Dave Krynzel has been outrighted by Arizona
Fair enough. With our paucity of choices i thought he might be worth a look. Arizona is seriously stacked in the outfield on an organizational scale, so it's entirely possible they could let a gem slip away. (cough, dan uggla, cough)

Dave Krynzel has been outrighted by Arizona
Granted De Aza has been a revelation so far, we're still seriously lacking in the ML ready OF dept. Krynzel is a real Centerfielder with real speed and had a great spring with Arizona. Had De Aza not gone off, we'd all be screaming for this move. If De Aza reverts to his former career averages, we'll be sorry we didn't grab Krynzel. He's a former team USA player, and top prospect. I think we make the move. Thoughts? Player TEAM POS G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG D Krynzel ARI OF 21 39 8 13 2 2 1 8 22 6 11 4 0 .404 .564 .333

Marlins have baseball's hottest infield
Either looked at 100 RBI Or the fact that he has exactly 100 HR as a pro counting his 69 minor league HR. Either way, hillarious.

Brian Anderson now available?
I would imagine that would make Brian Anderson available. Also, what about Aaron Rowand? Has anyone signed him? Brian Anderson Willy Tavares AND their number 1/2 prospect Ryan Sweeney. Many project him as a better player than Brian Anderson. We could be in line for any of the three of them.

More Centerfield talk - Who's left
Upton is 23, Jacobs is 27 next. Actually Upton and Jacobs are 22 and 26 respectively. They will each be these ages pretty much all of NEXT season as well. I love the idea of Upton in CF. Between He, and Hanley, they could be a terrifying 1-2 punch at the top of our lineup. Think 120 stolen bases with 50 HR.

Felix Pie?
In 2005 Pie was ranked 31 in the top 100 prospect list. Petit was ranked 46. In 2006 Pie moved up a few slots and Petit lost 20 spots. So they WERE about on the same plane for a while.

Is Mike Jacobs here to stay in '07?
I think you guys are overly optimistic when it comes to Stokes. I woud love to see him come into spring training and prove me wrong and earn a roster spot but last season's performance in Albuquerque makes me think he is an ex-prospect now in decline. Too bad injuries hampered his chances to make it to the bigs, but the landscape is littered with such guys. Projecting him to 500 ABs last season in the PCL he would have hit roughly 14 HRs. His MLE is under the Mendoza line. Prove me wrong and I'll be thrilled, but I don't think so. I completely agree that "If he is healthy" is the most over-used prefix in the world when it comes to underperformers, but it's really the only thing holding this guy back. However, Projecting him out to 500 AB's is essentially worthless when you're talking about him. If you follow him as closely as i have over the years, you see the months when he gets healthy. He'll have stretches where he Slugs .900 and has a .375 OBP. Then you'll see him leave a game early in the 6th inning. All of a sudden he's batting .150 for the next 2 weeks, then goes on the DL. Projecting his 60 at bats last year is as pointless as projecting his hot streaks. The point is, he truly is a monstrous hitter, and if he could ease into the bigs facing only Lefties.........He might push Jacobs aside and take over 1st all to himself. If he stays healthy

Is Mike Jacobs here to stay in '07?
If Stokes was actually healthy enough to platoon with Jacobs next year...... You could put down about 45 hr and a .280 batting avg from our 1b spot in the order.

Girardi joins YES broadcast team
wow, he's really sniffing around that Yankee Chicken Coup isn't he? From what I've read, he pulled out of the Nationals Race when they got serious with him. Perhaps he wants a chance to work for da boss. Or da boss' Son in Law (God Forbid)

What it would take for Crawford
I think Crawford is an elite talent guy. I seem to remember him coming off a pretty serious injury at the begining of this year, and that once he got rolling, he was putting up MVP type numbers. If you look at his first month it's clear the injury hurt mostly his power stats .269 avg .340 obp .355 slg If you take that out, i'm guessing his slugging is looking a bit more impressive on the year. (.505 by my Math) that's pretty ridiculous for a .300 hitter who stole 58 bases and played exceptional OF defense. You can't look at him and say he's a corner outfielder that's only hitting 18 hr so far. That's not his skill set. There aren't any corner outfielders putting up his speed numbers. You may counter with, but he IS playing Corner OF, to that i respond, that's where they're playing him now. I truly believe he's on the brink of a 25 hr 55 sb .300 year. Heck, he's pretty much already done that. (a few times)

Another CF Idea
Comparing him to Reggie Abercrombie isn't very accurate. Choo put up a .291 AA season over 430 atbats. Choo put up a .297 AAA season over 360 atbats. Reggie had ONE good mark in the California league for 120 at bats. That was a whole 29 games. I think you're being very dismissive.

