  1. The thing that annoys me the most about this team is the inconsistent offense. In a week, our scores look somewhat like this: Monday: 8 runs Tuesday: 1 run Wednesday: 7 runs Thursday: 3 runs Friday: 10 runs Saturday: 2 runs Sunday: 6 runs That pisses me off too, one day they look like murderer's row and the next day they can't hit the ball off a tee. That line's actually pretty good. We scored 6 or more runs four times. You should win those games. The other three are bad but you're supposed to lose those kinds of games. So our record should be 4-3 in that span. Instead, we're 2-5. The problem is not the offense. It's the defense and pitching. I think he made up those numbers but it prompted me to look at our record when we score and allow so many runs. Here it is: Runs allowed: ============= 5 or more: 8-31 4 or less: 25-7 Runs scored: ============ 5 or more: 28-8 4 or less: 5-30
  2. As of right now Uggla and Hanley don't belong.
  3. :barf JJ was alittle rusty. Not what I expected - hopefully his next start will be a lot better Jeremy needs to stop looking pretty in RF and start catching the ball Carroll looked good tonight - 2/3 2 runs scored and 1BB. Good eye at the plate. He did not swing at crap in the dirt. Very nice. Offense was shell shocked again. We cant score more than 2 runs in an inning. Situational hitting was horrible again. Olivo was back to his old self. Those pitches were no where near the zone. New day tomorrow...but it looks like the Sox busted out of their slump End. The supposedly shell shocked offense got 12 hits and scored 6 runs which is pretty good, I think. The game was lost because of poor pitching and poor defensive play. The only one that had a good defensive game was your whipping boy Olivo.
  4. Boone is taking some unwarranted flak. And even tho I am not a big Jeremy fan I am cutting him some slack so far. Because of his injuries last year and this year I still look at him as a rookie OFer learning the ropes of his position. Let's see him stay healthy for a couple months straight before we really start smacking him around. I agree about Boone but disagree about Jeremy. I may be wrong but I believe he played RF his entire minor league career so I don't think it's fair to say he's still learnign the position. If you said that about Hammer who began playing LF last year I would buy it but Jeremy was drafted 5 years ago so he's played RF 5 years. He takes poor routes, has trouble catching the ball and he doesn't have a particularly accurate arm.
  5. You know what else is an important difference? 109 OPS+ in 03 171(HOLYSHIT!!!11!@&$@*) OPS+ in 07 :o Bob, where can you find these kinds of statistics? http://www.baseball-reference.com/c/cabremi01.shtml His OPS+ has improved every single year. That could be a record. '03 - 109 '04 - 130 '05 - 151 '06 - 159 '07 - 171
  6. The won / loss record for pitchers can be the most misleading stat and this is a fine example of that. If it was up to me pitchers wouldn't be assigned wins and losses.
  7. Then they can go home and get in line like the rest of folk waiting still to become legal and following the proper ways. I have nothing against individuals coming to this country to live, work and raise their own family. But, there is a proper way to handle things and they didnt handle it. They should therefore not recieve benefits for their Illegal Actions. What you ignore is some folks cannot get in legally. If you had to choose between entering the US illegally and been able to work and been able to feed your family or staying in your home country and not been able to work and not been able to feed your family what would you choose?
  8. I think this is a very legitimate question. I saw the Lee/Hermida comparison. Two points; one, Lee bounced up and down his first couple of years due to his pretty awful play early in his career - and that was on a horrible team. Two, Lee's late success has no bearing on Hermida's potential late term success, it just establishes that some guys are late bloomers. That's the entire point ha. But some guys never bloom and that's a possibility the kool-aid drinkers refuse to acknowledge. No, but fans and hopefully the team will allow something more than 500 or so carreer PAs before dumping a potential superstar. I agree. I think it's nutty to call him a bust but it's just as nutty to predict great things out of him. Right now the guy is a big question mark.

  10. Hermida needs more time before he's labeled a bust but I'm sure some in the Marlins brass are concerned that he will be what he is now and that's not much.
  11. C- Olivo - Below average 1st- Jacobs - Below Average 2nd- Uggla - Below Average SS- Ramirez - Well Below Average 3rd- Cabrera - Well Below Average LF- Willingham - Above Average (Possibly the best defender on the team) CF- Amezaga/Abercrombie - Average RF- Hermida - Average Our defense up the middle from catcher to short to second to CF is poor. The defense on the corners is poor. The defense on the corners of the OF is OK but can be better. In my opinion I feel that with the defense as it is and the group of guys we have up the middle there is no way we can win. Look at the 1997 and 2003 WS teams the defense up the middle was steller. From CJ, Renteria, Counsell and Devo to Pudge, AGon, Luis and JP (has no arm but tracked down everything in the cavernous CF of DS). My question to you is; Is it possible with this group of guys to ever win anything significant with the defense being as poor as it is? Can the defense improve? Has the loss of Perry Hill been that detrimental to the overall quality if defense? Willingham and the CFs are below average and Hermida is well below average. I agree on the others. I don't think the defense can improve much unless we get new players. I think as bad as we are defensively we could still win if the starting pitching improves and becomes a strength as it was last year.
