August 6, 201015 yr during the 2009 season by active and inactive players. He received 42% of the vote as the worst umpire in baseball.
August 6, 201015 yr Pitchers especially hate him from what I've always heard. And Balkin Bob's always had a problem with what he did last night after the game, never admitting fault. The man is an ump because he has a slight God complex, he's never wrong.
August 6, 201015 yr He loudly threatened to toss a fan the other day too. Not sure what the fan was doing but that's something you rarely see.
August 6, 201015 yr He loudly threatened to toss a fan the other day too. Not sure what the fan was doing but that's something you rarely see. Does anyone know what happened here? I meant to ask about this after it happened the other day because it seemed pretty bizarre.

It doesn't matter. An umpire doesn't have the authority to remove a paying customer from the ball park. Only ball park security can do it.
August 7, 201015 yr Rich and Tommy brought up a good point that maybe it could have been a laser pointer or something else that was directly interfering with the game.

Hell, I remember it happening at JRS a couple years back during a day game, I think it was during that infamous 400 attendance day game vs the Nats.
August 7, 201015 yr an umpire can eject a fan. Hell, I remember it happening at JRS a couple years back during a day game If the umpire took responsibility, it had to be under 9.01 c., the rest of the ejection rules refer specifically to people on the playing field: 9.01 a. The Office of the Commissioner shall appoint one or more umpires to officiate at each league championship game. The umpires shall be responsible for the conduct of the game in accordance with these official rules and for maintaining discipline and order on the playing field during the game. b. Each umpire is the representative of professional baseball, and is authorized and required to enforce all of these rules. Each umpire has authority to order a player, coach, manager or club officer or employee to do or refrain from doing anything which affects the administering of these rules, and to enforce the prescribed penalties. c. Each umpire has authority to rule on any point not specifically covered in these rules. d. Each umpire has authority to disqualify any player, coach, manager or substitute for objecting to decisions or for unsportsmanlike conduct or language, and to eject such disqualified person from the playing field. If an umpire disqualifies a player while a play is in progress, the disqualification shall not take effect until no further action is possible in that play. e. Each umpire has authority at his discretion to eject from the playing field (1) any person whose duties permit his presence on the field, such as ground crew members, ushers, photographers, newsmen, broadcasting crew members, etc., and (2) any spectator or other person not authorized to be on the playing field. But, using 901 c to justify ejecting a spectator in the stands is stretching it a bit as the only mention of spectators in the rest of the rules is a spectator who is not authorized to be on the playing field. Ballpark security probably took actual responsibility for the ejection, the stands are definitely within their purview. At the same time, there's certainly nothing that prevents them from acting on a suggestion by an ump to get rid of someone who is disrupting the game. So, yeah, whether by rule or suggestion, formally or informally an ump can make you disappear.
August 7, 201015 yr Are you guys referring to the incident on Wednesday by the Phillies bullpen? I had away bullpen seats and didn't even know what was happening either.
August 7, 201015 yr I'm not saying it wasn't a blown call and I did love how the Phillies had a play similar to it in last nights game that MLB network pointed out the ump did get it right. But when rating umps is brought up no one mentions that ususally among the top umpires in the game is Jim Joyce who realllllllllly blew that call in the Galaraga game, umps are human they're going to miss a few. Now that piece of crap Davidson misses enough for a couple of umps! Kill the bum!!!! :banghead Oh wait remember your calm place and breathe :closedeyes

August 7, 201015 yr Rich and Tommy brought up a good point that maybe it could have been a laser pointer or something else that was directly interfering with the game. You know who doesnt like laser pens...Eminem...refused to go on stage and ended up being 30+ mins late when I saw him last month cos of lasers Bit off topic in a baseball thread tho :whistle
