  1. Ernie Banks is a lot better an option than Ozzie Smith. Hey I'm not going to lie, Ernie Banks would be a good choice. With that said, go ask any random 40-60 year old who the best SS in baseball history was and 9/10 will say Ozzie Smith. I'm telling you, you guys are too focused on the O in a position that is defined by D. Choosing AROD over Ozzie is like choosing Hampton over Koufax because Hampton has a better career BA. ARod is a much better hitter than what Banks was and ARod at SS was pretty good with the glove. ARod is widely regarded as baseball's best all-time SS so I doubt 90% of the 40-60 year old gang will say Ozzie was better.
  2. Rather than hitting Dunn 2nd due to his high OBP I would keep him 3rd, 4th or 5th but would make him be more aggressive with RISP which would better utilize his power and would improve run production. In his career with no one on he walks once every 8 PAs but with RISP he walks once every 4 PAs. With the added aggressiveness his RISP OBP would go down but his run production would increase.
  3. Who was more deserving than ARod?????? Uh, how about Ozzie Smith? He's arguably the greatest defensive player ever at ANY position in the history of baseball. It's not all about the O, you know... In a defensive position, the guy had 13 GG and 15 AS on his resume. Those 15 AS selections and 13 GG speak louder to me than a career .264 batting average. There's a reason he was a first ballot no-brainer and the ONLY person to get selected to the 2002 HOF Class. Okay, so you think Ozzie is better than ARod. Do you also think Vizquel and Aparicio are better than ARod? These guys are also defensive wizards who won a bunch of GGs.
  4. [/b]I think UM is getting more blame then they should in the fight. Both teams deserve equal blame and the idiot anouncer was fired. now just need coker gone BBBD to UM! I didn't watch the game but from what I've read and heard most in the local media (and Admin Coker) say FIU started it. I guess UM has really bad luck because teams are always "starting" it against them given that they get into more such incidents that any other school but apparently it's never their fault given that Admin has supposedly done such a good job cleaning the program.
  5. Dunn is one of those guys that is too patient with RISP and that's the reason for his low run production. I wouldn't want him even if we got him for nothing. He's not worth the money he makes.
  6. The object of the game is to win. To do that the team has to put the best talent possible together. Chris Aguila's role was marginal. If he couldn't produced off the bench we need to get someone who can. Cody Ross made his claim for the 4th Outfielder. Aguila isn't quite as good as Cody, therefore he is expendable If Chris had gotten the consistent playing time given to Cody I think there's a good chance he would have matched or exceeded Cody's .212 AVG and .680 OPS.
  7. I think AROD is a stretch at SS, but I guess they needed another SS... Who was more deserving than ARod??????
  8. Aguila was never given a chance. This year he was a victim (just like the Marlins as a whole) of the love affair with the garbage man, when he performed better than Reggie when allowed to play. BTW, he had multiple hits in 4 of the 12 games in which he was allowed 4 ABs. I agree. If given a chance I don't know if he would have been better than the guys we picked up from the scrap pile but I know he was a in our organization for several years and did a good job in the minors and to me that made him more deserving of a real shot than the scrap pile guys.
  9. There are quite a few pitchers that should be on there before Koufax. Pedro, Seaver, Gibson, Maddux, Marichal and Palmer are just a few.
  10. Hutton blows. His jokes are just sad. He constantly bitches about the lack of fans. Deal with it, endlessly complaining about it hasn't helped and won't ever help. Hutton sticks up for his team, ravages the umps, calls out the managers, and really is a fan at work. Before this season Hutton never questioned anything any of our managers ever did. He began questioning and even ridiculing Girardi after it was obvious Girardi was getting fired.
  11. Hutton has passion, that's why he's the man. Seriously, you guys should get MLB Extra Innings just to see how much better Waltz and Hutton are compared to every other announcer in baseball. You don't realize how good you have it. I have MLB Extra Innings. I think Hutton is a much better homer and shill than most other color guys. I think Waltz is fine compared to other play-by-play guys.
  12. It's ridiculous to mention Mattingly as a Hall of Famer. Will Clark is no Hall of Famer but he belongs in there before Mattingly. Mattingly in the HOF would further dilute and cheapen the HOF. Edgar Martinez has the number to be the first full time DH in history in the HOF it may happen we will have to wait and see. I am rooting for him He doesn't belong in the HOF. He put up good numbers but there are many others who played when he played that put as good or better numbers. Borderline guy but he doesn't belong.
  13. To me even more annoying than his attendance whining is his never ending whining about umpires. Hutton is no better than one of those whiny fans who thinks the umps are always out to get his team.