  12. Quick question: who goes down when those 2 get activated? I think Fredi has too much of a hard-on for JoeBo to send him down. If it was up to me Jacobs would take Gardner's spot and Cody would take Reggie's.
  13. Stark is full of crap. He wrote a book to make a boat load of money. The more controversial stuff he fills his book with (no matter how idiotic) the higher the book sales. To base his Jones is overrated argument on Zone Rating (and supposedly one scout??) is idiotic and I'm sure he knows it but he doesn't really care because his purpose is to make a buck.
  14. The 9th inning bunt attempt was idiotic. Offense was totally dead tonight. Uggla with 4k's? Argh. We need to change our approach. Terrible approach. There's nothign wrong with the approach. The team wont score 7 runs every night.
  15. love the hate for Hermida... that's awesome That's ridiculous. Do you think Hermida is above criticism? League worst defense and poor bat. Don't confuse reality with hate.
  16. I don't know if Lindstrom was available but if he was then why would Fredi unnecessarily use minor league pitchers in such a critical stage of the game? Because he's clueless? When's the last time we saw Lindstrom? Saturday? He's 1000000000000000000% available, or he should be DL'd like Owens. If he was avaiable then I agree Fredi is clueless. I think he's clueless regardless. in all fairness fredi was tossed at that point I'm sure he was still calling the shots.
  17. My take on this, as I stated a few posts ago before the feud broke out. . . . 1. Lou's number's are correct 2. Assuming those numbers are correct, I don't see the advantage to the franchise in buying out just the arb years...add a couple more years and I'm in I don't know if his numbers are correct but I agree this really makes sense only if you buy out at least one or two of the free agent years. I could be wriong but I think that's the approach must teams follow.
  18. Hermida continues to play RF like Junior Felix. Hammer should tutor him on how to catch fly balls. I don't know if Lindstrom was available but if he was then why would Fredi unnecessarily use minor league pitchers in such a critical stage of the game?
  19. Discussion part : This guy never stated he was injured when he was with the Marlins. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't. I'm believing he was and just never said anything. But if a guy dosen't let the staff know he is hurting they can't know. There may be signs but if he says he isn't hurting they have to go by that. Period. Then just before his first start at AAA he says his shoulder hurts and they immediately put him on the DL, which they should. Protect the parent team's investment, and all that. I don't see where he has a complaint other than with himself and/or his agent. I never saw details about the timing of his injury in the local papers but in the Venezuealn papers he said his arm began bothering him in the 3rd game of the season vs the Astros but he said nothing because he thought it was normal given that he hadn't thrown much during the winter. He said the pain became unbearable during his last game vs the Mets. He said that by the time he went to talk to Fredi about the pain the decision was already made to send him down to AAA.
  20. I think lesbians and straight males and for that matter gay males and straight females all have similar views on who is a pretty girl and who is not.
  21. Sandro.. the 5 years Lou was talking about are '05 to '09. In those 5 years Cabrera will likely make between $35M and $40M compared to the $25M and thus the savings would be in the $10M to $15M range.
  22. I've stopped doubting Uggla. The guy punishes baseballs.
  23. Welcome to Fantasy Island. The Marlins aren't trading for any more players that make more than 500K, so no.....Adam Dunn has less than a 0% chance of coming to the Florida Marlins. Did Beinfest tell you this directly? The marlins have been interested in Dunn for years, and theres absolutely no reason why if the marlins are still in the race near mid july, they wouldnt pull off a trade to bring him in. This is in the realm of possibility and in no way fantastical like an A-Rod trade would be. If we're going to Fantasy Island and make believe that Loria will open his wallet to spend a little of the revenue sharing welfare then I would rather go for someone that would provide a major boost like a Carlos Zambrano. Our starting pitchign is pretty crappy and Zambrano would plug a big hole in there. Right fantasy island, just like when we traded for the AL leader in saves in 2003 before the ASB, when we signed a future hall of fame catcher, when we traded for a replacement after lowell broke his hand, and we signed delgado. No reason to think we don't make a move if we're in the hunt in mid-july. Not saying it'll be Dunn, but thinking there's absolutely no chance we improve if we're in contention puts you right smack in the middle of 'Fantasy Island' Until the '05 season Loria was spending teh revenue sharing money but that's no longer the case. Last July we did nothing to improve the team. There's zero chance of adding a big salary guy like Dunn unless we're on Fantasy Island.
  24. Amazing... and who's the lady judge? She's beautiful!!
  25. AJ left the game in the 5th with an injury. Mike Krukow said it looked like an elbow problem. Krukow is the Giants color guy and is a former pitcher. Hopefully it's nothing major.
