  1. If Uttley or Howard are crowding the plate and you feel that gives them an unfair advantage then back them off the plate to take their unfair advantage away. It makes no sense to let them crowd it and then when they kick your ass you retaliate by hitting the .200 hitter. What makes more sense to you, to back off the plate the guys that can hurt you or to hit the guy who can't hurt because you were unwilling to back off the plate the guys who can hurt you?
  2. Because he's a former top draft pick coming off an incredible minor league season and a record debut? He was the natural choice for both rookie of the year and one of few Marlins most people even knew about. What incredible minor league season???
  3. They kick your ass so you throw at them? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. How about not letting them kick your ass?
  4. JJ - Tim Robbins Kensing - Owen Wilson Samson - the AFLAC Duck (Gilbert Gottfried)
  5. Why is Abreu in there? He doesn't belong in any Marlins killer list. :lol :lol Evidently you were not a Marlins fan from 2000-2002 Look at his entire career vs the Marlins. Why is Abreu in there? He doesn't belong in any Marlins killer list. :lol :lol Evidently you were not a Marlins fan from 2000-2002 Look at his entire career vs the Marlins. I just looked. For a guy hitting 3rd in the lineup who is supposed to be a run producer Abreu only has 72 RBIs in 146 games vs the Marlins. That is not Marlins killer material. His overall OBP and SLG are good but I wish there was a site with his RISP vs the Marlins. I'll bet those numbers are pathetic. I'll bet you they are not. And I wish there was a site that had a stat of his "close and late" stats against the Marlins from 1999-2002. :whistle I cant believe Im even having a discussion in reference to whether or not Bobby A is a Marlins Killer or not. Ridonkulous If his RISP numbers vs the Marlins are so good how do you explain a guy hitting 3rd having only 72 RBIs in 146 games against the Marlins? Other than the cleanup hitter #3 hitters get the most RBI opportunities so for a guy hitting 3rd to have only 72 RBIs in 146 games is pathetic.

  7. Blame goes to the FO. It was obvious the team needed bullpen help and another OF and they did nothing. Did they do nothing because Beinfest couldn't add payroll? I'm not sure. In an article in the Sun-Sentinel he made it sound as if he couldn't add payroll but unfortunately the writer didn't get a straight answer out of him. Bottom line is the FO did nothing. Blame goes to Beinfest or Loria depending on whether Beinfest did nothing because he chose to do nothing or because he couldn't do anything because Loria wouldn't add payroll.

  9. If the season ended today Hanley should win it but Uggla would win it. Willingham would have won it had he stayed healthy. The injury killed his chances.
  10. -- an owner who can afford a stadium -- a finalized downtown stadium deal -- two or more reliable veteran relievers -- a reliable CF -- a good 4th OF as insurance in case Jeremy will be what he is now -- no more Moehler, Reggie and Treanor -- Olivo, Helms & Alfredo in the roster -- Juan Pierre anywhere but here Also looking forward to see how the rookies develop. I'm sure some will improve but others will regress.
  11. Under no circumstance should there be more than 2 or 3 position players ahead of Willingham. Chuck James should be in there somewhere.
  12. Willinghan should have gotten a shot in '04. The Encarnacion the Dodgers forced us to take in that trade had a bad shoulder and he played like guy with a bad shoulder. Ya but he was also a guy that could have helped in the playoff race. It's kinda absurd to think that the Fish would give a rookie a shot in the outfield when they were in contention. I don't think it's absurd at all. Why do you think rookies cannot contribute in a playoff race? I edited my original post because although I know the Dodgers were desperate to dump Encarnacion I don't know if we got him because we wanted him or because they forced us to take him.

  14. I dont see him back next season because he should get pretty good money elsewhere and well I dont see us paying for it. Im a big fan of Olivo but I would like someone who isnt as much of a defensive liability. Olivo's not a free agent. A player needs 6 full years of major league service to be able to declare free agency. That he was released at one point doesn't absolve him of meeting that requirement. It simply meant that his team no longer wanted his services. If we don't offer him arbitration doesn't he become a free agent?
