Casey McGehee

Featured Replies

Casey earned a short leash in the lineup next year. If he didn't have such a difficult 2nd half Id even say he earned another full year.

He should be at 3B or 1B next year, and in the lineup As long as he's hoverimg around .290.

He's serviceable.

Ideally, we get a 3B for the long term- swing McGehee to 1B and dip into a free agent 2B if one who's worth it is available.

Or - trade for Tulo and Cargo.

At the end of the day Casey's stats aren't as great as they once were, but they aren't bad. The free agent options available for third base aren't nearly as good as what Casey would give us production wise next season.

Going into next season 1B and replacing Garrett Jones needs to be a top priority. A .715 OPS from your starting first baseman is simply not acceptable. We know the outfield barring an unforeseen Stanton trade will be Yelich/Ozuna/Stanton, 3B will be Casey unless something crazy happens and we trade for a better 3B (which would cost a top prospect, so no), SS will Adeiny no matter how much you bitch and moan, 2B will be given to either Kike Hernandez or Derek Dietrich, depending on who performs better in Spring Training (Hernandez is the early favorite, but both have good potential as everyday players. Whoever loses this battle will become a starter at some point anyway whether it be Casey underperforming or either Casey/Adeiny/starting 2B getting injured), and catcher will be Salty's while we wait for Realmuto/Barnes/Wallach to develop. Jones is the one spot in the starting lineup that urgently needs to be replaced ASAP. I'd be absolutely shocked if the Marlins don't do anything, and I don't see Bour starting at 1B Opening Day 2015 as a solution to the problem.

I think you guys are letting a few hundred ABs where ground balls went where they ain't cloud your judgement.

Casey's 2nd half: .237/.308/.305

Polanco last year: .260/.315/.302

So you're just erasing his 1st half?

Not erasing but qualifying it. His 1st half .390 babip or whatever it was with 51% groundballs was clearly and utterly unsustainable as seen by his last 236 ABs. His 2nd half numbers are far more indicative of what kind of production we'll get which is pretty much placido polanco with a few more doubles.

So is your argument that you want the Marlins to bring back Polanco?!?!?!

The infield as a whole is flawed, of the players there now, McGehee is the only one I would bring back. I for one was pleasantly surprised by the production the Marlins received from McGehee this season, realistically though I would like him in the Dobbs/Helms role of spot starts at first and third and pinch hitting. But I don't see anyone in the minors they can replace him with and I sure as hell don't see any free agents worth anything wanting to come here, so there he is starting at third!

Hell no that's not my argument. My argument is Casey is terrible and we need a serious upgrade at 3b as well as the other infield positions.

Well, we have a recent first round pick in the minor leagues who...

oh shit, never mind.

He is a lot better than anything we had last year at 3rd base... or has your memory completely erased last season?

I agree completely. His stats fell a bit, but even if he replaces Gar-shit at 1B, it's not even close to the worst. I've always loved Casey.. Even more so after his reaction on Stantons horrendous night a few weeks back.

It's also nice to be talking about someone other than freaking Jeter today! I'm so sick of everyone crying about his last home game.

Let's try this again:

Casey's 2nd half: .237/.308/.305

Polanco last year: .260/.315/.302

SO YOU'RE SAYING YOU WANT POLANCO BACK?!?!?!?!?!

Will be kinda interesting to see how it all plays out with Stanton too. Like will they attempt to sign a "serious" FA or two or make a trade (to show him they're making real efforts to spend/win) and then approach Stanton about a deal? Or do they make their attempt early so that if he doesn't sign they can look at other options if they want to lock someone up or offer a multiyear FA deal, or do nothing at all.

Casey is staying on the team.

My brother confirmed this to me the other night after speaking with Dan Jennings. #insidesources #betterthansquall

I don't think we needed sources to know they are going to bring back Casey.

Agreed that Jones is the biggest problem. I do think Bour deserves a shot, dude is seriously intriguing.

I agree.

I just wanted to act cool because my brother was part of a 45-minute conversation with Dan Jennings.

As for Bour, no disrespect to him, but if we're keeping our left side of the infield, we should spend some money for a proven commodity next year at 1B. This team has progressed this year, and I think bringing in another free agent bat would be a way to show the players (like that guy, Giancarlo Stanton) that the front office believes in them. You can't just comeback next year with the same, exact shitty infield.

We need to sign a veteran SP too. That's what I want this offseason; a SP and a bat (preferably two).

Replacing Jones with Bour wouldn't be the same shitty infield, it would be replacing the declining veteran with the promising rookie. Story of our lives, but it doesn't mean Bour can't be better than spending too much on Adam LaRoche or something like that.

And having Dietrich/Hernandez at second base would also not be the same shitty infield, considering Donovan Solano played most of the season. Both are promising, and if nothing is available worth spending for I hope they give them the opportunity.
