The Rangers suck..
I was originally going to go to both games of the double header (it was a true double header in that you only had to pay for one game), but I didn't because it's been cold and rainy here all day and I just don't like the Orioles that much. Kinda wish I'd gone now. YOU ARE SO STUUUUUU-PUDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumbup

World Series memories
You know, not too long ago, I was watching a segment on Baseball Tonight on "Memorable Game Six Moments of the World Series" and Beckett's shutout was not even mentioned! But, then again, who is surprised? Those tools on ESPN are morons. Especially that fat f***er John Kruk. My first Marlins game was back in 95 or 96. They were playing the Giants. Bonds was about 150 pounds or so. He really hit the gym this this past decade, eh? As for glorious Marlins moments, I was there for Game 3 and 4 of the NLDS in 2003. The Giants went ahead, and half of the stadium emptied out. Then, Pudge came up and we had that little rally. That was awesome. We need more moments like that. That had to have been Game 3. I was at Game 4, and it was hoppin' all night long. It would have been a rout if D-Train didn't leg out that triple.

My vision: The Ballpark at the Orange Bowl
A second try, looking at the field facing downtown and the roof opening from the other side. Third base line can see downtown. First base line can see airplanes approaching MIA. :thumbup

My vision: The Ballpark at the Orange Bowl
I decided to actually plant a stadium in place of the Orange Bowl at as close to the same scale as possible, and discovered it can be done in roughly the same footprint as the OB. I present to you... MARLIN STADIUM. Also, an unroofed stadium of the dimension of Kauffman Stadium fits nicely too. That is one sexy ballpark....except it has no skyline view. So swap the roof so the roof opens to the west instead of the east. This doesn't have to be exactly what it looks like. I'm just demonstrating that a ballpark can fit in the footprint of the OB with little to no parking loss. What an ugly surrounding area.Thats about as low class as you can get :confused A new stadium will spur urban renewal in Little Havana. I agree with FreshFish. Where's your vision?

Orange Bowl
The hometown crowd can be a huge factor in the success of a team. Not really. How do you figure that? Well, intimidation of the opponent and support of the home team. Why do you think the Twins have never lost a World Series game in the Metrodome? A stadium full of Marlins fans would certainly be better for the team than a stadium that is 50% full with mostly Giants fans, for example. Meh. Sorry, this is just one of my pet peeves. To say that the Marlins (or any sports team) are underachieving because of lack of fan support is crazy talk. These are professional athletes getting paid millions of dollars based on their performance. If they were motivated by fans, they wouldn't/shouldn't be at this level. The Twins never losing a WS game in the metrodome has more to do with them being more comfortable with the funky design of the stadium than fan support. It also an unusually loud stadium thanks to the design, and I guess in this extreme case fans can make a slight difference. Maybe. I'm not saying it's the missing link or anything. I'm just saying it helps.

OB's Final Hour Is Upon Us
If I were in charge of developing the site, the stadium would go on the corner of 3rd and 16th (renamed Conine and McKeon Way :mischief ) with parking, possibly condos, and greenspace mixed throughout the rest of property. The roof would open to the leftfield side (parking under that) so you could have a view of the skyline to the east. Corrected. :thumbup

If only we could get a few of those people to go to the games. :mad True...as last Saturday nite showed, there is an audience there. The hometown crowd can be a huge factor in the success of a team. What is the status of Anibal Sanchez?
He did not have Tommy John surgery. He had rotator cuff surgery. Ouch, even worse. :confused

What is the status of Anibal Sanchez?
Sanchez had Tommy John Surgery in May and will be out til mid-next year. They've sunk him all the way down to AA Carolina. That's where he'll begin rehabbing when he's cleared to go.

LLWS Marlins reference
The host said the Georgia team was "like the Florida Marlins" becasue they win it all every time they're in the tournament the other guy said something along the lines of "well, at least they don't sell off their team" painful. :banghead

Orange Bowl
The Marlins' average attendance is very close to the Panthers, which is sad considering baseball games typically have far larger crowds than hockey. But the TV audience is 3 or 4 times that of the Panthers. I don't know if the Panthers even get a 1.0 Neilsen rating, which is just better than most informercials get in the middle of the night. I think the Marlins actually rank somewhere like 14th in TV viewership out of 30 teams, which is remarkable. If only we could get a few of those people to go to the games. :mad

World Series memories
Could be worse: Could be a fan of the cubs, indians, or San Francisco Giants....remember: the Giants have NEVER won a World Series, since they moved to San Fran back in 54... The Giants can't be blamed on long periods of mediocrity. The Giants have been in the World Series three times and won seven divisions since moving to SF (we know that first-hand). The Indians have had good amounts of success, including two World Series appearances, since the Major League movies (we know that first-hand, too). The Cubs... well, they're cursed (we even know that first-hand). The Marlins can actually point to hard proof of blatantly negligent ownership. H. Wayne Huizenga (fire sale), John Henry (lying about profitability, then buying the Red Sox) and Jeffrey Loria (second fire sale, threats to move). PS: The Giants moved for the 1958 season. 54 was the last time they won the World Series, in Manhattan.