  15. Before this season many raved about him, but I was skeptical. We were wondering if he would be our catcher, and that didn't work out. So then we put him in left, and he looked bad out there, combined with a hand injury and the following slump....I was begining to think that we should trade him to the AL for some spect. However, his bat has been even better than I thought and his defense in left is improving with every game. Sure he isn't the most graceful left fielder, but I can see him as MAnny Ramirez type, obviously we don't expect outrageous power but certainly 25-30 homers. He has a good arm and is learning to play the teal monstah like manny plays tthe green monstah. This man is real. Your thoughts? I think he can be a .280 hitter with 25 to 30 homers and a good number of walks... maybe a .900 OPS. I'm so happy to see him do well as I've thought he got screwed by the team the past couple of seasons. In '04 and '05 the team needed an offensive boost and here he was putting up ridiculous numbers in the minors but that wasn't enough to get a shot. Last year when he was called up he had the highest OPS of all players in all of the minors but that wasn't enough. He was called up to rot on the bench. Willingham now leads all rookies in OPS with .880. Ethier is 2nd with .877 and Uggla 3rd with .851. With runners on it's Uggla, Willingham and Zimmerman with .980, .930 and .917, respectively. With RISP it's Zimmerman, Ethier and Uggla with .890, .871 and .862, respectively. Willingham's RISP OPS is .767. If over the next 16 games Willingham keeps doing what he's done the past 2 months he'll open up a sizable OPS gap over the other position players and I think he would be the most deserving position player for ROY. He needs to stay hot.
  16. I would bring Olivo back as the main catcher. I think his recent struggles can be in part attributed to playing just about everyday the past 6 weeks. A catcher shouldn't play more than 4 out of 5 games and I think he's worn out. I know a lot of people like Treanor but to me he's not a MLB player. This is the 2nd year in a row, under 2 different managers, that the manager is reluctant to use him down the stretch and to me if you're reluctant to use a guy when the games matter most then it's time to get another guy. We need a backup who the manager feels confortable in using throughout the entire season to allow the main catcher to remain "fresh" the entire season.
  17. When ESPN has the exact same statistic, yet Jeter has vastly better numbers in it, I'd consider that statistic to be disputed, thus the statistic is really up to inteperation. This causes the lack of credibility. The MLB and ESPN stats are different stats, they use different formulas. Just because they're different stats doesn't make the MLB stat meaningless and it doesn't give it a lack of credibility. I suggest you look up the MLB formula and then look up Jeter's stats under the MLB formula and what you'll find is that this season Jeter has been pathetic in the 7th inning or later in one run or tied games. If you think the MVP should go to a guy who choked all season long in the most clutch of situations that's fine with me.
  18. FWIW, I have been puzzled by many of Girardi?s in-game moves but I think it?s only fair to point out that everything we have heard/read comes from the Marlins. We have not really heard anything from Girardi?s side. He?s been tight-lipped. I still firmly believe this will be a PR hit for the Marlins as Girardi has been generally perceived to be doing a great job. It looks to me like all this information coming out is an attempt to sway that widespread opinion. I agree 100%. I think management is trying to torpedo him to sully his reputation to reduce the bad press they get when they get rid of him.
  19. Did anyone here Sid Resenberg on the 790 today rip girardi, about last nights game, its not only most of us who think he did a piss poor job yesterday or on ther games, and dont start w/ the excuse of bunch of rookies and look at their record, but all these rookies are talented and some nasty. He also mentioned how him and boog talk about girardi so i cant wait to hear what boog has to say about it. even tommy hutton talked about it yesterday that jake shouldve been hitting for olivo, " you replaced jake vs heilman for aguila vs wagner" hmmm damn i think i'll take the first match up even though chris got a hit. yes the ump sucked also cause if jobo strikes out delgado or wright which he did then its a 1 run game and wagner has more pressure and who knows what couldve happened Lets just win tonight But damn girardi plz dont f*** up this one, also plz start ross and jo and not amezega remember glavine is a lefty!!! The way Hutton ripped Girardi last night is a good indicator Girardi is gone after the season. Over his 10 years as the color guy Hutton has rarely ever questioned or criticized anything any Marlin manager has done but the past few days he has questioned move after move. That tells me he's gotten the okay from management to be critical of Girardi.