  14. Can we just have him replace Tommy Hutton? I wish. Don who is very good especially talking about pitching.
  15. I wouldn't add more wildcards. I would make all the rounds best of 7 with the team with the better record getting 5 home games and I would have only 1 day off in each series.
  16. I have no problem with Fox firing him. It was an obviously racially insensitive comment.
  17. I think he deserved more of a shot than Reed, Abercrombie, Ross, Borchard or Alfredo.
  18. With time, Hanley will not K more than 60 times a year. Why do you think he'll dramatically cut down on his Ks? I think as he continues to develop he'll be more of a hard swinging power hitter and that means he's likely to continue to K a lot. Note that I have no problem with his Ks, I'm just wondering why you think he'll cut down on them. Some of us knew the offense would be better than in 2005 before the season started. Considering that it was Uggla that probably accounted for us being 2-4 teams higher in many categories that's an impressive thing that you knew beforehand. What was your prediction before the season started for HR's, RBI's, and Runs from Uggla? There were a few of us who thought our offense would be better as a whole. That's true. I was one of them. I THOUGHT they had the potential to be better, and it turned out that overall they were. But to say that some of us "KNEW" as El Penguino says is ridiculous. Nobody could have known. All that anyone could reasonably say is basically what you say...that you "thought" the team had the potential to be better. Hanley also blew past everyone's expectations. I have a hard time believing anyone knew or expected this team would be a better hitting team than the '05 team. For the record both teams finished 8th in runs scored and OPS. hermida needs a have a big year next year, or he's gonna have some doubting him.--(already happening) well thats just stupid Coming into the '06 season the RF job was Jeremy's. Recently I read a Beinfest quote saying Jeremy would have competition for the RF job going into '07. Who knows what the "competiton" will be but I don't think he had "competition" in ST '06.
  19. As long as you have Cabrera, Uggla, Hanley and Willingham as starters you're going to have a lot of Ks. I have no problem with any of these guys in the lineup even if they K a lot. Olivo and Jacobs will also K a lot and I have no problem with them in the lineup either. If the Marlins don't want to be towards the "top" of the league in Ks then they need to turn the roster upside down because we have a lot of good hitters who happen to K a lot. I would take good hitters who K a lot over mediocre hitter who don't K a lot. Did you just talk about our starters that K and not mention Mike Jacobs? Who cares how much Miguel K's when he gets on base better than anyone except for one player in the National League. Uggla need to be more patient, sure, but when you blow expectations out of the water as he did, it doesn't quite matter. With time, Hanley will not K more than 60 times a year. And Willingham should have improved walk totals next season. Maybe the same K rate, but his OBP should go up. I talked about Jacobs and Olivo in the 3rd sentence. I made a distinction between Jacobs / Olivo and Cabrera/ Uggla / Hanley / Willingham because although all six of them K a lot I feel confident that Cabrera / Uggla / Hanley / Willingham will be good hitters going forward. I don't have the same level of confidence about Jacobs and Olivo.
  20. Just wanted to mention that A-Rod, who everyone loves, Ked more times than any Marlin this year. When looking at hitters I'm more concerned with his how often he gets hits, extra base hits, walks, etc. and not what kind of outs he makes when he makes an out.

  22. I don't care whether players can or cannot have facial hair. I'm more concerned about Fredi's bunting than Fredi's view on facial hair.
  23. 1. Who was the best offensive position player of 2006? The worst? 2. Who was the best defensive position player of 2006? The worst? 3. Who was the best bench player of 2006? The worst? 4. Who was the best starting pitcher of 2006? The worst? 5. Who was the best relief pitcher of 2006? The worst? Whats everyones opinion? 1. Miguel, Reggie 2. None, Reggie 3. Helms, Reggie 4. Anibal, Moehler 5. Borowski, Messenger
  24. Question for Lou or someone else... I think DTrain has 3 more arbitration years and ARod has 4 years left in his Yankee contract. My question is if we were to sign DTrain to a 4 year contract how much money are we looking at? I guess I'm trying to determine how much ARod money the Yankees need to eat to make ARod and DTrain a wash money wise. I would say we could sign a 4 year contract anywhere from $35-$45 million. $35 would be a "Marlins discount" type of deal, $45 should be a sure thing, but we may never know the answer if the Marlins trade Dontrelle before even making him an offer. If the Yankees eat $25 million of ARod's contract then ARod would cost us about the same as what DTrain would cost us. The $25 million is a lot of money but the Rangers are eating more than that.
