Why don't the Marlins bring in another catcher?
wouldnt it be he has thrown out 65% of runners while the league average is to get a steal 71% of the time?...because im pretty sure he has one of the better arms in the league at throwing out potential runners He has thrown out 35% while the league average is to throw out 29% so Treanor is better than the average at throwing out baserunners.

Matt Treanor......career average .220 OPS .604 Those numbers trump whatever defense he's plays. he plays once, maybe twice a week...what do you want? mark mcguire behind the plate or someone to keep the kids in line? personally...ill take the latter...especially how once or twice a week he can shut down the opposing running game That's nonsense. Treanor's career CS % is 65%. The MLB average is 71%. Treanor is below par at throwing out baserunners. That can't be right. 71% CS just seems wrong...I'm not doubting you personally, butI think you should check that...it's hard to be believe 71% of all stolen base attempts failed. :mischief2 ????????? You're correct. I got the numbers mixed up. Treanor throws out 35% of baserunners and that's better than the 29% average. I still don't like him and would like some real competition but I guess he's not as bad as I thought.

Should the Marlins reconsider trading Dontrelle Willis?
I agree. When I talk about a stadium deal(or lack of), I don't mean to imply that the lack of a stadium deal means they move. Where would they go? A place like Portland is going to be harder to finance a full public handout deal, like Loria would like here(or anywhere). There's few markets, and what markets there are are going to want some real money from Loria, not just the cloud of rent money. If they don't get a stadium deal done they'll likely wind up staying in Joe Robbie stadium in a limbo situation. But if they are stuck in Joe Robbie, where they can't make money unless they field a team with a payroll under 40 Million, then it would make sense to trade both Willis and Cabrera, and any other player that would command a salary of 25% of the total team payroll. That's exactly how I see it.

Should the Marlins reconsider trading Dontrelle Willis?
I understand now. It was worded like it was a certainty at first glance. And I do agree with the opinion that a city like Portland would jump all over the Marlins no matter who played for them. During the roadshow the mayor said Portland wouldn't put a dime to build a stadium.

Should the Marlins reconsider trading Dontrelle Willis?
I think if the stadium deals falls through they both get traded and even with the new stadium I think one or both may get traded before the '09 season. The stadium will not be ready for the '09 season and by then DTrain and Miguel will be in their last arbitration year and all the quality '06 rookies will be in their first arbitration year (except maybe Tank) and that means the payroll to keep that team together will be easily $70+ million. Will Loria spend $70+ million while still playing in DS? Using his crooked math he says he breaks even with a $15 million payroll so would he raise payroll to $70+ million and lose tens of millions (using his crooked math)? I doubt it. With that said trading them may not be necessarily bad. It depends on what we get in return.

Inside Dish: Tons of Marlins-related stuff
Olsen has been attached at the hip to Beinfest through two years of fan appreciation/season ticketholder nights. He isn't going anywhere. Not for Delmon Young. Not for anyone. And every time Beinfest speaks publically Scott Olsen is the first of the baby Fish (read besides DW & Miggie) to be mentioned. I've been saying all off-season I doubted any of the starting rotation would be moved because if they even get through season two performing no better than their individual record in 2006, their market value will be twice what it is today. The only scenario where I see one of them moved is if a Benitez comes in, proves himself capable of closing 40+ games in 2007 and either Garcia or Pinto (or fillintheblank) proves so dominating in spring training that he forces himself onto the 25 man roster. The earliest I think you'll see even a chance of moving one of them will the July trading deadline. I agree with you about the olsen point. To add to it he is an elite young lefty Power pitcher, something every team in MLB wants and craves. He might be asked for by every single team out there, but that doesnt mean we will be moving him. I think last year his fastball was topping in the low 90s so I wouldn't call him a power pitcher.

Nix to be named UM Offensive Coordinator
no worries this is a better choice though, not a big name and really didnt care for GT's offense but it did beat us He was going againsts Shannon's defense so that doesn't say much. THis hire shows no one wanted this job.

Dolphins Coaching Candidates
I don't have an opinion on this guy but to hire a coach without letting him hire his own coaches is idiotic to say the least. I wonder who will have final say, Cameron or Muller or another GM if Muller leaves?

Some '06 Season Numbers: NL Average: Saves - 38.6 Blown Saves - 21.8 Saves Opportunities - 60.4 Saves Percentage - 64% Marlins: Saves - 41 Blown Saves - 27 Saves Opportunities - 68 Saves Percentage - 60% With a league average bullpen (converting 64% of the saves opportunities) we would have ended up with 43.5 saves and 24.5 blown saves. Assuming that all blown saves end up in a loss (not necessarily the case, BTW) then with a league average bullpen we would have ended up with about 2.5 additional wins. The "bullpen is to blame for everything" gang chooses to forget that every team blows saves. I think the '07 bullpen projects to be worse than the '06 bullpen. We need to add 2 or 3 experienced and reliable bullpen arms. At this point the bullpen is a bigger hole than CF.

Shannon Stewart wants us...
To clarify my earlier post, what I ment was that we need to build a better bullpen and not worry so much about a centerfielder. I know it's an important position, but how many games did it lose us last year? is it really worth it to trade Nolasco and Jacobs for it? I rather see what they can do next year after fairly good rookie seasons. I'm all up for upgrading centerfied, and I do hope they find a good guy. At this point tho, finding better pitchers for the bullpen should be first priority, at least in my opinion. Last year the bullpen was 14th in ERA, 15th in saves and 12th in saves % so it was pretty bad and next year I think it will be even worse than that. Last year our CFs were dead last in OPS with .642 but that was dragged down by Reed and to a lesser extent by Reggie. A platoon of Alfredo and Ross could be in the low .700s which would be bad but not "league worst" bad. Defensively they will be terrible. I agree the bullpen is the bigger hole but if the goal is to contend for a playoff spot then we need to address both holes.

