Bagwell retires after 15 years
Guy was an icon when I was growing up watching baseball. Definatly a future HOFer in my mind. Good luck to him. Is he a HOFer really? :mischief2 I am not so sure...He definitely had a great career .297 BA 449 HRs 1529 RBI .408 OBP .540 SLG 202 SB 2314 hits 15 yr career Then again he has the numbers He has the numbers but nowadays too many players (hitters) have the numbers. If Bagwell belongs then Sheff, Thomas and Manny could retire today and belong and Thome and Delgado will belong after a couple of more good years. Not saying that he doesn't belong but I think the "numbers" that get you in need to be adjusted. He's borderline.

Canes New Head Coach
The defense looked more confused at times than any other defense I've ever seen on any level. It was embarassing. I blamed Coker for that, but there's no way Shannon doesn't deserve some of the blame. I'll be amazed if this is the guy that turns the program around. We'll see, but I think Miami is officially entering it's "has been" era. Are you kidding? The .500 Hurricanes were fifth in the country in total defense this year. I don't know if you're a fan of UM football or not, but if there's one aspect of the team that has been consistently exceptional from 2001-2006, it has been Randy Shannon's defense. Based on merit, the pick was a good one. Who else out there (who was actually available) would have been a better candidate? When playing vs good teams such as Louisville and Georgia Tech while the season still meant something the defense most certainly did not play like the 5th best defense in the country. The high ranking is due to a patsy filled schedule and good play in meaningless games - I'm not impressed. I don't think anyone associated with a team that has regressed 6 years in a row should be the UM coach.

Gators Are In
Tennessee is really impressive this year with one win against a top 25 team. Tennessee's win over Cal is more impressive than any Notre Dame or Wisconsin win.

Gators Are In
Michigan crushing Notre Dame on the road and Beating a tough Wisconsin team is far more impressive then beating tennessee by 1. Also the Michigan didnt win their confrence is a terrible argument and basically says that there would be no way for notre dame or temple to ever get into the national championship. The national championship is the 2 best teams in the nation not the 2 best confrence champions. Wisconsin didn't beat any of the Top 25 teams all season long. I'm not impressed by an 11-1 record when the 11 doesn't include any wins over any top team. Notre Dame only beat one of the Top 25 team all season long, No. 25 UCLA, and I'm not impressed by a 10-2 record when the major achievement in the 10 is a win over a 7-5 team. LSU, Arkansas and Tenn are more impressive wins than any Michigan win.

shouldn't matter if they are the two best teams...most people voted for florida because they didn't want to see a rematch...not because they were the better team.....and if Florida's tough schedule was so good then why did it take the xtra game to move them ahead of Michigan....why??? Because they barely beat some teams on their schedule. And those idiots who voted Michigan 4th, their voting license should be revoked. Michigan= did not win Conference and I don't care what division their in. 12-1 with a conference champ in the SEC is more impressive then 11-1 in 2nd. I don't understand the problem. Its not Michigan's fault that the number 1 team in the country is in their conference The top 2 teams in the country, believe it or not, can both be in the same conference. I dont understand the problem with that. Michigan is the 2nd best team based on what? Florida's wins over LSU, Tenn and Arkansas are more impressive that any Michigan win. Even Louisville is more deserving than Michigan.

Coaches Poll is Out
I'll go on the record and say that I hope USC wins tonight...UF just doesn't deserve to go to the title game this season You are lame sir! Anyways, I really hope Florida makes it. If Michigan goes to the title game (especially if they win), there should be riots against the BCS. There should be riots against the BCS anyways. Perhaps but not because of Michigan. The 2nd place team in a so-so (this year) conference has no valid claim to play in the title game.

Coaches Poll is Out
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankingsindex Florida is #2. I read where the computers will have Michigan #2. It's going to come down to the Harris Poll. I think you read bad information. Supposedly the computers will have Florida #2. Florida will easily pass Michigan in the final BCS poll - as they should.

Marlins broadcaster believes new park will reel in fans
everyo0ne mentions we have great tv ratings but when i saw the numbers they werent all that great....am i missing something? Can you show me the numbers? I had posted a while back looking for them. The ratings plummeted 31% this past season. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/15691659.htm The 150 Marlins games on FSN and Sun finished with a 2.9 rating -- down from a 4.2 for 95 Marlins games on FSN last season

Red Sox Sign JD Drew; 5-years / 70 million
If he stays healthy it could end up as a good signing as long as they don't trade Manny but if signing JD leads to Manny getting traded then I don't like the deal. The '07 Red Sox would be better off with Manny than with JD + prospects and if you're spending $130 million (or whatever ridiculous amount they spend) you need to make moves to win now. Taking Manny out of the lineup is huge.

Most "Absurd" Signing
Nomar for 2 years at $19 million when Loney's a ready and capable 1st baseman. Isnt Loney's sample size very small though? I know he had like 9 RBI's in one game but........ He flat out obliterated AAA at 22 this season. .380/.426/.546/.972 and it translated to a .901 OPS in his 100 AB's with the Dodgers. I'll tell you what, if the Dodgers decide to make Loney available now, even with Jacobs, I'd pounce. JD Drew opted out of his contract..Loney will start in RF They have JP, Ethier and Kemp so if Loney plays RF what happens to Kemp or Ethier? I guess they would rather overpay for veterans than play their cheap young hot-shot prospects. Idiotic.

