Marlins Grumblings
Welcome to Fantasy Island. The Marlins aren't trading for any more players that make more than 500K, so no.....Adam Dunn has less than a 0% chance of coming to the Florida Marlins. Did Beinfest tell you this directly? The marlins have been interested in Dunn for years, and theres absolutely no reason why if the marlins are still in the race near mid july, they wouldnt pull off a trade to bring him in. This is in the realm of possibility and in no way fantastical like an A-Rod trade would be. If we're going to Fantasy Island and make believe that Loria will open his wallet to spend a little of the revenue sharing welfare then I would rather go for someone that would provide a major boost like a Carlos Zambrano. Our starting pitchign is pretty crappy and Zambrano would plug a big hole in there. Zambrano may be crappier than Dontrelle this year. Forget the name, look at the numbers. Zambrano and Dontrelle are having similar seasons and I expect both of them to bounce back. With the way we score and with Zambrano, Dontrelle, Mitre and JJ in the rotation I think we could do some damage the 2nd half. Their OPS allowed, ERA, ERA+, innings per start and WHIP are all in the same ballpark. Back to Disney Land. What makes you think Zambrano is available? The Cubs are a better team than the Brewers and they will win the NL Central....mark my words. He may become available but even if he does there's ZERO chance we'll get him. This is a Fantasy Island trade in response to us getting Dunn which is another Fantasy Islnd trade but if we're going to Fantasy Island we may as well get someone that would REALLY help us.

Carlos Martinez update
Btw if you are looking at his minor league numbers on the baseball cube you should know that they have some stats there that arent his. Well then that kind of changes everything. I'd be much more open to seeing him in a more positive light if I could see his real stats. Anyone have them? Look under the Org column and ignore the rows with Wan. He's only pitched about 190 innings in 5.5 seasons. http://thebaseballcube.com/players/M/carlos-martinez-2.shtml

Random Triva Thread: Movie Edition
Posted this in the other trivia thread, but I figured it was better suited for this thread. Who is the only male actor to have won an Academy Award each time he was nominated? (Has to have at least 2 nominations) Kevin Spacey, I think. Question: In what movie did Berra, Mantle and Maris get ejected from a game for "arguing" balls and strikes? I used the "" because although they really didn't argue that's the reason the ump threw them out.

... Jack McKeon suggested that over two years ago. Get out! Did he steal that idea?! You have got to find me a link... :thumbup Regardless of who came up with it, I don't think it will happen. And that's too bad. I remember Jack came up with it.

read what Ramp said: ill make it easier for you ... affordable meaning both salary wise and trade wise Read what I said... what part of what I said confused you?

Overall thoughts.
And yet barring his ERA finishing over 5, I don't see his value plummeting. He's still the most affordable #2 pitcher in baseball and some teams would view him as a #1. He goes 7 innings each night, he never gets hurt, he's a proven winner, and he's a pretty good guy too. He's the total package. If the plan is to win this year or next year I don't think trading DTrain would be a good idea but with that said your statement in bold is silly. I don't know how you define a #2 but there's better pitchers than him that are more affordable. affordable meaning both salary wise and trade wise but gimme some more affordable #2s I'll give you some guys that are better and more affordable money wise. I thought that's what you meant: Lackey, Webb, Peavy & Verlander and im sure those teams are eager to trade them :banghead Can you point out where it is that I said anything about their teams trading them?

Strikeouts
may not have a direct correlation with runs scored, but when you put the ball in play more, you do in fact have a better chance of reaching base...and really...thats the point of hitting...to get on base somehow, someway...a strikeout is a useless out and we will never be an elite team unless we at least cut down on the k's Go back to past seasons and look at where teams ranked in Ks and runs scored and you'll find there's no correlation between the two.

Strikeouts
We now lead the league in runs scored. The constant complaining about the offense is insane. If bases are loaded, then a groundball or a flyball to the outfield could score a run, while a strike out does absolutely nothing. When the ball is hit, anything could happen, errors, bloops, infield hits, etc. This is what I mean. This is another of the great myths of baseball. Strikeouts do not have an association with runs scored either positively or negatively :thumbup There's no correlation between Ks and runs scored.

