numerous eye-witnesses - including teachers and pupils attending a sports event at the high school, by-standers and local fishermen - were convinced they had seen an aircraft go into the water. They said they saw smoke and described "water exploding". Some also reported seeing flames. Noyons said: "Some reported seeing something, an unidentified object, splash into the sea causing a ripple effect of waves." Noyons said it was being presumed that weather activity in the area at the time might have given the impression of something falling into the sea. " We will continue to monitor the situation, which remains a mystery," he said. http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/...1936528,00.html
  15. HERO Taxing developers green for cheap homes looks red to mayor By Brittany Wallman South Florida Sun-Sentinel Posted May 20 2006 FORT LAUDERDALE Mega-developers and the city's mayor are shooting down a proposed affordable housing law, calling it unfair, communistic and doomed to failure. People could afford a place to live, the mayor said, if they were willing to work harder. Mayor Jim Naugle, a conservative and brash politician serving his final term, said people mistakenly think they're entitled to an affordable single-family house on a 40-hour work routine. They need to work more hours, and even then settle for a condo or townhouse, Naugle said. LocalLinks "I'm supposed to subsidize some schlock sitting on the sofa and drinking a beer, who won't work more than 40 hours a week?'' he asked. "I deny that there is a problem. You can buy condos all day for $160,000.'' Naugle's comments may be contested by the working-class citizens who've told the city they want a home but can't afford it. But his ideas might hit home in other circles, where a city proposal to make developers slash prices or pay a fee was met with skepticism. "We ought to let the free market work,'' said Bill Scherer, a lawyer-developer on the city's Downtown Development Authority. The proposal asks developers to give up big money -- $1.5 million on a 100-condo complex, for example -- for the theoretical good of the community. The city's law, as drafted, would make residential developers pay for affordable housing, either by providing it within their housing complexes, or paying fees into a trust fund to subsidize housing for the middle class. Families making up to $69,720 -- which is 20 percent more than the area's median family income -- would be eligible for a government boost. New York has rent control. The federal government has Section 8 housing aid. So, this isn't the first time government has gotten involved in the real estate market to help people afford a place to live. South Florida's cities only recently decided housing prices had reached crisis level highs, and Fort Lauderdale is one of the first to seriously attempt passing a law to do something about it. The city is under pressure from Broward County to pass a law; otherwise, the county says it won't allow another wave of construction of thousands of condos downtown. "The concept of this ordinance is from each according to his ability, to each according to need, which is the Communist Manifesto,'' said Naugle, who calls the proposed law a "luxury housing tax.'' "One person is working two or three jobs to get ahead and one person isn't. Should we tax the person that's working hard to get ahead, to pay for the one who isn't?'' he said. Jim Carras, head of the private, nonprofit Broward Housing Partnership, countered the mayor's Karl Marx rhetoric with a paraphrase from President Truman. "`A decent place to live is the right of every American.' We have maybe stepped away from how we fund it,but even the most conservative Republicans in Congress and the state legislature see a role for government," said Carras. Housing prices in Broward continue to shock some buyers. The median home price in Broward County in March -- the price at which half the homes sell for more and half the homes sell for less -- was $368,100 for a house and $202,600 for a condo. Still, according to a recent study by Strategic Planning Group Inc., that means most condos are within financial reach of most buyers, though it might not be the size or location a buyer is seeking. A debate about Fort Lauderdale's proposed law might have been expected, considering what's at stake. "Gas is unaffordable. Now, do gas station owners need to go out and supply affordable gas?'' said Doug Eagon, president of Stiles Corp., which built many of downtown's big towers. Developers said they would pass the costs to other buyers, leading to increased housing prices overall. Major developers on the Downtown Development Authority originally supported the concept of an affordable housing regulation. But they don't like the results. They want it rewritten to offer incentives to developers, and to spread the cost across the general public, by using tax dollars, for example. The building industry is officially opposed. Brandon Biederman, director of government affairs for the Builders Association of South Florida, told the city that construction costs are going up, making the additional fees an even worse proposition. A recent version of the law was soundly rejected by city commissioners last month and sent back for more public discussion and revamping. City planning director Marc LaFerrier said he's working on a new proposal, and it will likely be back in public debate June 6, at the City Commission's conference meeting in the afternoon. That was probably the most gut-wrenching thing I've seen live in sports. not sure if you ever saw the video of Clint Malarchuk. that was really really bad. he was an nhl goalie and his neck was slashed by a skate in the middle of a game and it eventually took 300 stitches to close up. espn has done a bunch of reports on the incident since. pic of him on his knees in the crease bleeding
  17. there are not more than 15-20 "untradable" players in the game today and not even they are safe from being traded. i mean even a-rod was traded when he was considered one of the best. pujols won't be traded at this phase of his career. and there are only a handful or players that teams will never discuss moving. frankly your list is a bit off. the yankees would love to get rid of bernie and his contract. and i don't know why you think there is so much love between the mets and floyd. if the phillies are going to hold onto anyone it is howard. then you list some of the oldest players around for other teams. just because there is no market for good players doesn't mean teams wouldn't like to move them. and when it comes to willis and cabrera it is all about money and how much they are expected to make as their contracts begin to explode and how much loria is willing to lay out on payroll. if it is projected they will make together more than he plans to lay out for the entire team that won't be a reason to keep them. right now the payroll is about $15 million. in two years time cabs and willis alone will be costing around $20 million.