  20. Girardi's status is still tenuous With the Marlins continuing to amaze, why does manager Joe Girardi remain in jeopardy of losing his job at season's end? The more we hear, the more it becomes clearer why owner Jeffrey Loria issued another ''no comment'' this week regarding Girardi's future. For starters, there's a misperception that Loria's problems with Girardi are mostly the result of the manager telling Loria not to yell at the umpires during a game in July. Loria was livid at the time, and had to be convinced to change his mind about firing him. But if Girardi -- who obviously has done an exceptional job -- is fired in October, that won't be the reason. The fact that Girardi suggested some questionable personnel moves in spring training (such as moving Miguel Cabrera to first base) also won't be the reason. Baseball officials close to the situation say the main issue has been this: Loria likes his organization run collectively, with the front office having input beyond player procurement. And too often, Girardi has resisted those suggestions, causing a significant strain between him and the front office, including GM Admin Beinfest. ''It has been a constant fight,'' one of the officials said. The Marlins should have known there would be trouble in November, when they recommended Girardi keep pitching coach Mark Wiley, who was brushed off by Girardi. (The Marlins have been pleased with his replacement, Rick Kranitz.) Among the numerous internal disagreements the past few months was Girardi's decision often to use Matt Treanor to catch Dontrelle Willis and Scott Olsen earlier in the season. The front office wanted Miguel Olivo to play more often. In Girardi's defense, he has played Olivo a lot more in the second half, though Treanor's stint on the DL was a factor. For much of the season, Girardi's approach, according to one of the officials, has been ''very controlling, like I'll run this team the way I want to run this team.'' When front-office officials ask Girardi after games why he made certain decisions, he hasn't been particularly responsive, which also has been an issue. In general, ''the manager is accountable to the front office and should be receptive to those discussions,'' said ESPN analyst and ex-Mets GM Steve Phillips, who said those discussions are sometimes better held the next day. Girardi's game strategy also has been questioned internally at times. Management was unhappy that he didn't walk the Phillies' Ryan Howard on Friday during the at-bat in which he hit his second homer off Olsen. (Howard was intentionally walked twice Saturday.) Here's how the situation stands now: There remains sentiment internally to make a managerial change at season's end, and several baseball people close to the situation expect it. But because Loria, like most people, is subject to changing his mind, it's quite possible Girardi could survive. The other question is whether Girardi would even want to return or if he would pitch a buyout on the last two years of his contract. The Cubs job, expected to be vacant, assuredly would appeal to him. Phillips said Girardi ''would be at the top of the list to be interviewed'' for whatever managerial job is open. ''He has clearly proven he can develop young players. That would be letting a valuable asset go,'' Phillips said. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport.../printstory.jsp I give Girardi about a 1% chance of coming back.
  21. A 22-year-old rookie, Johnson threw 73 pitches, and the right-hander felt some tightness so he was removed after five innings. "The rain delay in that situation hurt us," Girardi said on how the stoppage impacted Johnson's night. "He's OK. He got a little stiff, so we took him out. He's fine. There is nothing wrong with him physically. He got tight. He had to warm up twice. It was a fairly lengthy delay. It's tough." But according to the geniuses Giradi should have kept him in the game.
  22. Derek Jeter does not deserve the MVP. I don't see how you can possibly make a case that Derek Jeter absolutely DOES NOT deserve the MVP. I feel 4-5 players are plenty deserving, and I could make a pretty rich case for any of them. I think a guy who goes an entire season without an extra base hit in "close and late" situations does not deserve the MVP. He's a good player having a good season but he's no MVP. http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/...amp;compare.y=8 Close and late is a disputed stat, it has no crediblity. By saying that "close and late" has no credibility are you saying that Jeter's pathetic performance in the 7th inning or later in one run or tied games over this entire season doesn't really matter?
  23. Not to hate, but Miguel has had a handful of strikeouts to end games. Cabrera is having a great year with RISP and in "close and late" situations but even a guy doing great in those situations is going fail 4 out of 10 times. Do you expect him to get a hit every time?
  24. The umpire in no way gave the game to the Mets. The ump was terrible, but he was terrible all around. Let's not fall into that trap. We did enough to blow this on our own. That's kind of how I see it. There were bad calls on both sides. I believe that over a 162 game season the bad calls pretty much even themselves out so unless you're one of those fans that thinks the umps are out to get your team then there's no point in complaining about it. I agree with the criticism about Helms bunting and Jacobs not PH for Olivo but some of the other stuff is ridiculous.

If Verlander stumbles and Weaver gets to 14 or 15 wins and keeps his ERA in the low 2.00s I think he could win it.
