Posted May 17, 200717 yr Could the latest detonation of the Marlins' new ballpark campaign be the development that finally shoves them over the edge and causes them to deal Dontrelle Willis? Well, not yet. But clubs that have been checking in on the availability of Willis and Miguel Cabrera say they've noticed something that may be significant. When Cabrera's name comes up, they hear: "No way." But when Willis' name is tossed out there, they hear the Marlins have no intention of trading him "right now" or "at this time." After last year -- when they charged back from an 11-31 start to contend -- the Fish would wait until at least mid-July before giving up on contention, anyway. But the guessing is that if they ever do get into "sell" mode, they are likely to listen harder to the Dontrelle offers than they have in the past. Which doesn't mean he'll get traded. One club on the Willis Watch says it has been led to believe it would take three young, sure-thing, centerpiece players to wrangle Dontrelle away from Florida. And almost nobody can afford that heavy a price tag. Nevertheless, the Marlins are now a team to keep an eyeball on for the foreseeable future, because that ballpark-funding debacle has owner Jeffrey Loria "extremely agitated," said an official of one team who is close with Loria. This latest short-circuiting in the Florida legislature (No. 6 in this millennium, if you're scoring at home) came after MLB plowed more of its own time and energy into the process than ever before, including personal lobbying by MLB president and chief operating officer Bob DuPuy. So if this defeat causes MLB to back off its insistence that this team needs to find a way to make it work in South Florida, expect to hear a new round of Marlins-to-San Antonio rumors. jayson stark
May 17, 200717 yr His value right now is perhaps the lowest it has been for the last 2+ years now. If they are going to trade him he better get that ERA back into the 3.5 range at least first and get that WHIP in check both are pretty out there right now. I still would love an Adam Jones + Jeff Clement here But the last part of the article is why I am banging my head, the moving the team part
May 17, 200717 yr what would this season be without the perennial trading of dontrelle and miggy rumors? :whistle

Is it possible to blow any more hot air?
May 17, 200717 yr This latest short-circuiting in the Florida legislature (No. 6 in this millennium"] It is a tried and proven method for other cities. Who knows how far they push it.
May 17, 200717 yr I like their answer on Miguel....on train im torn because I love the guy so much. He probably needs to be dealt though. that's business.
May 17, 200717 yr I agree...hate to admit it but he's pretty overrated, and if we can fill voids, we should fill voids. I absolutely LOVE him and would be heart broken as a Train fan if he was traded. But as a Marlin fan, I'd understand, expecially if we got three sure-thing prospects like the article talks about (Hopefully somebody will get desperate at the all-star break).
May 17, 200717 yr Please, this is just another way for the out of touch main stream media to make something out of nothing. ESPN has always tried to make mountains out of swamps. The fact is when the Canes leave the OB for Dolphins Stadium the bond money originally earmarked for the OB renovation will be available for the Marlins it is just that simple. This is much a do about nothing. :whistle

May 18, 200717 yr I love the D-Train for many reasons but he is over-rated . If we get overwhelmed i think we have to consider moving him
May 18, 200717 yr Dontrelle is not over-rated when you look at the whole package he brings to a team. Based on his pitching stats alone he's worth much less than we got for Beckett. No one in their right mind would mention 3 can't miss players for Dontrelle if he was just another drone. It's his intangibles that make him worth much more than Beckett. Properly marketed in a big city he's worth millions in merchandise sales. . . You all should appreciate the special player he is. I've never seen anyone in decades that plays the GAME like it is a game, has fun, enfuses the rest of the team with his reckless hustle. I don't know that there's been a player like him in the last 50 years. I treasure every start he makes, and I advise the rest of you to do the same for as long as he's on the team. You'll see many better pitchers in your life, but you may never see another player like Dontrelle.
May 18, 200717 yr Actually we got offered Granderson and Verlander for D-Train, of course this was prior to last year. And if I am not mistaken Boston would of taken either D-Train or Big Tex in the Hanley deal.
May 18, 200717 yr This latest short-circuiting in the Florida legislature (No. 6 in this millennium"] You know at some point it's going to cease to be hot air, and simply happen because MLB and the owners just want the problem to go away, potential be damned.
May 18, 200717 yr At this point I don't think anyone should scoff at the Marlins' relocating. Why not? Where are they going to go?
May 18, 200717 yr as much as I personally think he is a great person and human being. he's beginnig to disappoint me on the field, every inconsistent, I mean great rookie year and 2005 (22 wins) then drops to what 12 or so last year and is pitching like crap this year too.....and 2004 was bad, i guess thats why he will be traded eventually
May 18, 200717 yr I love the D-Train for many reasons but he is over-rated . If we get overwhelmed i think we have to consider moving him D-Train is not over-rated by any means

Granted it looks like that's not going to happen but it sure could help this club.
May 18, 200717 yr Montero, Justin Upton and a pitching prospect Clement, Adam Jones and pitching prospect Salty and Francour Braun, Gwynn Jr, and Gallardo (I wish) Martinez, Pelfrey/humber, and insert catching prospect here Hughes and Tabata (doubtful) Martin, Kemp and pitching spec I doubt most of these would happen but not very many teams have elite catching prospects. Ramp could list them better then I could I am sure. But most of them that do wont trade them off (like LAD with Martin) or are in the division like the braves are.
May 18, 200717 yr I'm not so sure keeping the over-weight diva is a better idea than keeping the all-effort, all-the-time, all-community guy.
May 18, 200717 yr I'm not so sure keeping the over-weight diva is a better idea than keeping the all-effort, all-the-time, all-community guy. the overweight diva plays everyday while the community guy plays every five.
