  1. There's no need for name calling on this forum sir. Keep all the trash talk out of here. We are discussing stuff, and i have feelings that are hurt :( :( :( I'z sad, need a hug I don't know you well enough to joke around i guess. It was meant in jest. But seriously, you don't see how working really hard on rehab wouldn't add a few ticks to a fastball? Seems like common sense? Hug pending friendly response.
  2. I don't see how working your ass off can increase your velocity. I think his hard work is showing off with him hit the corners with such ease this year. The velocity increase is a huge mystery at this point, but i like it :thumbup You don't see how working your ass off can increase velocity?....... Your screen name is accurate
  3. Hi my name is John Baker and i hit .299 last year, pleased to meet you. In two months of playing time. He has historically hit very well against righties and struggling mightily against lefties. Play Lord Johnathon von Bakerellington 2/3 of the time against mostly righties and find ANYONE who can call a game and hit lefties (not that hard a skillset to find). You'll have a catcher combo that goes .300/.380/.480 I betcha.
  4. Hi my name is John Baker and i hit .299 last year, pleased to meet you.
  5. OK...GET THIS THROUGH YOUR HEADS... READY? OK! EMILIO BONIFACIO IS NOT (NOT!) A STARTING 2B IN THE BIG LEAGUES! EMILIO BONIFACIO IS NOT A 1ST HITTER...HE WILL NEVER BE A 1ST HITTER...THE 1ST HITTER WILL BE CAMERON MAYBIN, AND YOU WILL LIKE IT. Got it? Also, while Kemp is a nice player, we need a 2B more than we need an OF'er. Bonifacio is a guy who can become a nice utility player, if all pans out. Nothing more, nothing less. Nice Hissy. I think bonafacio will be a great 2 hitter.
  6. I have read that he is available from a few different places. Whether it is true or not remains to be seen. At any rate, the asking price would be ridiculously high. The catchers market is so bad right now. I can't imagine this is correct, but Cot's Contracts had Martin's service time at just 1.15 coming into this year??? If so, he's not Arb elligible even this offseason? Just checked it, and yes, Martin is still short of 3 years. I'm shocked. Russell Martin c 1 year/$0.5M (2008) re-signed 2/27/08 1 year/$0.3875M (2007), re-signed 3/07 1 year (2006), re-signed 2/06 1 year/$0.3M (2003) 2/03 drafted 2002 (17-511) (Chipola JC, FL), $40,000 signing bonus agent: Bob Garber ML service: 1.150
  7. "not enamored with his makeup" where do they get this crap from? There is something not being said by the Dodgers. I wonder what their real motive is.. I now see this has been posted already a few pages back. My appologies.
  8. This one surprised me, but Sherman throws a new name as a possibility on the trade market: Russell Martin. Sherman cites rival executives in saying that the Dodgers aren't "enamored with his makeup" and that with frontline catchers being hot commodities, the Dodgers could explore the market to see what Martin could bring in return. Personally, I think moving Martin would be a mistake, but I have to admit, Martin would indeed fetch a very nice return. per some NY Post writer - http://www.nypost.com/seven/10192008/sport...4316.htm?page=2 Obviously rumors are just that, but if we could add Russ Martin to our team, It would be an OUTSTANDING addition, and really the final key ingredient. If it took Olsen, and two pitching prospects, i'd do it in a heartbeat.
  9. Here's his page on MILB.com, they spell his name differently EDIT, I now see that he's only had a few weeks in AA, and had less stellar numbers in the FSL previous to this hot stretch. Still it's interesting. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=456078
  10. Interesting Tidbit today about a AA Catcher showing some promise on a team that doesn't need him. I follow the Minors pretty closely and had not heard this name yet. Considering Geovany Soto's success, they obviously don't need another guy. If he's tearing up the Southern League, then he's officially ready for the Majors based on the Marlins usual talent progression. (Miguel, Dontrelle, Hermida, JJ, Anibal, Nolasco, Olsen, Vandenhurk, etc) Prospect of the Day Last year, Willington Castillo (Cubs) established himself as the best defensive catcher in the Cubs system. Scouts agreed that it was his bat that would determine his major league potential. That bat was on display yesterday, as Wellington finished 3-for-5, with three RBIs and two runs. He also hit his third home run of the season, and he?s now batting .340.
  11. I was very skeptical of Nolasco early in the year and voiced that on here, but I'm glad he's changed my mind. He's never going to be an ace but he has shown over the first portion of this season that there is no doubt he is a major league quality starter. I was at the game (also at friday night's) and it was a fun series to watch, even though we only got one out of three. Ricky is a strong 5th starter How many 5th starters have a 12k game on their resume? I'm guessing not many. I like Ricky against agressive teams where he can get them swinging and missing at his breaking stuff. It will be a test in his next start vs the Patient A's.
  12. Why is Coghlan in AA, he struggled in 130 abs in Jupier last year. He did, and it concerned me, but they've started him at AA, and he's TEARING it up.
