I would bring Olivo back as the main catcher. I think his recent struggles can be in part attributed to playing just about everyday the past 6 weeks. A catcher shouldn't play more than 4 out of 5 games and I think he's worn out. I know a lot of people like Treanor but to me he's not a MLB player. This is the 2nd year in a row, under 2 different managers, that the manager is reluctant to use him down the stretch and to me if you're reluctant to use a guy when the games matter most then it's time to get another guy. We need a backup who the manager feels confortable in using throughout the entire season to allow the main catcher to remain "fresh" the entire season.

Olivo is fine. He's just worn out. We have bigger problems to worry about, seriously.

Olivo's earned a role on next year's squad. I see them improving the backup spot, but not with any intentions of replacing Olivo. I think Beinfest recognizes fluke one-year performances (why do you think he avoids signing players to long contracts?), but trusts Olivo well enough not to replace him. Although there may be affordable catchers who could offer more than Olivo. IMO we should sign one of those, but that's easy to say. I don't also have to worry about keeping Olivo happy or the implication that I don't respect Olivo's accomplishments nor do I have a number of other guys who had solid but unspectacular seasons who will worry I might replace them.

There's no way Treanor is an everyday player :lol

If he puts up similar offensive numbers I dont mind having him back

Olivo has been in a serious rut for about a month now. Hopefully it's just a fluke, but I think more likely the fluke was his great start.

Not sure what he meant, but his point is fairly accurate. Through arbitration he would make more than the Fish might want to pay. Who knows.

The only name I can think of that would make some degree of sense is Mike Piazza, but that probably won't happen (nor am I advocating it).

 

Regardless of the outcome of this season, the offseason should have two goals: 1. Improving the bullpen. 2. Finding some player who will make the league pitch to Cabrera.

Oh. In that case (which I'm not sure why anyone would find interesting), then, yes he would be a free agent. But say he signs on with another club and they keep him all year. He still would not have 6 full major league service years so he when the next club decides whether to offer arbitration or not, Olivo again has no say in the matter.

Olivo has done everything we asked of him just needs to get alot more rest but since were still in the race we need him in the lineup.

 

During the offseason if he does stay with the Marlins I am sure he will work more on his defense and by Opening Day next year more of his glove work will be tuned up. I love his arm and quickness, just wish that he could stay back more on 2 strikes.

I'd say give Olvio another chance in 2007

We have a pretty good catcher until someone comes along and outplays him. I don't see that happening for awhile! Treanor is a positive presence on the Team and is very good defensively...He will battle Hoover in ST for his roster spot

I think Olivo is our catcher and Treanor is our backup, just like this year.

I would just like to see Olivo draw more walks His BB to K ratio is gastly, and that glove needs some work.

June: 2 BB 13 K with a .408 BA 3 HR 16 RBI, his best month

July: 0 BB 14K

August: 2 BB 18 K

September: 1 BB 12 K Only 12 Games! batting .143 0 HR 4 RBI

 

The surpising thing is, he's only 6th on the team in Strike outs.