  18. Since when did we ask people entering this country to leave their heritage at the door? For these "hyphenated citzens", isn't the fact that they came here enough to suggest that they're striving "to be American" (assuming they're first generation)? so just because they say this is what they want we should give it to them? i don't see the problem of having guidelines of becoming a member of this society when that guideline consist simply of learning the language of the land. citizenship should be earned and the smallest step someone can take is actually show they can learn the language of the land, and the wantingness to fit in and be part of the society at large. Are we to assume that they'd also be expected to eat hot dogs and apple pie in lieu of bistec empanizado and flan (for Cuban-Americans)? I mean, how dare these people try to distinguish themselves from others in this country by celebrating and preserving the culture they came from. but don't you get it all those things can become an american thing to do. the most white-bread of famalies like food of other cultures as well. it is people who come here that insist they are different they are some hyphenated american. it is time to drop that, you either want to be an american or you don't, you can't be half and half. you are either an american citizen or you aren't. yet there are plenty of people who want to be some other culture and american. what's so wrong with fitting in? if they don't want to fit in then don't come here. What type of equality are you taking about? In this country, people are treated equally under the law regardless of their proficiency in the English language. So, legal equality, by and large, already exists. Therefore, the equality I think you're striving for is for people to be regarded and treated equally by members of society. As for that, please inform me how a bill like this does anything more than further highlight the differences that already exist amongst groups of people living in this country. It creates a division: the English-speaking and the non-English speaking. If people view others in this country differently simply because they speak another language, I say the problem is theirs, and we don't need legislation to give them the idea that these ill-founded beliefs are somewhat legitimate. because then the non-english speaking would become english speaking. if not in this generation then in the next. and yes it is in society that i am talking about equality. as someone else pointed out, by and large people who don't understand the language get some really crummy jobs around here just because they don't bother to understand the language. people either want to fit in or they don't. it won't be illegal to speak another language, or illegal to not understand english here for those already here legally, but they need to make a decision to either assimilate to a minimal extent of learning the local language, or not. and they need to quit feeling that they should be catered to because they are here. citizens are given all the rights in the world, but that doesn't mean they should be expected to be catered to reguardless of their language. the wanting to be treated different and catered to, unlike the majority, is what makes them different and they need to realize that. if you want equality your goeal shouldn't be to be treated different than the norm.

AXIS OF f'n EVIL!!!!!!!!! 1) IRAN 2) NORTH KOREA 3) VENEZUELA 4) RUSSIA & CHINA (soon joining) Must go after Iran now! problem with that is we got troops and money tied up all over the place. plus iran has an air force. it's been a while since we faced one. we aren't really used to having competition in the skies.
