They have a LF for the future in Murton and they have Jones in RF. That leaves them a blocked point for Pie.

They'd get rid of Jones for Pie, trust me.

In my opinion I think they desperately need some new fresh young arms that are not oft-injured, so it can go either way, I mean they do need pitching more than they need hitting at this point. I'll reserve further comments until I see atleast 75% of their offseason unfold.

They need hitting, but with Soriano, and a healthy DLee, the offense will be much improved off their absymal offensive season last year.

They have three really strong hitters in Aramis Ramirez, Derrek Lee, and Alfonso Soriano (if they are all healthy).

Wasn't Pie injured? That itself lowers his value

I can't see a way Pie would ever land here:

 

They wouldn't trade us Nolasco + someone for Pie.. doesn't help them now.

 

They know we most likely wouldn't give up Johnson, Olsen or Sanchez for him.

 

The only way he'd end up here is if it were a trade with DTrain, and they really dont have anything we'd take along with Pie. I mean, Rich Hill and Felix Pie would look nice but thats not enough for the Train. Unless of course you take Angel Guzman for the bullpen this year and completely gut their minor league system that has guys like Samardjza, Patterson, Pawalek, etc.

 

 

Pie wont go anywhere unless the Cubs get desperate for middle of the rotation pitching. They'd be smart to let him sit in the minors one more year. The guy does look like a stud though.

Uh huh! I guess we'll just have to wait and see how valued Pie is to the Cubs. Just keep in mind that Petit is a highly valued pitching prospect and Pie has yet to prove anything either...except that he can hit .287 at AAA.

Never really thought him to be highly valued. He has average stuff and scouts were more often wondering how he could actually put up the #s he did than raving about him.

#1 - Given the choice between believing my eyes vs a bunch of minor league #s and some "expert's" projections, I will go with me everytime. I may not always be right, but niether will the sheep following the "experts". At least I know why I think what I think.

I believe he can do it, but I'd rather not hold my breath on it, and if it happens - great.

I was never high on Vargas and was all about trading him before last season when he was maybe worth something.

sure...but there's no guarantee on him being healthy, and that's part of the problem. He could just as easily have another injury-hampered season next year, or worse.

They need to fill 3 rotation spots, hence why I put this out there.

No, but that's where the Cubs plan on putting him, out there in spacious Wrigley Field

He has enough of an arm to do ok. At least comparable to JP, although good & bad in completely different ways.

 

Getting that kind of offense out of CF will be the big bonus I imagine.

No, but the only reason he signed with the Cubs is they promised him the leadoff spot and that he'd only play 1 outfield position, which will be CF unless they find somebody to take Jacque Jones (which they won't) or if they are dumb enough to trade Matt Murton (which they aren't).

I was pretty sure Vargas was gonna Tank. Johnson is a completely different breed of pitcher and I never see him losing his ability to pitch altogether like Vargas did.

I think Rich Hill is gonna have a better future than Dontrelle and the Cubs aren't gonna get rid of him for pretty much anyone. Hendry declared him untouchable last year and I don't see why this year would be different. There's no way they would attach him to their top prospect to trade for a guy who will probably only be slightly above average the next few years.