  13. I also just realized Coghlan is a lefty, my mistake. As to when this lineup is feasible, I meant more like opening day next year, or perhaps even late this year as the Fish consistenly move elite talent straight from AA Zebulon to Miami (Miggy, Dontrelle, JJ, Anibal, Olsen, Hermida, etc)
  14. So Hanley is still Hanley, Jacobs has been hitting for power, Uggla is hitting, Hermida steps right into the 3spot with 2 doubles, and Maybin CF, Coughlan 2b/3b are both KILLING the ball in AA with power and 3sb EACH?? I?m just dumb enough to get excited about how the offense is lining up. You? Maybin CF-R Coughlan 3B-R Hermida RF-L Hanley SS-R Jacobs 1B-L Uggla 2B-R Willingham LF-R Treanor C-R Pitcher
  15. Re: Miguel and Willis being on the team in 2011.... He didn't get lazy, BA does not make attempts to predict any FA transactions no matter how obvious they may be. Those are the standards BA gives to its writers to keep things consistent. Don't be so quick to bash,
  16. Tampa, Pittsburg, Chicago, are facing non-contenders for the final 3 in Toronto, St. Louis and Detroit. However Verlander will pitch one of those games against Chicago. Florida is facing the Mets, Baltimore is facing the Yanks, Royals are facing the Indians That says to me that Florida, KC & Baltimore have the best chance of losing their last 3 games. Chicago and KC have 2 games left against each other before the final 3, so at least one of them if not both will be eliminated from the #1 pick by winning one or two of those games. This will be SOOOOOOO exciting!!!! Come on, i have to root for something.
  17. I've been tracking this myself and sending a friend updates, glad to see someone else found something to root for as well. The #1 pick this year is a great prize because of Pedro Alvarez. For those who say we won't pick the top player available,,,,we didn't exactly cheap out with Dominguez last year, and we picked REALLY high ceiling talent in 2005 with all those 1st round pitchers. We're NOT a budget drafting team. We pick the best players, and have for years. He's a High avg, High discipline, High POWER 3b from Vanderbuilt who already has been a 1st team ALL American his Freshman and Sophmore seasons. He's currently the top hitter on the USA National team, and will no doubt have an Alex Gordon / Mark Teixeira kinda season. He'll likely be the top talent available, and will be able to help the Marlins QUICKLY. I'm talking like one season of minor league ball. Yes he's a 3b, but you can put him at First, or Left or Right field or whatever. He's an IMPACT bat, and has been described as a ONCE IN A GENERATION TALENT by Baseball Prospectus. We need that first pick. Getting swept by Washington was HUGE. Lets hope Philly mops the floor with us as well
  18. Always fun to come back to a post you started to find 100 responses. I wasn't serious about trading Hermida, I even used a smiley face, come on people, have you BEEN on the internet long ? (see how i implied sarcasm?) In any case, the fact remains that he's strangely terrible at home, and surprisingly good on the road. Other than the obvious reasons for this, had anyone noticed this fact simply by watching the games. I had not. Also, BABIP discussions are boring.
  19. I've been mystified by Hermida's performance because i thought injury would be the only thing holding him back from great success. He has a GREAT eye at the plate, and had over 100 walks in a minor league season. He then was able to turn up the power where he looked like a 25 HR threat easily. None of this has translated to MLB. While looking through his split stats I noticed the following..... He has some odd splits, but they can be explained by small sample sizes, for instance, he's actually MUCH better vs Lefties than righties.... OBP SLG AVG .320 .469 .306 vs .306 .388 .184 And he's much better in day vs night OBP SLG AVG .326 .585 .268 305 .351 .207 But here's a split where the sample sizes are equal. OBP SLG AVG HOME .218 .319 .153 AWAY .385 .500 .288 If Jeremy was hitting .288 with .385 OBP and slugging FIVE HUNDRED we'd all be a bit happier wouldn't we? Trade Jeremy, apparently he can't hit in Dolphin Stadium
  20. No, I'm still a genius. Just not uniquely so. I figured someone must have thought of this by now, and i did due dilligence checking the top 3 pages. So, i guess you agree then, what would be keeping him down? 2-4 last night with another HR.
  21. Sometimes I'm such a genius it hurts. Baker is a LEFTY hitting catcher, and true to form he kills righties and can't hit lefties.... Entire Season AVG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS OBP SLG OPS vs Left .143 14 1 2 0 0 0 3 2 4 1 0 .278 .143 .421 vs Right .326 86 19 28 10 0 4 16 9 15 0 0 .396 .581 .977 Now check Olivo's splits...... Entire Season TEAM G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG vs Left-handed Pitcher Florida Marlins 22 41 3 15 4 1 2 10 27 4 6 1 0 .422 .659 .366 vs Right-handed Pitcher Florida Marlins 46 141 9 27 5 2 1 14 39 2 43 0 1 .201 .277 .191 He's KILLING lefties and not hitting righties..... Hmm what SHOULD we do?
  22. Team League AVG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG OPS ALB PCL .300 34 100 20 30 10 0 4 19 52 11 19 1 0 .377 .520 .897 .300 hitter slugging .520 and a decent BB / K ratio..... Very interesting. Does anyone know anything about how he's doing defensively? PS this is the guy we got for Jason Stokes this off season.
  23. Let me preface this by saying... :banghead Ok, I knew that Santana was a Rule 5 pickup by Minnesota. What i didn't realize was teh following: December 13, 1999: Drafted by the Florida Marlins from the Houston Astros in the 1999 rule V draft. December 13, 1999: Traded by the Florida Marlins with cash to the Minnesota Twins for Jared Camp (minors). We actually HAD HIM!!! The second line is priceless. We traded him WITH cash for Jared Camp. I know no one realized what he'd become, but it's fun to think of what we could have done with him in the rotation along with Beckett, Willis, Burnett, etc.
  24. THE CONSTANT GARDNER The Front office clearly is hesitant to install a younger closer. Even if Lindstrom & Owens have more classic closer stuff, they're young and haven't seen the innings and situations that an older guy like Gardner has. It's like Wickman closing over Gonzalez and Soriano in Atlanta. Guts and moxie win out over MPH
  25. As to Lee's nickname as a closer...... How about, THE CONSTANT GARDNER