  20. As for the desire to prevent immigrants from feeling, as ^ _ ^ says, "well i will never need to learn english cause i never plan to go outside of my community here in america," why is comfort such a bad thing? We don't criticize the many English speaking people all over this country who have and never will leave their home towns. Are we supposed to believe that there is some difference between people in an immigrant community in New Mexico wanting to stay where they are and English-speaking people in a rural area of Georgia who'd like to do the same? the point i was making is without legislation like this immigrants can use that as an excuse not to learn english. no one forces anyone into a community they don't want to belong to. but if an immigrant comes here then it means they want to be part of this society, and being part of this society should include speaking the language this society converses and exchanges ideas in. it puts everyone on the same playing field because then everyone will be able to understand one another and it would just take away one more thing that seperates us as people. america can and never will be color blind as people purposely differ themselves from others especially when it comes to language. language is something people can always tell about someone else. religion, political views, sexuality, etc. are things that stay hidden until a person wants them to but as soon as someone opens their mouth it is clear if they chose to speak and understand the language of the land or not. america is not mexico, america is not france, america is not germany, etc. everyone here has assimilated to a certain point, and language really is the most basic ways of breaking into the community. everyone here has chosen to be here, or has chosen not to leave. people come here because frankly where ever they left must have sucked compared to america, otherwise they would not have come. thus you leave where you came from behind and become part of the american society. people want equality, but as long as we have cuban-americans, german-americans, or any other type of hyphenated american name, then true equality is out of reach. people should strive to be america, not a mish-mash. how can things be equal if we are a nation full of people who can not even understand one another when it just comes to the simple act of talking?
  21. If the founding fathers really meant for English to be our official language forever and ever, don't you think that's among the first things they would have taken care of? if the founding fathers really wanted blacks to be equals to whites or really meant for allowing everyone to vote reguardless of color and gender, don't you think that's among the first things they would have done? you can't use the past as a measuring stick, time changes circumstances, policies, people, society, basically everything. the founding fathers didn't have things figured out any better than we did today, and we my friend live in today thus we should use our own judgements and the ideals of the present, not those of the past. having immigrants learn english is not infringing on their liberties because they will not be forced to use it, but they will understand it if they hear it and someone speaks to them in the language. language is the most unifying and most basic parts of the human experience. it's time to end the "hypenated"-american stuff. no more latin-american, european-america, etc. everyone will be american, speaking the same and being one of the same reguardless of background. being american means you want to belong, you want to be part of the nation and being part of this nation is fitting in, being part of the melting pot, and to fit in speaking english is the first step.
  22. not just anyone can close a game. also the lack of talent doesn't help. but closers have a certain mentality. but even talent doesn't make a closer (see mota)
  23. So, I guess the Native American tribes have to give up their "savage" languages? Or better yet, what happens to Hawaiian? And what about all those state mottos in Latin? Wither "sic semper tyrannis"? What about Montana's state motto "Oro y plata"? How about we start changing our last names because they sound too "ethnic" (which happened with two of my great-grandfathers)? This is elitist racism to say the least. they are not outlawing other languages. this is a move so when they tell people trying to immigrate here they have to learn english they can point to a reason why they need to learn it. otherwise the immigrants can say "well i will never need to learn english cause i never plan to go outside of my community here in america." most other countries have official languages and i don't think they come across as racist states we just got it late in the game. and it gives americans one more thing to bind them together if everyone learns the language of the land. gee whiz we tell immigrants they need to learn the language of the land what a heartless thing to do. i doubt people care if others speak french, spanish, latin, whatever, as long as they also know english as well when they immigrate into the country. it's about being able to communicate on an equal level with everyone. step one of assimilation would be learning the language of the land. the goal is for everyone just to be american and not these "hyphenated" american jibberish.
  24. 9. Mitsubishi G360 Mitsubishi makes cell phones? :lol So they make cars, cell phones, trumpets, keyboards..... what else? tvs vcrs home theater systems etc. they have 29073086086 different branches of their company. and obviously multi-national, so they have the room and the money to do it all.
  25. I don't think that says much for our intelligence on these guys. hey in the post - 9/11 world if you are brown and have a middle eastern accent you are guilty until proven innocent. well at least that is how it seems in this instance. i think the one's still in gitmo at this point have been found to be "enemy combatants", via tribunals, but haven't really done anything thus no charges. the question is how are they defining "enemy combatant" and for some reason i think it is relatively loose. i don't think they should punish the prisoners for what they did but i don't think the guards should clean up for them. the guards are just doing their jobs.