Top 5 sports movies of all time
1. On the Waterfront 2. Raging Bull 3. Field of Dreams 4. The Cincinnati Kid 5. The Set-up 6. Rudy 7. Breaking Away I guess it's debatable whether On the Waterfront and The Cincinnati Kid are sports movies. One is about an ex-boxer and the other about poker.

Interleague
I'm surprised at how the AL has pounded the NL so far this season. I thought the NL had closed the gap but if anything it looks like the gap is growing. After today the AL will be up about 50-30.

6/10/2007: Devil Rays at Marlins @ 1:05 PM
Is Hermida the worst defensive RF'r in the majors? He may be. I think Hammer has a better glove than Jeremy.

Worst Free agent signings of the past offseason (so far)
I never said that Clemens was gonna be terrible. I said he would be meaningless. Anything can happen but I don't believe they will have the pitching depth to surpass Detroit and Oakland, even if they could beat out the Mariners and the Twins. BTW Pierre was given the night off He started last nite and is in the lineup tonite. He is hitting 8th with Furcal leading off not a bad thing IMO. If that is your definition of being benched.... If not then Dude double check your facts please I am sorry Polo I don't mean to be rough on you but it is totally wrong to say pierre has been benched The facts are: - JP was benched on Friday due to poor performance - JP was moved down to the 8th spot on Saturday - JP was pinch hit for in a one run game in the bottom of the 9th on Saturday I still don't know how it is you can say the Dodgers are happy with JP.

Tonight's game on FSN??
Dewayne Stats (don't see many white guys named Dwayne, lol) is so boring. He drones on and on.......he puts me to sleep. I think almost all of the the DRays announcer bashing is ridiculous (like someone bashing them over the nicknames they use!) but I agree Stats just drones on and on. He's boring.

Bottom Feeders @ Fish; 7:05 from the stadium
late and all but why didn't Jason Wood bunt? Even later but I think DTrain should have hit away and agree Wood should have bunted.

Bottom Feeders @ Fish; 7:05 from the stadium
Damn this is annoying. Not only are we getting beat by this pathetic team, the color guy o9n the Rays is so annoying. I forgot his name (Is it Joe?) but anything the Rays do, he splooges all over the place as if they were a good team. what do we have like a 2.5 game lead on them? And we're fortunate to play in the NL.

Bottom Feeders @ Fish; 7:05 from the stadium
With Obermueller coming in and Mitre's start getting pushed back, it seems JJ will be coming back to start on the 14th. I can't wait. I thought he was coming back the 18th. Do you know when he last pitched?

I think we probably lead the league in come from behind wins.. I smell another one.

Worst Free agent signings of the past offseason (so far)
Drew by a mile. Pierre second. Actually the Dodgers are pretty happy with JP The worse f/a signing was not in the off-season but just recently. The Yankees signing Clemens was totally unnecessary and expensive. Their season is over! They won't catch the Red Sox or anyone in the Wild Card Race. They could win 90 games and not make the play-offs JP was benched two games ago. I don't know how you can say they're happy with him. I also don't know how you can say the Yankees are out of it. They're 5.5 games behind the Tigers. That's nothing.

Miguel Cabrera- our future first baseman?
LOL I don't know, but let's move onto trashing Minervini's style. As far as I'm concerned him, Costas and Gary Carter should team together for some winter Alaska baseball, and nothing more. Some commentators I just can't take. I either turn the station or mute the game If it is one I want to watch. If I'm close to the remote control I hit mute as soon as Minervini comes up. They should dump him and put a pretty girl in there.

Miguel Cabrera- our future first baseman?
Some that I enjoy are the Giants, the Dodgers with Scully, the Mets, the Yankees and the Red Sox. Some I don't like are the Reds when Grande does the game, the Padres, the White Sox, the Dodgers when Scully doesn't do the games and the Braves. I probably like the Giants the best.

Worst Free agent signings of the past offseason (so far)
JP gets my vote for the worst not only because he has stunk but because he's blocking Matt Kempt.
