Trip Time!
make sure you walk on the san diego bay pier and go over to cornado if you have enough time. the best beach in the city is la jolla shores, imo. pacific beach, although decent, is a bit of a tourist trap and a must avoid during holiday weekends. don't know too much about downtown nowadays, but it was a mess up until a few years ago. horton plaza is an interesting shopping center downtown (it's outdoors, same with much of san diego's shopping malls). i don't think anyone has mentioned balboa park yet, but check it out on a tuesday. balboa park has a ton of museums, gardens and parks, including the san diego zoo, and on tuesdays, a bunch of them are free (it's nice to just walk through the large park as well). i don't know too much about la, expect the irvine spectrum and the block at orange, two mega malls on the i-5 in orange county. if you have any questions about san diego, feel free to pm me, since i used to live there.

The Dismantling of Shea Stadium Has Begun
even though shea was a toilet bowl, i still think it was stadium filled with what was right with baseball in some strange way: how you can see outside from the outfield, and it felt like a throwback to the old days in a way, but then again, i'm a big nostalgia nerd and i think it had a few more years left in it. but citi field looks to be a good stadium, but we'll see, i just hope it's not a distraction park like some of the other newer ones and resemble the new cookie cutters (stadiums that look like oriole park and the such).

MLB Network
One live regular-season game will be seen on the network on either Thursday or Saturday night. But it will be a simulcasted version of a game produced in one of the teams? local markets, and the MLB Network feed will be seen only outside that area. sounds like what nbatv does when they have a game. What im excited about is the show their gonna air when the season starts. Cant remeber the name but its gonna be like baseball tonight from what i hear and it starts a 6 every night and doesnt end till 12. I get pissed when ESPN cuts baseall tonight short for other crap. i hope mlb network gives espn a run for it's money in 2-3 years, espn's coverage sucks.

Reconsidering the Salary Cap
i say no salary cap. just because you have more money doesn't mean you always win. if this were true, we should be seeing yankee/red sox/cubs dynasties all over, but we're not. sure, having money has an advantage, but look at the mariners and the rangers, they spend and haven't done squat in years. also look at the small market teams that actually do something. money can't buy everything, and it can't buy a world series. just like in business, the biggest companies aren't always the best ones, it's the ones that are run the best. the thing that's the issue is that many small market owners don't even try to win and keep putting these bad teams on the field. the solution to that is to get owners that try to win, no matter how much money they have. if there was a cap, i say also get a salary floor if we want things to be fair and equal.

NFL Thread- Week 16
jets are about to choke the game away...opens a huge door for the pats next week.
-
NFL Thread- Week 16
assuming the jets win, there's almost no chance we see the patriots in the playoffs unless the dolphins-jets game ends in a tie and the patriots win against the bills next week.

NFL Thread- Week 16
OK WTF We are so off our game right now defense is not gettng close to the QB, Pennington is trying to throw passes that no one can make and our running game has been sucking because the O Line can't hold Sparano better chew there asses for this next half the dolphins looked awful near the end of the half. they better come out hitting, otherwise, it's lights out for the playoffs, as the pats are beating down on the cardinals 0-38.

NFL Thread- Week 16
Wtf? 4th and 1 from the 5 yardline and you throw a fade? Give it to the fullback! why didn't they kick it for the 3 points, and now instead they get no points. :thumbdown

Furcal to Sign with Braves OR NOT....
furcalchick just died of a broken heart. very funny rab. i'm still here, but i'm still upset. his stupid agent duped us, and it's going to take me a while to think about this here. even though furcal would have been nice for us, i think he wouldn't have fit as well into our plans, and plus, he's had health issues. perhaps all for the better in the long run. i still think the braves should trade kj and frenchy and get some prospects and go young (2009 was likely a lost cause anyway) and plan for 2010 and beyond.

Furcal to Sign with Braves OR NOT....
furcal back to the bums. we've been played, again. that's three strikes (peavy, burnett, furcal). stupid agent. looks like it's the cellar for the braves for 09. His fricken bat flip he does every time he hits the ball. He carrys him self in a arrogant way too. Id also love to see that man gone hie rips our pitching. Escobar did a few things last year a rookie has no business doing, and if not for close games, he would have been drilled a few times... Well since he wasn't a rookie last year, I guess the little bat flip which seems to hurt marlins fans feelings can be over looked? the bat flipping is not about arrogance i think, i personally think it's his way of getting rid of the bat. i think he is a bit of a jerk, but not as huge as marlin fans have been saying he is (probably biased, rightfully so).

