  1. You are missing his point completely I think. He never said he WILL become a great player who reaches his potential, however you seem to be saying since his age means nothing and that he should be great right out of the gates which means nothing. I didn't say his age means nothing. I said age means more, a lot more, if one guy is 21 and the other 23. Since when does being older make you better? It means nothing if you have the same amount of MLB experience, especially since Hermida has been hurt for long stretches. I think a guy who is 21 years old is just a baby in MLB terms. At that age almost all players his age are either in college or in AA or below.

  3. Hermida .226/.320/.423 (742) Delmon .281/.311/.417 (728) Does Delmon Young suck? Young is a couple of years younger than Hermida. If you're 21, like Young is, I'll certainly buy the age excuse but at 23 the age excuse just doesn't carry as much weight as it does at 21. Big difference between 21 and 23, don't you agree? Hermida has 516 ABs over parts of three seasons to Young's 462 over two seasons. 58 more ABs is hardly a 'big difference'. My point has nothing to do with ABs. The "big difference" is in their age. I think there's a big difference between ages 21 and 23. If you don't think there's a big difference between 21 and 23 we'll have to disagree.
  4. Tony Gwynn at the age of 23: .727 Craig Biggio, 23: .737 Paul O'Neill, 23: 2 major league at bats Ryan Howard, 23: No major league at bats David Ortiz, 23: no hits in 20 ML at bats Travis Hafner, 23: No ML At bats Michael Young, 23: 2 ML At bats Johnny Damon, 23: .723 in 472 At Bats Carlos Delgado, 23: .609 in 91 At bats Matt Holliday, 23: No ML At bats Ryne Sandberg, 23: .667 Moises Alou, 23: 4 hits in 20 ML At bats Jason Bay, 23: No ML At Bats Because of their struggles at the age of 23, none of these players were capable of being productive in the majors. Now that you made a list of those who sucked at 23 and went on to have successful careers why don't you make out the list of those who sucked at 23 and went on to suck the rest of their career? That way you'll present the full picture.
  5. I think most here hold Ed Kaplan in good stead as the most knowledgeable and Marlins sympathetic guy on South Florida radio. For anyone listening I wonder if you were as surprised as I was about his bluntness in discussing Hermida's level of play. He was particularly outraged by Hermida's aloofness concerning his flyball error last night, and wondered out loud what the team (I wasn't sure if he was talking about his teammates or the FO) would have done had they lost 5-4 instead of won 6-5. Someone tell me Kaplan hasn't pretty much written of the kid? Sure sounded like he's seen enough. I was actually very surprised to hear how outspoken he was on the subject. He's on right now if anyone's interested. Hermida seems to be the subject du jour. And he continues to trash Hermida. Yawn. I bet Ed Kaplan hated Elvis and the Beatles too. Those crazy kids and their OPS+ and EQA! if it means anything, Ed Kaplan didn't think Mark Redman was any good when he came to SoFla either (I know that's apples to oranges but he should stick to soccer) I'll give you a better one.. Kaplan hated the first Benitez acquisition.
  6. '90s. The Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Goodfellas, Schindler's List, The Usual Suspects, Silence of the Lambs, Fargo, Magnolia, Reservoir Dogs, Being John Malkovich - just to name a few off the top of my head. The 90s also featured the indy boom which has given us a great many classic films. It also spotlighted the animation rebirth, with companies like Pixar taking animated movies to the next level. I'm sure if you do a ridiculously long analysis of the decades, you may find a better overall decade, but for me it's as good as it gets. If you liked Reservoir Dogs maybe check out Kansas City Confidential (from the 50's) which is the movie from where Tarantino stoled (or borrowed, if you prefer) the hiding of the identities idea.
  7. I'll say 50's then probably 40's.
  8. His defense has nothing to do with it. If you truly feel that's why he's not going to the game, then you are kidding yourself. I think you're kidding yourself. If Hanley played good D I have no doubts he would have beat out Hardy in the players vote. I think last night he played his best defensive game.
  9. Hermida has been downright pathetic this season. He is an awful defender and his age can not be blamed for that. Still, until Cody Ross is ready to come back the Marlins have no choice but to let him play everyday because they don't have anything better. I'm not calling for Hermida to get benched but I see him platooning with Ross when he returns unless he wakes up one day and looks in the mirror and says....."I'm much better than I've been playing and it's time to show that on the field". Also, I'm getting a little tired of hearing about his great eye as I watch him whiff at an alarming rate. Pathetic? In the field only, you mean, right? On the field pathetic.. with the bat not good enough for a RF.

