  • JJ was alittle rusty. Not what I expected - hopefully his next start will be a lot better
  • Jeremy needs to stop looking pretty in RF and start catching the ball
  • Carroll looked good tonight - 2/3 2 runs scored and 1BB. Good eye at the plate. He did not swing at crap in the dirt. Very nice.
  • Offense was shell shocked again. We cant score more than 2 runs in an inning.
  • Situational hitting was horrible again.
  • Olivo was back to his old self. Those pitches were no where near the zone.
  • New day tomorrow...but it looks like the Sox busted out of their slump

End.

I hope someone puts Hermida in a bag, lights him on fire and throughs him on someone's lawn. .750 OBP is just terrible. Only one hit?!? Come on...

Seriously though, JJ set the tone early by just struggling with his spots, Kim looked solid and really, you take JJ out and extrapolate Kim's performance over 6 innings and we win 6-4. Now, tomorrow's a different matter...the next two games are big time statement games about this teams ability to perform behind its top two pitchers going against a really struggling team.

Damn 5 games under .500. Mets and braves won too. They better turn it around quick if they want to make a run at the division/Wild Card and most importantly win the next two here and get out of this defensive/offensive/pitching slump.

I thought Olivo was going to fall over on that one swing...I think it was the second pitch, maybe the third.

We're frustrated, he's probablly frustrated give the guy a break, he'll get through this. I mean he has come through for us with some big hits this year. It's not like he's a Reggie... yet. JK :cool

Brent Carroll sucks, lollerskates!

I didn't see the game so how did the 4 unearned runs happen?

Did JJ do ok?

Olivo needs to fall over and drop dead. :)

that was mean, i know.

Yeah that last AB by Olivo was just Wow. The Hermida error was huge because it really opened things up and once Thome got that HR it changed the tone of the game.

It was good to finally see JJ back and he will have more starts, but the next 2 games are big for us.

JJ didn't pitch well, defense didn't help him out.

Cough:: Hermida :: Cough

LoL he had 2 hits, and he showed off his speed on the bases

JJ was just rusty, he wasn't hitting his spots; keeping the ball too high. JJ will be fine by his 3rd start this season

Hermida on the other hand, ehh..

First of all, Boone's error (although JJ got charged) was of far greater consequence. That was the literal wheels come crashing off moment.

Pile on Hermida all you foolishly want, but at the end of the day, he only made an out twice, actually forced the pitchers to work and was literally ROBBED of a sure RBI double by Dye. THAT was the turning point...if Hermida's hit drops, Miguel scores easily. If Dye misses the dive, Hermida's probably got himself an inside the parker and no doubt a triple.

But, you can pick and choose all you want. Ignore that JJ was seemingly in a 3 ball count to every batter, that we have no one on the roster capable of playing 1st base decently, that Olivo, despite picking off two runners, still struggles keeping balls controlled and will swing at the rosin bag.

Bad defense and bad luck.. a game we should have won.

Solid job by the back end of the pen. Just want to see improvements from JJ from one start to the next.. all you can ask for in a guy who hasnt pitched in a while. Congrats to carroll on his first mlb hit.

Knew it wouldnt happen but wanted to see Borchard pinch hit for Olivo. As bad as he's been this year, he'll still give you a better AB than olivo and atleast give us a better chance at having a chance with boone behind him. As for Jeremy, hes young and i believe he'll improve but id go carroll in RF and amezaga in CF and jeremy DHing for the rest of the AL trip.

alot of people dislike olivo... but the rest of the team didnt do too good either. things just arent happening for the team. call it luck. call it fate.. call it what u want.... everytime the marlins hit the ball hard its at some one unless they hit it over the fence or if its not hit at some one the defender seems to somehow make a spectacular catch... then when theyre on the defensive side everything the oponent hits is nowhere near the defender and if it is.... they dont get it..... alot of people might think im wrong but willingham also isnt too good in the OF. ... i'd prefer alfredo in right field and left side platooning with the others because he's actually capable of making catchers out there alot of people on here trash talk on alfredo alot but he always seems to make the catches out there in center. i gaurantee if that was reggie or alfredo in right. that ball would have been caught. im tired of seeing hermida dive for balls and they get by him, or just flat out dropping balls.

carroll did good today, olivo got them out of an inning with his two pick off throws and his tag at the plate to get thome on a decent throw from hermida (give him that) but olivo still had to turn around across the plate and tag thome. hanley got robbed of extra bases, then called out on a bang bang play at first, and sh*tty luck on that shot off of contreras glove directly to the second basemen. JJ looked horrible at times, looked good at others. a quick 13 pitch second inning i believe it was. the team seems to get some what of a rally once its way too late in the 9th inning with 2 outs... in this past week or so the team seems to do this. something needs to jumpstart the offense and defense. defensive coach needs to do his job, freddi needs to start managing, so the team can start winning the division was pretty much up for grabs mets and braves struggling. marlins having 2 series versus 2 teams well under 500 (royals and whitesox) and cant seem to get it done.

go ahead and trash talk me about anything i have said. these are my opinions, this is how i see things are happening.

oh yeah. i also think in the royals game... with reggie pinch running, i would have liked jason wood pinch hitting for carroll. u could tell he was nervous after kicking that ball and airmailing the throw to the plate, looked as if he wanted a hit so bad in yesterdays game to redeem himself for the errors and wood might not be great, but he has came through with some hits when needed.

also, did anyone else notice after carroll got his hit today andy fox got the ball and threw it to some one on the team not sure who it was kinda looked like cabrera and he was throwing it into the stands but the shot was really fast so i didnt see if he actually threw the ball into the stands or just acted as if he was going to.

The supposedly shell shocked offense got 12 hits and scored 6 runs which is pretty good, I think.

The game was lost because of poor pitching and poor defensive play.

The only one that had a good defensive game was your whipping boy Olivo.

6 runs is great but whenever we had runners on base we just died. No big hits, just sac flies (I'll take them though), ground outs etc:.

Not to overreact but I think Carroll looked better in that single game than Eric Reed ever has up here.

Yep, Carroll has a better eye than Reed/Reggie. Carroll was down 0-2 last night and then worked the count to get a walk. He layed off of pitches in the dirt and swung at strikes. A lot of positives came out of last nights game (from Carroll).

I don't think that's an overreaction. Carroll already has more 2 hit games than Reed.

Could be the most important part of the loss. If Carroll can start out on a hot streak, it's going to be his job for awhile. I've been a fan for his for some time now and it's nice to see a pretty good bounce back game from him.

Then again, if he doesn't get 2 hits and a walk tonight, I expect the board as a whole to be yelling for him to be sent down again.

Oh and Hermida sucks. We really need to cut that guy! I can't believe he is 23 years old. Way too old to be considered anything worthwhile.

At least Hermida is starting to swing the bat better. But he's an awful outfielder defensively which means that he fits right in with the other Marlins.
