  1. What ever happened to Marlins2003 and Capefish, they used to be everywhere back in the day. Ramp was another very knowledgeable poster that got the boot a few years ago.
  2. It may been misleading because many live outside of the city of St. Louis, but all I was saying is a 45,000 crowd is 15% of the population of the city itself, that's all. You can't say that about many places.
  3. I've been to games during the summer in Cincinatti, St. Louis and Atlanta and it was at least as hot or humid as Florida. St. Louis was just unbearable. Cincinnati, and places like Louisville on the Ohio are disgustingly humid during the summer. Sometimes people in Florida have it in their head that it doesn't get hot and humid as hell anywhere else during the summer. But that aside. I think it's mainly the culture in Florida. Even though it's played so much here, I've been all over the east and have never seen a place so unenthusiastic as Florida. I'm thinking maybe it has to do with the fact that there isn't a history of baseball entrenched in the city and so many people are from other states or countries. In a lot of cities up north peoples great grandfathers have supported the same team as them. If I've never been anywhere else I'd probably be convinced that baseball is on par with hockey in terms of popularity. [/b]Also its pretty obvious that cities with the least amount of entertainment draw the most sports fans. I don't expect league average attendence long term but I'm just glad the Marlins will be around for a long time. This is the part that has me scratching my head. I don't agree. Unless you meant to say the least amount of entertainment that you personally like. That I could understand. I just can't come up with a top 10 attendance MLB team that dosen't have loads of other non baseball related activities. More times than not there is around 15% of the city of St. Louis at a Cardinal game, it would be hard to say that about some mega cities regardless of the capacity of the stadium. The greater St. Louis area in Missouri has a population of 2.7 million people. So the Cardinals are drawing almost 417,000 per game? Wow! The Cardinals are a regional team, like the Cubs, and the New York teams. Their fan base is not just St. Louis, but they draw from all over the Mid-West region of the country. That is why they not only draw well in St. Louis, but also have a strong following all over the country. The St. Louis Metropolitan Area still ranks around 20th in baseball in population so they still have one of the highest percentages of their population attending games. I realize there are a lot of regional Cardinal fans due to St. Louis being the most western baseball city at one point and some other reasons; but I'm not sure I believe that a vast majority of the fans day in day out aren't from the St. Louis Metro area. If you subtracted those not from the metro area I'd guarantee it would still be among the league leaders in attendance. The enthusiasm for the Cardinals in the city alone is unbelievable. I always heard about it but I was blown away in person.
  4. New Mars Volta album coming out in this year. The drummer in this Deantoni Parks (Mars Volta new drummer) is the new big thing in the drumming world. Omar Rodriguez the guitarist is the guitarist for The Mars Volta. Enjoy
  5. Found a pretty cool site a while back that shows stats from the day previous for the entire organization. http://firstinning.com/daily/fla I'll try to post a new thread every morning after it comes out so we can get some discussion going about some of our spects. Feel free to beat me to it if the site updates.
  6. What ever happened to Nny? He just shows up when somebody doesn't know how many options Burke Badenhop has left. Says he hasn't posted since 07. Unfortunate. His statistical analysis were great.

I just can't come up with a top 10 attendance MLB team that dosen't have loads of other non baseball related activities. It's hard to really gauge because all cities have different populations. Some cities have more sports teams than others and teams have better ballparks or stadiums. Of course your mega cities are going to draw, no matter what for whatever sport. It's also hard to figure out objectively which cities have less entertainment then others. For baseball, St. Louis is an example of city that does well attendance wise, maybe regardless of the tradition because its one of the only things to do on a regular basis. In a place like Miami, a baseball game is likely WAY further down the list of things to do. More times than not there is around 15% of the city of St. Louis at a Cardinal game, it would be hard to say that about some mega cities regardless of the capacity of the stadium. Cincinnati or Milwaukee will probably always have more potential to draw than Florida, for the same reason. There might be some things to do entertainment wise in those places but nothing like Miami. Maybe I got it in my head mostly from college football, which could be bad to base it on because there are factors like alumni and enrollment, public and private schools; but the schools with the mega stadiums are always in the most brutally boring places. Norman, Oklahoma, Lincoln, Nebraska, Anne Arbor, Michigan, Blacksburgh, Virginia, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I've been to Auburn dozens of ties the last few years and there is literally nothing to do all year around until football season. But I know this probably translates very little to baseball, it's just probably where I got it in my head. But common sense might make you think if a baseball game is among 10 other options for entertainment, there's less chance of someone picking a baseball game than if its among 3 other options.
  8. Hahaha, atleast no one was there to see it. Signed: Karl Ravech ESPN NEVER gets old for Karl. Cubs Marlins games in Miami usually draw acceptably. Both teams fans happened to be a little more interested in watching a big basketball game.
  9. I don't know about streaking, but I am already assembling a team of friends to jump the wall at the end of the last Marlins home game vs. the Nationals in Sun Life Stadium. If anyone would like to join, let me know! I think you're going to jail.. Jail's super underrated

  12. I'm all for inter league play. Baseballs unfair as ever now because there's 6 divisions, might as well see some new teams we barely ever get to see.
  13. That wasn't a rocket; it was a jam shot. Cool, I'll give u that one
  14. Let's not forget the stromboli Mujica was serving up tonight. He made one bad pitch. One bad pitch? 4 hits and 2 ER's is 1 bad pitch! He had a good first inning, and then served one of his hanging splitters to Marlon Byrd. One bad pitch. He gave up a rocket that Hanley caught. A rocket single by Starlin, a Ramirez single to center then a double play ball. He made a few bad pitches in his "good" inning and got away with it. The next inning he gave up a bomb to Byrd, then got lasered by Soriano. Erick he was throwing meatballs tonight he's lucky he gave up 2 ER.
  15. Let's not forget the stromboli Mujica was serving up tonight. He made one bad pitch. One bad pitch? 4 hits and 2 ER's is 1 bad pitch! Erick is very protective of Mujica. He's also very protective of disagreeing with everyone. Hence 25,000 posts in a few years.

  19. Anyway, I am unable to prove that batting orders are highly relevant. I think that you can be ESSENTIALLY just as successful writing the names down at random. You'd lose a little bit. Bill James
  20. How do you figure out which games are free?
  21. Eliminate the worthless W-L stat.
  22. What about Reid Cornelius??
  23. If Ceda keeps throwing strikes in AAA and eventually here we might finally have the dominating bullpen arm we need. But who would he replace?