  11. I'll never understand how some people find those skin covered melon looking things attractive. You mean big ass titties? lol I absolutely LOVE big ass titties. I just wouldn't call the melon-looking like masses of silicon under her skin "titties". I call them what they are.. melon-looking like masses of silicon. She would look so much better if she took those things out.
  12. I think Jacobs will be given through next year. Same with Hermida. They'll both make minimun wage and that's the key.
  13. This moron should have been fired weeks ago when allowed himself to become a political pawn for Klein, Nelson and Wasserman Schultz.
  14. I don't think someone should be called stupid because he questions whether Hermida will be a superstar and that's what you and your cohorts routinely do. His struggles in '06 and '07 have made his future much more of a question mark than what it was 18 months ago.
  15. guy is struggling and has an OBP of .320 which happens to be the same exact obp of dan uggla, yet no one bitches about him. Well right now Uggla is one the better 2B in MLB while Hermida is one of the worst RF in MLB. There's more to a baseball player than OBP. :lol :lol :lol Like what, tons of K's and about average defense? Like a thing called slugging.. have you not heard of it? After you search the intenet and figure out what this slugging thing is maybe look up where Uggla ranks among 2B. I'll save you the time... he ranks 2nd. I think that's a good thing.
  16. Nobody is celebrating Hermida right now, but the constant whining and bitching about a young player who IMO is the third most important position player for this teams future is getting old. Hermida is going to be very, very good one day(soon) and all of you people who are constantly complaining about a 23 year old in the majors are going to look foolish when he is putting up a .900+ OPS year in and year out. If you want to keep looking stupid though, go ahead. No they won't. They'll be the very first to say they always loved this guy. Isn't it the same posters that during ST this year were so high on Borchard they wanted him to be our CFer, saying things like he is the best OFer in our orginazation, and are now the very first to complain about him? Heck, Hanley and Miggy make more errors than anyone else on the team and who do they blame for the majority of them? Jake. Like he is supposed to have some kind of cartoon type glove with Rubber Man arms. I could be wrong but I think most of the "Hermida is a superstar" gang wanted Borchard in CF and wanted Cody cut because Cody struggled in ST and to make it even funnier these experts will tell you ST doesn't count but ST is the reason they wanted Cody cut.
  17. guy is struggling and has an OBP of .320 which happens to be the same exact obp of dan uggla, yet no one bitches about him. Well right now Uggla is one the better 2B in MLB while Hermida is one of the worst RF in MLB. There's more to a baseball player than OBP.
  18. you mean the answer is his 229 ba? The guy is horrible... can't we get a penalty box to put these guys in? Are you aware that Hermida is one of the worst hitting RFs in MLB baseball? Are you aware that Hermida is one of the worst, if not the worst, defensive RF in MLB? He may turn out to be a good player but as of right now he's a really bad player compared to other MLB RFs. But I agree with you in that compared to pitchers and catchers he's a damn good hitter... but I don't think that's a relevant comparison.
  19. I think after today's performance Hermida should get an early induction into Cooperstown. I think you're getting carried away with the HOF talk but I think now he's the odds-on favorite to win the MVP award. His OPS is up to an incredible .748!!! Still hating I wasn't hating on Hermida. I was snickering at the ones who think of Hermida as a budding superstar based on the iffiest logic.
  20. This was a comment made through another thread that Amezaga was an average defender. I felt it deserved it's own thread If he is then... On how many other teams would Amezaga be the starting CF in the Majors (Not counting the Marlins) You could say the same thing about our left fielder, right-fielder, first base, and catcher. That's life in the low-payroll league. But on the bright side, IMO Amezega has looked good this year, and Willy has made some real progress defensively. The book is still out on Hermida, but hopefully he'll have a strong second half on offense and defense. Hammer hits enough to start for a bunch of teams and his defense is not as bad as you say it is. I agree on the others.

  23. Always fun to come back to a post you started to find 100 responses. I wasn't serious about trading Hermida, I even used a smiley face, come on people, have you BEEN on the internet long ? (see how i implied sarcasm?) eh, no one had a clue that you were apparently kidding Speak for yourself.. or for everyone except you being that pretty much everyone went off the deep end in this thread after this was posted It was in a way amusing to read people who missed it calling him a retard and stupid and other names.
  24. Bob, yes, there's some luck involved, but to assume, as you do, that players' yearly fluctuations are only due to luck is insane, in my opinion. Lowell's '05 season is the perfect example. His numbers declined because he had a bad year and not because he had bad luck.