Barack Hussein Obama
The city in the news recently over racial problems is LA and LA happens to be another very liberal city. I'll bet that the overwhelming majority of those involved in the "war" who take the time to vote are most loyal voters for democrats. I don't have time right now to look this up to confirm it but I think the minority population in the South is growing faster than in any other region of the country so if the South is full of white racists then why are so many minorities moving there?
-
Barack Hussein Obama
It's fair to say that most racists that vote lean Republican. Of course I wasn't implying that all racists are Republican or that no Democrats are racist. It's just an overall trend. Do you have any facts to backup this ridiculous assertion? Boston, one of the most liberal cities in the US, is regarded by many as the most racist city in the US.

5 Worst NL Center Fielders
Can we pool our Money to Bribe someone to Post this on the Yes Nextwork next to Joe Giradi's head Every time he talks next year? Perhaps add to it a big sign "This is what gets you fired" I'm not so sure you can pin that on Girardi. As I recall, after the Loria-Girardi explosion Girardi's people leaked that he was not happy with the situation in CF and the options given to him there. He also complained about it after he was fired. Unless there is evidence to the contrary, I am pretty sure that the Reggie Abercrombie Experiment was a Beinfest baby. I agree and last time I checked Girardi is long gone and Reggie and Reed are still in the running for the CF spot.

Some unwanted players
I was looking at his ML stats to see how much CF he played in the minors but couldn't find the breakdown by OF position. I don't know but maybe he played a lot of CF with the Nats out of necessity (they had noone else) and not because he's a true CF.
-
Some unwanted players
I like Church a lot but I'm not sure he's a CF but then Alfredo and Ross aren't CFs either. A Church / Ross platoon would have a lot more punch than an Alfredo / Ross platoon. Church / Ross could realistically OPS .800 which would make it one of the better hitting CFs in MLB and would turn a major weakness into a strength (at least offensively).

Marlins, Cabrera fail to work out deal
They should have split the difference. ============ http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Agno...p&type=lgns Cabrera, eligible for arbitration for the first time, asked for a raise from $472,000 to $7.4 million and was offered $6.7 million by the Marlins. The three-time All-Star hit .339 with 26 homers and 114 RBIs last year, his third straight season with more than 110 RBIs.

Marlins still searching...
Why isn't it five? I think it's five for Hanley, Hermida, Willingham, Uggla, Jacobs, Olsen, Johnson and Nolasco. I think it's six for Anibal and Tank. I don't think Ross, Borch and Amezaga will be in MLB four or five years from now so it's irrelevant.

Pete Hernandez on Comcast re:Stadium
Here is the site with a Minute Maid Park overlay: Either way, it's going to be a tight squeeze in there, no bones about it. The one good thing about Dolphin Stadium are the outfield dimensions. I hate bandbox stadiums that turn routine flyballs into game turning homeruns like the Crawford Boxes in Minute Maid Park. I hope the tight space in the new location doesn't force them into making the stadium into a bandbox.

Antonio Alfonseca.
I couldn't tell if there was a link to the boxscore, but thanks :thumbup No boxscore link that I could find. From googling Spanish news him I think he pitched the 28th or 29th and then the 4th or 5th and then the 8th.

Darin Erstad?
Alright, I made a few minutes here to dig up some career stats. Career .286 hitter, .341 OBP, .416 SLG, 76.9 SB%, .756 OPS. Defensively, he's not too shabby, either: Career .995 Fielding % between OF and 1st. Can someone please explain what part of these statistics, would allow someone to form the opinion that Darin Erstad is a "crappy" player? Let's examine his resume since his career year (seven years ago): '06 - He only had 95 ABs with a crappy .605 OPS '05 - He was 2nd worst hitting 1B in MLB (per Yahoo) '04 - He was the worst hitting 1B in MLB (per Yahoo) '03 - He only had 258 ABs with a crappy .642 OPS '02 - He was the 4th worst hitting CF in MLB (per Yahoo) '01 - He was the 3rd worst hitting CF in MLB (per Yahoo) Crappy player.

Darin Erstad?
Being a hard-nosed player is one thing and veering away from the plate to unnecessary slam your shoulder into a catcher's face is something else. If he had to slam into Estrada to score it would be one thing (and I would applaud him) but that's not what happened as Estrada was blocking the plate with his extended leg with his body to the right of the plate. Anyway if he was less of a so called "hard-nosed" player and less of a so called "clubhouse leader" and more of an actually good MLB player then sure bring him on. Bottom line is he stinks as a MLB player.

Darin Erstad?
I also remember Roger Clemens throwing part of a bat at Mike Piazza. DIRTY! Keep that guy away from here! HAHA Alright, so Darin Erstad's not quite Roger Clemens, but I don't know that you can hold something like that against a guy, eventhough I don't recall the actual play you're talking about. But if we're gonna let our conscience get in the way, we'd better cancel Sanchez's invite to Spring Training since he was suspended for banned substance use. To compare Erstad and Clemens is ridiculous. I wouldn't mind adding a dirty player or even an a**hole as long as he can play. Erstad is a dirty player and a crappy player. When was the last time he didn't have a bad year? I don't want dirty, crappy players on my team. If you like dirty, crappy players on your team that's fine with me. Is Pete Rose known as a dirty player? He absolutely destroyed a catcher (can't remember his name right now) on a play at the plate. The catcher was never the same. Fosse. I don't remember the details of the Rose / Fosse play. I remember the Erstad play. In my opinion it was a dirty play. If you disagree that's fine. Many people thought it was dirty and many disagreed. If Erstad was a good player I wopuld welcome him. He stinks.