Furcal to Sign with Braves OR NOT....
I think they should get andrew jones back but for a smaller contract maybe 2 years 5 mil Maybe all he needs is to come back home no, he's too fat. i don't know what he needs right now, but a trip home won't fix his swing because he won't listen to his hitting coach.

Furcal to Sign with Braves OR NOT....
i'm so happy my boy decided to come back to atlanta, but at the same time, i don't want to get rid of yunel, because i see his defense to be just as good, or perhaps better than furcals. this is probably going to open the door for a peavy trade again, by getting rid of escobar or johnson. i would trade away johnson because his trade value is peaking and escobar is still rising. if we got another good pitcher, watch out, we're back.

A little info nugget on a possible Peavy Deal
i don't think peavy is getting traded. from kevin towers' mouth: The Padres have been unable to line up a trade with one of Jake Peavy's preferred teams and next could turn elsewhere to move the ace pitcher's four-year, $63 million guarantee amid apparent financial duress. ?We've had advanced discussions with the Cubs and Braves, which are Jake's priority teams,? General Manager Kevin Towers said Thursday night, ?but at this point in time, I do not see a potential deal with either club.?

2008 WORLD SERIES: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays
i was pulling for the rays in this series, and i'm not bitter at the phillies for winning the series. they played well, and the rays didn't show up. the phillies have a great makeup and chemistry in their team, i like their players. their fans, that's another story.

2008 WORLD SERIES: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays
Yeah, you're right. I should have known that. or was it that they will have the day off for travel? that is unless evan longoria is going to become mr. november. and btw, next year, game 7 will be on nov. 7th. question: is it just me, or this world series heading towards becoming a disaster?

2008 WORLD SERIES: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays
the rays chances were decent until blanton hit the homer. then they looked slim. this team is not hitting at all, the pitching isn't doing much, defense is sad, in short, these aren't the rays we've seen all year. after the rays lost game one, i didn't panic, and i said that i will only start to panic if the rays were losing in their elimination game. i'm not panicking yet, even with hamels on the mound, but if kazmir coughs up more than 2 runs early, i think it's going to be over for the rays. if the rays however show up tonight, i think they could win the series with a renewed sense of their team.

2008 WORLD SERIES: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays
They have no class up there do they nope. philly has the worst fans in north america (i think foreign crowds will beat them up). btw, has anyone gotten sick of mccarver being dumb?

2008 WORLD SERIES: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays
And Furcal Chick: Can you just announce that you are a Rays fan now? It's quite obvious lol She's changing her user name to "LongoriaChick" as we speak. i'll admit the rays are my al team, but the braves are still my #1 team. and btw, matt garza is my fav ray, and i'm not changing my username. nice try guys. This should be no problem for the Rays. The Red Sox are 10x the harder opponent than the Phillies. The Phils aint even that good. I'm mean I never feared playing them once this year. Yet, I did fear playing the Rays. Of course flukes do happen, like the Cardinals a few years back. i think the cardinals won that series because the tigers didn't play for a week between the lcs and the world series and the cardinals played a 7 game nailbiter with the the mets that ended with beltran with the bat on his shoulder, keeping the cardinals hot. i expect the rays to win this series in 4 or 5 games.

2008 WORLD SERIES: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays
If the Sox had won, I wouldn't even have watched the Series. same here. i can't stand the red sox at all, and seeing the phillies win the world series wasn't a pleasing sight either. Obviously pulling the The Rays here. Should be a good series (7 games!). so you're suggesting the rays throw 2 games in the series...lol. rays will finish this in 5 games max. GO RAYS I love how the Sox fans up here are saying "screw the rays and their bandwagon fans" Old bandwagoners calling new bandwagoners bandwagoners. :confused and you wonder why nobody likes the red sox anymore. and the best part, fox is stuck with ratings poison with two ratings losers for their world series and them scrambling for stories. here's one: each of tampa bay's championship runs have involved philly with the bucs beating the eagles in the nfc championship game and the lighting beating the flyers in the eastern conference finals. if the rays beat the phillies in the world series, expect philly to have tampa bay envy for some time to come.

go rays! make it 9=1!

Matt Garza
i loved garza this season, he's maturing into a great pitcher, 2 cg shutouts and the one hitter against the marlins. his only flaw is that he's inconsistent and you don't know which garza you will get on any given day. he reminds me of the big z or johan santana by his build.