Another CF Idea
I've read that the Mexican League is littered with AA and AAA level pitching, including some ML talent. I'm not saying he's gonna be a super star for us, but he might just be a solid avg major leauge hitter with power potential AND be able to Cover CF VERY well, with PLUS range and a PLUS arm. ALso, he will cost VERY little. Here are his complete Minor League Stats. Obviously he was a 'toolsy' guy that took a LONG time to develop. The thing is,,,,HE MIGHT ACTUALLY HAVE DONE SO. Choo Stats

Another CF Idea
He's finally learned to hit, He's got crazy plus speed to cover the caverns of Dolphin Stadium, and he's going to be DIRT cheap, as the Rocks have nowhere to put him. Why WOULDN"T we be interested?

Another CF Idea
OF Choo Freeman, Yaquis de Obregon (Mexican Pacific League, Rockies) A 1998 first-round pick who has developed at a snail's pace, Freeman spent his first full year in the majors this season, appearing in 88 games as a bench outfielder and batting just .237/.298/.341. Sent to Mexico to get consistent at-bats for the first time all year, Freeman began the season with eight straight multi-hit games and is batting .500 (22-for-44) overall with a gaudy 1310 OPS south of the border. Scouts have always loved Freeman as an athlete, but his offensive skills have never been enough, and at 27, the projection is gone. All the Rockies can hope for at this point is his possibly becoming more attractive on the trade market. Could this guy solve our problems? Could he also have a sweet Nickname? Choo Choo & the D'Train

I'm really bored so.....
Jason Stokes now has a reason to stay healthy and get to the majors.....

Marlins International Signings in 2006
From the articles on BaseballAmerica earlier this year, it sounded like the Yankees, Nationals, and Redsox grabbed most of the top-shelf talent. Yanks, Sox, Nats top signees Here's a link that shows where the most money went... top signings We need a world-wide draft.

Gaby Sanchez 1st base 2007?
I can't see anyway it happens out of spring training, but i guess by the end of the year it's possible. I'm still holding out hope against hope for my boy Stokes to get healthy....But that's probably a pipe dream that will never be realized.

Damaso Marte
I too love him, but how could the front office justify spending 3 million on him, when there are people who think we're going to have to trade Dontrelle or Miguel due to their upcoming raises of between 6 and 14 million total? I would LOVE to add an arm like Marte's and most people DO undervalue a great middle reliever. But until Miggy and Dontrelle are officially locked in for next year, how can we even entertain such a thought. I WISH we had an owner that would make that move. Unfortunately it will be the Yanks, Dodgers, Mets, or someone like that to offer him 12 million over 3 years.

Coolest Minor League Team
Myself, I am kinda partial to the Durham Bulls for obvious reasons. I wanna see someone hit that damn bull one of these days. has it not ever been hit? do you actually get a free steak if you hit it? (it said that in bull durham) It gets hit all the time. In fact i have some home video of BJ Upton blasting it 7-8 times during batting practice. It's almost like he was hunting, rather than taking BP.

Marlins All Prospect Team
Link to Hoppers stats. Also you make a point earlier that they wouldn't have someone playing 1b/3b/ and catcher if he wasn't a good defensive player..... Actually that's EXACTLY what they'd do. If they can't find a position that he can play at the major league level, they would keep bouncing him around. If he was a good catcher,,,,he'd never leave that position. If he was a good third baseman,,,, they'd keep him there till it was obvious he was ready for the bigs. Then he'd hit the obvious roadblock of Miguel, and they'd either move him or convert him to the OF.

Rule V draft... Should we take a chance?
to the people who keep saying, why not take a chance you have nothing to lose,,,, using a spot on your 25 man roster is a BIG deal. If you want to bring someone in, you HAVE to be sure he's worth the spot another relief pitcher could be filling.

Silver Lining? FOUND ONE
Well, we finished at .481 which tied us for Cleveland and Seattle for the 11th pick. Cleveland had a .576 record last year, Florida .512, and Seattle .426 so Seattle get's the 11th pick, we get the 12th, and Cleveland the 13th. We easily could have had San Fran, Arizona, Colorado, and Cleveland get ahead of us, but they all slipped behind at the last moment. What a perverse thing to root for, but i'm looking big picture. Michael Main with the 12th pick please
