  1. The last player I want in center is hanley. You think he is lazy at ss? Imagine him having to run down balls that pass him in the gaps. No thanks lol I don't think Hanley is lazy at SS. But he is not quick.
  2. One of the Mermaids\ It's good to be the owner
  3. Come on, admit it. You've been sent from amazinz or something trying to drive actual Marlin fans out of their minds. Oops. Busted.
  4. I forgot Hayes as a minor leaguer So fourteen solid major leaguers and two of those are rookie prospects.
  5. How many non major leaguers do the Marlins have on the active roster? I say Boni Sanches Luna Tracy How many marginal major leaguers do the Marlins have on the active roster (meaning as likely as not to be in out of the Show next year)? I say Murphy Helms Veras Badenhop West Volstad
  6. Who takes over at SS then? Maybe the kid at AA. Maybe Donnie "bleepin" Murphy. Maybe we find a slick fielding shortstop prospect somewhere and trade for him. There is no CF on the horizon for the Marlins except for Maybin and he has failed in two chances so far and Maybin is nothing special with the glove.
  7. I thought the voted worst was C B Bucknor.
  8. Given how athletic Hanley is and talented he should be above average at SS. He just needs to get himself mentally right and not take plays off when on the field. He can't be making the spectacular play then blow the routine one. I think Stanton will be an above average RF. Uggla is here for his bat and just needs to provide decent d. Maybin is also crazy athletic and should be above average but he seems to lack confidence, instincts and makes a good amount of mental errors. Maybe this changes as he matures and gets comfortable. It takes more than athletic talent to play SS. That's why a lot of guys get converted from SS to CF in the minors, because the athleticism is better served in CF. SS requires exceptional quickness, coordination, and instincts, which don't necessarily go hand in hand with the guys who are the most athletic. Back in his early days, there was speculation that he could move to CF. He has improved a lot since then, but he'll have to hit his way to the gold glove. I would love to see the Marlins roll the dice and move Hanely to CF. If that worked out, it would open up the possibility of a lot of good things.
  9. Excellent thread. Many of the comments reflect the "halo effect" that fans give to their favorite teams. The Marlins do not have a single, solid plus glove on the roster. There are few, if any, centerfielders in mlb that are worse than Maybin has demonstrated. Watching most Marlins games, one seldom sees outstanding defensive plays, particularly in the infield. The Phillies, on the other hand, seemingly make one or two a game. The front office needs to earn their money by trades and free agents and some DFAs and some shuffling to bring the Marlins some outstanding gloves. Sitting on the status quo while waiting for Dominguez won't get it done. NO team with Baker/Paulino, Hanley, Uggla and Maybin up the middle will excel defensively. They just don't have the requisite skills.
  10. Volstad lobbing in those high sinkers again.
  11. Horrible contract, for basically a Dh who would probably be worth negative wins in the NL. If he is DFA, then the Marlins would only have to pay the balance of the minimum for the rest of this year.
  12. And that number is still too low. 54%? Really? 17-2 is great and all, but it doesn't reflect the pitcher as much as it does his run support. ERA and WHIP are better indicators of a good pitcher than W/L will ever be. Maybe the teams with the best whip should go to the World Series.
  13. I wonder what the Indians want for Carmona?
  14. Cy Young winners usually have the most wins on their own team.
  15. ESPN must have forgotten that Detroit paid almost all of Robertson's salary.
  16. Miller cannot relieve because of his lack of control If he had control, he would be an effective starter. Dominguez will be "ready" if "ready" means hitting 210. If his glove is as good as many say, I might take 210 and 18 HR at third. Those who think Dominguez will be ready also must think that Coughlan is a short term solution and will be expendable. Unless Coghlan can play center field.
  17. I doubt Miller will amount to anything but he does have the arm. He just can't control his fastball. That may come - perhaps through prayer. West could be a heckofa left handed relief specialist. But neither West nor Volstad is going to start throwing 97mph or keep baserunners from running wild.
  18. I would trade Coghlan for a solid third baseman. Or Volstad. Or West Or Paulino Or Ross Or some combination of the above. I like Coghlan a lot, who wouldn't watching that second half last year, But he is unlikely to become a big glove at third. But the Marlins REALLY need another starter, and they don't come cheap.
  19. Well, I can add up salaries and I can look up Maybin's OBP. This could be a heck of team with the addition of a solid starter (Cliff Lee is available off season) and a solid above average fielding third baseman. Combined with Uggla, Ramirez, JJ, Ricky, Anibal and all the young talent here and coming up. If Loria would go to $75M next year and $90 in years to come, the Marlins would be flying high. I hope it happens.
  20. Maybin's OBP this year is under .300. Might as well start Boni.
  21. If Maybin makes the team, it will be as the eighth hitter. I doubt Marlins will pay Paulino the $3M he will get in arbitration. Hayes and Baker will do the catching. Marlins have three number two hitters and no real leadoff hitter. Absent a trade, Coghlan will have to leadoff. The Marlins need to do some trading to get a leadoff type CFer. And a real 3B. A starting lineup of Sanchez, Uggla, Ramirez, Coghlan, Morrison, Maybin, Stanton and Baker would be pretty weak defensively. what are you talking about? maybin will lead off. he is the only true leadoff type hitter we have and coghlan is not a leadoff guy, he is perfect in the number 2 spot. i think paulino will definitely be back. We dotnt realize how good we have it with our catching platoon when healthy JJ $7.75 Ricky $6.25 Anibal $4.0 Nunez $4.0 Hensley $1.0 Sosa $1.0 and 6 at the minimum equals $27M for the pitching staff with NO new blood Hanley $11.0 Uggla $10.0 Wes $1.0 and 10 at the minimum equals $27M for the position players. How much more than $54M do you expect Loria to spend?

  23. First inning today
  24. .280 BA for Uggla now. Higher than Hanley's .279
