6/12 -- Marlins vs. Phillies
Tarp is off. *busies himself changing the e-mail on his vote form* :mischief EDIT: I've burned through three e-mail addresses. Today? Today? 2 3/4. I just figured out that the ballot keeps the choices, letting me vote rapidly. :mischief

Marlins pick builders for stadium
unfortunately, we arent getting the soccer stadium. we needed to secure a franchise by the june 1 deadline set by either the county or the city (or both, i forgot which) in order to get the sss built next to the marlins stadium. not only did we not get a team, but there wasnt even any movement, no potential owners emerged at all. from what i understand, the city/county moved on... i believe it means we will have a bigger ballpark village. the 17th and 18th mls teams will most likely go to st. louis and montreal. all is not lost, futbol fans... fiu offered an mls team free rent at their new stadium if they move there. imo, its more likely that a chivas usa or columbus crew move to miami (fiu) before we get an expansion team. the mls cannot ignore the south florida market forever... for obvious reasons. if any of you guys are soccer fans and want to see an mls team in miami, go to www.miamisoccerfan.com and register. Chivas moving to Miami just sounds fitting...

How many now?
The walkoff single by Edgar Renteria in the 97 World Series still owns all. It would take an Ultimate Grand Slam in a World Series Game 7 to supplant it. :mischief

Marlins pick builders for stadium
The Florida Marlins announced Tuesday they have selected one of the top sports stadium construction groups in the country, and a local builder familiar with Miami-Dade County, to build the team's new $515 million complex in Little Havana. Construction is expected to begin late this year -- if Miami-Dade commissioners vote to accept a construction and a separate management contract before July. Hunt Construction Group and Moss and Associates will build the 37,000-seat stadium, with a retractable roof and 60 suites, essentially on the footprint where the Orange Bowl once stood. The team is expected to announce the exact construction site in the next week for a stadium slated to open in 2011. ''Negotiations will start immediately as we continue to move forward with design documents,'' Claude Delorme, the Marlins senior vice president of stadium operations, said in a statement. Hunt and members of Moss' executive team built Sunrise's BankAtlantic Center for the Florida Panthers. Hunt, which was formed in 1944, has built 16 baseball stadiums -- including Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., the new Busch Stadium in St. Louis, and Citi Field where the New York Mets will soon play. Five of the 16 have retractable roofs. Moss is the second largest general contractor in Florida. The architect for the new Marlins facility is H.O.K. Sport. LINK We already knew about this I guess, but at least it is news that they are releasing. And what I find promising is the statement that I bolded. Have a great Hump Day Everyone!!! I'm sure they mean where in the parcel they will build it. If it's dead center, it'll just be the ballpark. If it's north or south... it may be soccer field time. :mischief

Ryan Tucker's ML debut...
LOL.... I meant his pitches but I will take that for some entertainment. I am not getting any HW done tonight lol. I was just saying that's all I could find of Beckett pitching in a Marlins uniform. But yes, much fun. :mischief

Ryan Tucker's ML debut...
Does anyone have any video of a young Beckett/Penny? It's been a long time since their ML debuts. All I can find is camera phone video of the final out of the 2003 World Series, taken from the upper deck of Yankee Stadium. Judging from the cheering around them, they were Marlins fans. :mischief

6/8 - Marlins vs Reds
I predict a very good day for Ryan Tucker and the Marlins. :mischief

Tropical Storm Arthur
If a storm crosses over from Pacific to Atlantic or vice versa, it's given a new name. It has happened on rare occasion in the past. BTW: The Pacific season actually starts "officially" on May 15.

Fan wins free funeral at minor league game
There are no words for this. Hopefully, for that price, she can get an MLB-themed casket included. Mike Veeck and the St. Paul Saints would be proud. :mischief

Ideas for names
Since the stadium won't get done because of Braman....we should name the land Braman Honda Park...dickface THE STADIUM WILL GET DONE JUST BECAUSE BRAMAN IS PART OF THIS. HE PROBABLY DOESNT REALIZE IT YET. I propose a special seat for him. It will be located in the center eastbound lane of SR 836, and he'll be strapped to it at the beginning of rush hour before the tollbooth clogs up. :mischief

The Orange Bowl Demolition Thread
Anyone for flag football? We have a big, empty field that we can use. :mischief They could turf the hole over and build a cricket/Aussie football ground like they did in Lauderhill. :mischief

Norman Braman Lawsuit Thread
Why did this c**t ever leave philadelphia? He was run out of philly. Consensus of Phil sports fans is that he was the worst owner in the history of all Phil. sports teams. Look, I know who Braman is. He is a very philanthropic man who does not do things anonymously. In the organizations I am involved in, when Norman gives something he believes in he makes demands and expects the credit, even when he is just a part of something. He is a blowhard who does do a lot of good, but is one of those people who also alienates good people who do not want to work with him in a voluntary situation. So, HYde is enamored with him, I guess I can now go along with marlins2003, Hyde is a jerk (my opinion), not for taking a position but more with the tone of the article. He is elevating Braman to Saint like status. If I was asking the questions, I would also ask him: 1. What happened to the stadium in Phil that he was putting up the money? What does putting up mean-I know that the money was never turned over to anyone for escrow for the stadium-it was just an offer, more like a suggestion. To say he "put up" $310 million is misleading. DID JOHN HENRY BUILD A STADIUM? He offered it-although he never did it. Same here. If he gave the money, why didn't Phil. build it? 2. What other areas of expenditures has Norman previously fought against? The airport, the performing arts center? What? Highway overruns? Or is it just sports facilities that he has a thing for? Maybe because things didn't quite go as planned in Philadelphia, he has a thing against governments and sports facilities. Whatever the purpose, I don't know. Braman has been hitting the airwaves with Deforrest on a station most people in Dade County can not hear and since Broward and Palm Beach do not vote or give tax dollars for the stadium, there is no purpose there. Summary, the whole article seems to lack of journalistic integrity and objectivity. Me-oh yea, I am objective.lol So essentially he's a few steps below Jeffrey Loria, and one or two above H. Wayne Huizenga? :mis2