Carlos Lee signs with Astros
Every time one of the other NL teams shoots itself in the foot as the Astros just did and the Cubs and Dodgers did a few days ago it's good news for the Marlins. Wouldn't it show that the market is increasing which will make it even harder for our organization? Pretty much we only spend minimum wage so the upper ceiling salaries wont impact us much. Some of these teams are going through money like drunken sailors with new-found money (new TV contract & new revenue sharing plan that reduced the tax paid from 40% to 31%) and you can be sure 3 or 4 years from now some of these contracts will be finacially hand-cuffing these teams and that's good news for us.

Garciaparra and Dodgers agree to $18.5 million, two-year deal
If you think it's a good move to pay $9 million a year to injury prone guys who are not good hitters when compared to their position peers then we'll agree to disagree. $9 in any other fans eyes besides Marlins fans isnt much this is the same time and age Juan Pierre is getting 5/44 ,Soriano is getting 8/136 for having a contract year the market it self is out of control I agree the market is out of control and because it's out of control they should pick and choose where to throw their money. They need starting pitching more than they need a 1B (Loney should get a shot) so they should have used Nomar's $18.5 million on pitching.

If he stays healthy its a great signing. I love Nomar but thats a pretty big "if". It's not a good move. Even if he stays healthy he'll be no better than a middle of the road bat for the position he plays. You are aware he won the Comeback Player of the Year award this season? I guess you are not aware that his OPS was about .870 which is nothing special for a 1B.

Twins' Justin Morneau wins AL MVP
Whoever voted Derek Jeter sixth needs to have their voting rights stripped, by the way. I agree. He shouldn't be on the top 10 but that's hype for you.

Dodgers sign Pierre
Money is just flying left and right. Is this god's way of taunting us for over achieving last year? :mischief2 Well GL to Juan, He is still in his 20's and can swip bases like crazy, I guess they just wanted to solve the CF position for a few more years, it's such a difficult location to fill so you can't blame them, but that is a LOT of money . . . I guess "solve" is a relative term. Lofton and just about any "X" player to platoon with would be better than JP - certainly was better this past season. This is a dumb move by the Dodgers.

MLB official hopes Crist can pave way for Marlins stadium
Usually I'm all in favor of tourist taxes but that one was a tax per day per passenger and although I don't remember the amount per day I remember I found it excessive and thought it could be a detriment to the cruise industry and the local economy and also I didn't find it particularly fair to tax one industry to build another's stadium. When the gap was $30 million (after Loria's first K with the state) the city and the county wanted to tax stadium revenues to cover the $30 million gap but unfortunately Loria wouldn't allow it. In my opinion a tax on stadium revenues would have been a fair tax. The proposed tax was $4 per day per passenger departing from Dodge Island. Miami-Dade elected officials opposed it because it would drive cruise ships away from the Port of Miami towards Port Everglades. That is understandable. Now I remember that was another of the arguments against the cruise tax. That was a bad deal for Miami-Dade.

Joe Borowski
Joe Borowski-R- Marlins Nov. 16 - 11:26 am et The Indians and Giants have joined the Phillies, Blue Jays and Red Sox among teams interested in signing free agent Joe Borowski. Cleveland might have an advantage here. Indians GM Mark Shapiro is the son of Borowski's agent, Ron Shapiro. c/o rotoworld.com Let's hope for the Phillies or Blue Jays. :thumbup BTW though: don't we have to offer arbitration to Joe-Bo in order to receive compensation ? Have we or will we ? If we don't offer arbitration we don't get the compensatory picks and I would be very surprised if we offer Borowski (or Helms) arbitration so I don't see us getting compensatory picks.

Marlins in no Rush?
Milledge's star hasn't deemed at all. It's nutty to give up on a 21 yo prospect. He's more than a year younger then Hermida.

We always had the govenor signing off on the staduim its the state senate that has always screwed us. Tom Lee is outta there so that is a huge step forward That's not really true. Jeb killed the cruise tax and rightfully so I might add.

No Major Payroll Hike expected...
It's kind of pointless to discuss free agency IN A DISCUSSION ABOUT SIGNING AN ARBITRATION-ELIGIBLE PLAYER, but also as we all know the Marlins are neither a desirable franchise or capable of outbidding the other 29 teams in the league regardless of our owner or the philosophies of our front office. There's no proof to the accusation that the Marlins have a tendency to trade quality arbitration-eligible talent prior to salary raises. So those who continue to raise such fears about Miggy and Dontrelle being traded should shut their traps or atleast focus on the specific case. Under Loria we have either traded away or not re-signed every single player that was making decent money or who was in line to make decent money. Some of those were good decisions but the fact is if a player makes decent money there's a very good shot Loria will eventually salary dump him.
