November 2, 200619 yr Nov 1 - If the White Sox were willing to part with Brandon McCarthy, they might be able to pry away left fielder Carl Crawford from the Devil Rays, the Daily Herald reports. from espninsider. I would do a deal like this as long as it does not include Willis, Sanchez, Johnson or Olsen. It probably would take more than one of our other pitchers but this is another person's thoughts on value. Not alot of starting pitching on the market.
November 2, 200619 yr willis + something to get crawford the CWS will need to give up McCarthy + Fields most likely and more.
November 2, 200619 yr I think they would want Sanchez/Willingham. I think the Marlins would offer Willingham, Nolasco + Petit or Pinto.
November 2, 200619 yr I want to keep Willingham and I'll regret if we lose Willis. I'd do something like: Jacobs, Johnson, Prospect
November 2, 200619 yr He's not even a CF. it wouldn't be worth it for us. He can play CF. Just cause he didnt play CF last season doesnt mean anything.
November 2, 200619 yr I want to keep Willingham and I'll regret if we lose Willis. I'd do something like: Jacobs, Johnson, Prospect See, the beauty of trades is both sides have to want to do it...

November 3, 200619 yr If we trade Willis + another player for Crawford i would never be for it. crawford is not at all as valuable as Willis is to me. a 25 yr old GREAT left handed pitcher or a CF with speed a good bat but not enough power. just not interested.
November 3, 200619 yr Ok, he's started in CF 49 times total in 5 ML Seasons. He's not even the best guy for that job on his own team, trading any of our corner-stone talents for him is a mistake. Even entertaining the idea of trading Willis for him is insulting.
November 3, 200619 yr What would it take for the D-rays to trade us Carl Crawford???...errr...A miracle? :confused
November 3, 200619 yr if we can land Crawford by dealing away Jacobs and just Petit / Pinto then that would be fine.
November 3, 200619 yr if we can land Crawford by dealing away Jacobs and just Petit / Pinto then that would be fine. and that wouldnt happen
November 3, 200619 yr if we can land Crawford by dealing away Jacobs and just Petit / Pinto then that would be fine. I like Pinto, and we would have to pay them to take Petit.
November 3, 200619 yr if we can land Crawford by dealing away Jacobs and just Petit / Pinto then that would be fine. I like Pinto, and we would have to pay them to take Petit. Yea Petit, the 22 year old bust
November 3, 200619 yr if we can land Crawford by dealing away Jacobs and just Petit / Pinto then that would be fine. maybe if you lace the full F.O. of Tampa Bay with LSD and try to convince them that Jacobs is really Albert Pujols with a Name change it would work they want a legit young ace and another good pitching spec folks. It would cost alot to get him. Yea Petit, the 22 year old bust One does need more than youth to succeed. He has put up great numbers every year till this year. He is far from a bust so far. He wasnt used properly this year even and then sent down to a hitter paradise. I guess Mickey Mantle was a bust because he sucked so bad he got booed and sent down his first year. :whistle
November 3, 200619 yr it was more of a thought then an actual proposal. they would want some front-line pitching in return and right now we could fine something more convienent for us wit another team.

November 3, 200619 yr Author i actually like crawford in LF, willy at 1b and deal jacobs to the pirates for Mike Gonzalez. I think with our pitching we need to bring in a great defensive cf.

I guess Mickey Mantle was a bust because he sucked so bad he got booed and sent down his first year. :whistle So now he's Mickey Mantle... W/e. He wouldn't be the first guy to have good minor league numbers that never translate to the Majors. Maybe he'll develop...I hope for the team's sake he does. But I don't know that you can sell teams on his 3.08 Minor League Career ERA next to his big league 9.57 anymore than you can show off Eric Reed's Minor League career OBP over 340 while having to admit that in the majors his OBP was under 200. I guess I just don't look at minor league numbers as insurance that he will become an ace or whatever you think he will be. But I figure teams trading big name players want to get players in return that they can be confident will help their Major League team win. Petit hasn't shown it at that level yet.
November 3, 200619 yr i am completely against any trade that involves giving up pinto...he has filthy stuff...
November 3, 200619 yr Pinto will be in our Bullpen next Season. I am not connected to the D-Rays FO but in reference to previous trade proposals previously reported they would demand something like Scott Olsen, Anibal Sanchez and Taylor Tankersly in exchange for Carl Crawford maybe a little more. Anyone willing to pay that price?
November 3, 200619 yr If they'll do Dontrelle for Carl Crawford straight up, why the hell not? The guy could OPS .850 next year and has shown in very limited playing time that he's at least league average in Center. He appears to be getting more patient, and he's starting to show some power. He's a legit .300 hitter with 25 homer potential, and the best part is he's only 25. And don't forget those triples. He's a lock for 15 triples, and could get up to 20 with the triangle. This would be the type of trade a contender tries to make. Trade Dontrelle for Crawford, pick up a cheap 5th starter or plug Petit in the 5th spot and let's roll.
November 3, 200619 yr Trade Dontrelle for Crawford, pick up a cheap 5th starter or plug Petit in the 5th spot and let's roll. Stuffing crap into a rotation spot (Ismael Valdez, Brian Moehler) is exactly why the Marlins haven't been in the playoffs last few years. If Hermida realizes all that potential he'll be putting up those numbers. All we need is some actual defense in CF, not a corner OFer who will cost us our number 1 pitcher. Our needs can be met for much cheaper. Sure, they may not have Crawford's offensive numbers, but it also won't require us to give up anything close to Dontrelle.
