That's their careers, both of which started in 2012, so that's a completely level playing field and that's literally their "whole body of work". First, Eovaldi is not "capable of getting hitters out at a better rate" based on their career WHIP. And Eovaldi is not really any better at getting ground ball outs, either, considering their GB% is almost identical. I never said Koehler was "better than Eovaldi" (I said he was better this year), but based on the numbers above, if I did say that, it would not be "absolutely ridiculous". Instead, it looks to me like over the last 3 years they're basically the same flyball, hard contact pitcher you described. Except Koehler is taking steps forward and Eovaldi is going backward considering the most relevant season is 2014. This is true. And obviously this fact tells us he absolutely has a much higher ceiling, which makes him much more valuable than Koehler. It all depends on how the Marlins feel about Eovaldi internally, because considering service time if they don't believe he's going to be more than a #4-5 within the next 2 years, it's time to move him while he's still valuable. He certainly could become that frontline arm by his age 27 season, where with Koehler we know what he is at 27. But along that journey, is he going to be better than Koehler? If so, will he be much better? Because a 27 year old Eovaldi is irrelevant to the Marlins; for better or worse he will not be here by then. His ceiling is only relevant to us if he is going to get there by 2016. Is this your argument? It's invalid.

A really good one was the private texts Lebatard was recieving from inside the organization for the reasonings why they made the larger trade, and two weeks later the smaller one. With that piece of audio clip- everything fell into place neatly. For those of us who bled Black and Teal, and now Black, Red-Orange, Blue and yellow.... We can pretty much identify the source of those texts.

TBH I thought they traded escobar because of his price tag + they actually did/still do think Adeiny is a perennial all star + they used to like deitrich. He was traded for to play 3B in Miami, but he changed his mind a few days after meeting with the Marlins in an effort to be traded. He didn't want to upset his "compatriot" as he put it and try to take the SS position- pretty much putting his writing on the wall. What was happening infront of the stadium and elsewhere was a lot of people were upset about his homophobic comments and his trade TO Miami and were picketing and petiotioning to have him never suit up. In addition to the fact fan favorites were traded- him being a homophobe on top of that was just the icing on the cake. The marlins, already facing a massive PR backlash from the trade alone- didn't want the added negative PR for having traded for a homophobic player in a market where the LGBT dollar is about 20% of the marketplace- in addition to their families who may feel it is against their principles to support a organization that pays and relys on a homophob. They wanted to reinvest his contract in another 3B to show the Escobar trade wasn't about the money- but all the 3B options declined because they didn't want to be a part of a crummy team who just gutted a roster after a spending spree. This was right around the time Samson said "Free Agents will go where the money is". Obviously this proved to be incorrect at the time. The Marlins were a sinking ship that no one willingly wanted to jump aboard. Players like Kotchman, Polanco and Slowey saw it as rebuilding their careers. Reynolds and Stewart saw it as ending theirs. Escobar was just trying to avoid playing in Miami, used the issue of a new position to force the move and wanted to avoid the public backlash the LGBT community was going to unleash on him when he would finally play. No matter what WildTurd said before- the move was not about money. They couldn't find anyone to take theirs as a matter of fact. The Marlins were the known AIDS patient, wanting to bareback an escort with a brand new hotel as the backdrop. No one had a career death wish- except those who had their careers on life support and had nothing more to lose.
