I really, REALLY, REALLY doubt that they traded Jose Reyes just so they could get Hechavarria. In fact, I'm pretty damn certain of it. They traded Reyes for two reasons, the first being money. The second was that he was our only leverage in the deal to begin with. Without him we probably would have been unable to unload the contracts of Johnson and Buerhle, and even if we could have done it without him, we would have gotten next to nothing instead of three pretty good prospects in Nico/Mars/Disco.
